I like Arifuerta, but the revenge part of it kinda fell apart. He let his class off too easy IMO.

Well from the looks of it and from reading the manga I know she has done this before a lot of times without any consequences you even see her being able to shrug off the status ailment in this episode.

As someone who’s read the light novels I can say for certain that while Failure Frame is similar to Arifureta, it actually has more in common with Akame ga Kill. My synopsis will make more sense as the story develops further.
I have read the story but would you elaborate why is it similar to akame ga kill.
@@AKS299-pi5 As far as I know, he is basically a guy who wanted to be a “hero” like the rest of his peers, but he ends up realizing the ones in charge aren’t very righteous or even likeable for that matter.
Both try to kill their respective protagonists early, causing them to join or (in this case) make themselves the opposite of the powers that be becoming “the bad guys”.
That’s the best explanation I can give for major similarities.

The manga is actually pretty wild. The MC is an isekai edge lord I can get behind with. His abilities gets pretty OP when he combos all of them 😅

@@Chronosmaster002 Yeah. I've on LN 3 and the MC is pretty dark with only revenge as his main goal. Gets a slime companion which is always a win. The elf girl has her own unique story also and not just there for eye candy.

I want to make an anime called "I am not the main character in any of these series.." You follow who ends up being a secondary character involved in 4-6 very different series, and now I have this twice, one part must be taking a bus ride with a high school group, and all of a sudden, he is left by himself and falling the short drop from where his bus was. Managed to miss that nightmare.
They already did that. I forgot the title though >_
I don't remember name but there was one mangs where entire class get summoned but mc was almost outside of summoning circle so he didn't get summoned but still receives abilities.

That magic bag is very useful. If Vicious had known how useful it is for Touka she wouldn't have given it back to him.
If it spits out random stuff then it's usefulness is more situational. Not guaranteed to get what you need.
@@nebulasray1355 If Vicius hadn't given back the bag Touka would have weakened due to hunger and may have been killed. Well somehow later in the novel it starts spitting out storable food and sweets.
It feels very much like the recent “Instant Death” anime except instead of dying instantly, people die long and torturous deaths. I enjoy anime like this as a palate cleanser to all the isekai where the MC is a doormat wanting to protect smiles.
It’s funny cause when I read the light novels, failure frame was nowhere near as good as instant death. But when it comes to anime adaptations, instant death got done dirty way more than even so I’m a spider so what and now instant death feels nowhere near as good as failure frame.
LN reader here and this is one I've been waiting for. Leans more heavily into horror - you thought the blood dripping down was something, MC gets much nastier spells. Also the MC 'speaking' in a child's voice ay the end was really important to his backstory. Oh, and the Ruins of Despair where he is now is one of the nastier places in Isakei writing.

@@helical_earth To be fair the first episode cut off just as the darkness really begins. It ended just he realised what he had to do to survive (I'm avoiding spoilers for next week here). Next week will be the test, because it should build upon what we got this week.
This one is actually going to be pretty good. The MC is not Vanilla and actually has proper character development, you’ll see in the later episodes
If his abilities were so useless that Goddess wouldn't need a Dispel Bubble active, she would just be immune.
Probably more that she removes those that could potentially threaten her position early when they are weak. She's probably got high defensive and offensive abilities but is vulnerable to special attacks, status ailments or curses.

Agreed, but I think that MC have more depth from his dark childhood to a point that watchers would agree if he go on a rampage on his schoolmates.
I’ve read the light novel, and there’s similarities, but overall pretty different.
Very much looking forward to episode 2. They took their time showing us what kinda people our MC is dealing with, and giving us a hint of what lies under the person he presents himself as. I am intrigued.

Read this one. Pretty good, about a 6.5 or 7. His spells set him up as a black mage with all the debuffing spells he obtains. The POV occasionally switches over to the classmates and shows how power brings out the true nature of people.

@@gitruih nope, the whole class is summoned, school bus and all. The goddess checks the MC's abilities and waves them off as trash. Teleports him to a dungeon she sends people who don't suit her needs and expects MC to die there.

LN Reader here. It's one of my favorite Isekai.
Failure Frame is one of my favorite light novels. The story is great. The anime art quality could definitely be better.
I have really enjoyed the Light Novels. They have gotten progressively better through each volume. There are a lot of intriguing twists through the tale, so nothing goes exactly as you expect. It doesn't stay super-edgy, and sometimes it's even kinda cute and touching, but it's often dark and gritty. It's like if Arifureta didn't decide to become a comedy. Also, it's not just about the MC. Several of the students are pretty important and have their own (smaller) stories.
The LN’s are super well-written.
@@Darkxtex I haven't gone back to the first ones, but I seem to remember the first one or two being a little rough, but still entertaining. The latest several have been riveting. One thing I've enjoyed about the last several is that the characters with their crazy titles start out as what you think are stereotypes, but like Re: Zero, they actually have much more complex and nuanced personalities and are dealing with complex political situations.
Fantastic stuff. @AHBrandonReviews, hopefully we'll all be in for a treat and get several seasons of this one.
@@rampantcoyote3136 For real. The politics are super interesting and complex. The first two volumes are some of my favorites, especially the second one. We see him fighting what is practically an end boss in the second volume.
In my opinion, isekai anime with a revenge plot is my favorite. I think its satisfying feeling when the mc goes to get revenge on someone who abuses their power

- They actually did a good job with the CGI animation. It's obvious, but not jarring. It almost looks like a stylistic choice.
- He's not really an edgelord. But one of his classmates certainly is. And another guy is a definition of a narcissist.
- His backstory does play a huge part in his character and decision making.
This is very similar to Arifureta, but with no harem.
I really like the mix of CG in this, the monsters look so creepy, so as a manga reader I am excited to see how the rest of the creatures will look in the anime.
Thank you. I've read a fair bit of the LNs (through volume 7) and I've been excited for this since it was announced. However, Crunchyroll didn't have it on the lineup listed and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to watch it. Further as far as I had seen, it wasn't going to air until tomorrow. So as soon as I saw your video title, I checked Crunchy and sure enough, it's there and watched episode 1. I'm definitely in for the season (Based on the ED/op?) I'm assuming it's going to get through volume 3 this season. Here for the ride. Glad you enjoyed it.

@@gamelover2222 First, YES LN are books with words (usually occasional illustrations but less than say 20 per book max sometimes less than 5-10). As for where I get them. 1 word -- AMAZON :) They help me find new ones too.

I'ma give this one a chance, because i really liked the 'muted' color pallette throughout the episode, monster designs, intrigue on how he's going to level up, and the naked elf at the end.
Idk why this gave me both solo leveling, and cheat power vibes that we got not long ago but my god im here for this too

Only a few of the students deserve final punishment most went along because they were scared into obeying. This was helped by all of the soldiers carrying weapons around them. The 2 powerful sisters left the room before Touka was disposed in the Ruins.
I've read this one before as a manga, like ages ago and honestly it took me a while to figure out it was that same story. The art-style looked so drastically different I almost thought this was a different story at first.
Failure frame was decent revenge isekai anime for me .
Failure Frame hits just the right amount of edge for me. I literally couldn't stomach Arifureta but I am finding this much more enjoyable, especially the manga. I know this won't ever reach the peak fiction levels of Isekai Meikyuu or Dungeon Seeker, but still a solid 7/10 so far
Is it me or over the past several years we have seen isekais kinda evolved.
I read the LN, and it’s sooo good. We see complex relations between unique kingdoms. The MC gets really good character development. And the MC is not op, he uses complex, multi-step strategies to win in battles. He can never truly brute force through it.

It's basically Arifureta meets Instant Death Ability. The light novel's great, too.
I was so excited when they announced it’s gonna animated I been read 6 volumes of the manga.
This one has the potential to be very, very good.

I read this a bit a while back and I don’t remember anything and coming into it watching the first episode. This might be one of the best anime this season. I have the same opinion, I like the 3D it was creepy for the monsters, I like the cast because it makes you root for the revenge, and main characters life makes me really see what he’s gonna do. I especially wanna see the shy kid turned chunni get what he deserves. I hope main character gets every single one of the classmates who did him wrong and the goddess. Plus cherry on top, the op is pretty good too. Can’t wait to hear the full song. I’m staying for this anime and I’ll be here every week for the video

My thoughts when he landed in the dungeon/maze: Hajime 2.0 ... but their difference (for now) is Hajime just wants to go home, but Mimori just wants to eradicate those losers from that world. My guess: the only ones who probably will be spared from their doom are Ayaka and the two girls who give a damn about anything. If he were a certain healer, we already knew what fate that failure of a goddess would be awaiting though... Fear the ones who have nothing to lose in the first place.
Also I spotted a tiny dark elf in the outro, another reason to keep watching ... ( = ⩊ = )

Fun fact: in the manga just before touka was transferred to the ruins he showed the Middle finger to the Scum goddess.
He does in the episode, but it's blocked by the teleportation circle.

@@AKS299-pi5 It's actually interesting. In the Light Novel we have his PoV, so we know what he's doing. But in the Anime, sine it's blocked, it's blocked from those it was adressed. So his last word didn't pass and it's even more tragic.
Although i dont typically like 3d in anime i actually thought it was nicely done for this first episode. Hope they keep it up

And a little off topic, only mention because I wanted to watch both these two new series, and was only able to find Failure Frame at first, couldn't find where "I Parry Everything". Anyway, eventually found "I Parry Everything" on HiDive. I enjoyed the first episode of that one too. This new season of anime may be looking better than I originally thought.

The kind of struggle and abuse he has been experiencing, plus the way they cancel him, reminded me of Redo Healer, but that is something that should not be watched in public.
Parents were garbage. He was raised kindly by his Aunt and Uncle and submerged his dark heart. He became a mob character who just took ridicule because he didn't care.

When that teacher said that suicide line I had to pause and think about it a minute because I genuinely couldn't believe what I heard.
Also I was dreading the adaptation when I saw the CGI in the trailer but I gotta say it somehow actually works

"Don't drive them to suicide, and if you're gonna commit, at least wait until I'm not your teacher." What the fuck man. I just so hope it can keep it's vibe throughout mcs development. I loved those monsters too, so creepy
That line sets up expectations and realities of the whole thing nicely. In the LN's the human condition and what power does to people is explored quite a bit. This one is gonna need multiple seasons to show off some of the twists and turns the story takes and last translated LN volume ended on an insane twist :D

I thought the exact same thing as you that this wouldn’t amount to much, and had the same reaction that it’s much better than expected from the first episode. Will definitely continue to watch.
I think the 3D was fine as well. The anime community unfortunately is filled with a bunch of snobs that will always say 3D looks bad, even when it’s done well. I remember watching Ajin and recommending it to friends and they didn’t want to give it a shot because of the 3D.
This ain't Arifureta, and this guy ain't Nagumo (starts serious but gradually goes more edgy-funny as the story progresses).
This is the more "serious" of the revenge series. Yes, there's some edge there, but Touka is a good lad with a good head on his shoulders.
I like that, in this series (yes, I'm a source material reader), the likeable ones you grow to like even more, the hateable ones you can despise with a clean consciousness and enjoy seeing them get what they so richly deserve, and all fits beautifully in one good plot that doesn't stay still for a second. For none of the characters.
Definitely a must watch.
Poison is the legit best skill. I mean I've literally won impossible battles by using poison in all games across all playstyles.
And for an evil pervert paralyze is the best skill you could ever get.

At least in this one it is clearly who in the class is against him for us and the MC as well, unlike Arifurate. Though I wonder how he is going to grow OP as it doesn't seem he is going to eat monsters.
That’s the thing. He doesn’t become OP. Even his level ups are negligible. He only wins upcoming battles by using strategy and cunning, outwitting his enemies. He will always be weak, he is just smart in covering his weaknesses.
0:17 Any one who says this has bad 3D needs to go and check there eyes cuz they are clearly not working.
I was really interested in this with the first episode, and the 3D is what I hate the most, not the design but how it blends... or doesn't blend. I've watched E2 and they really maxed up the use of 3D and it's SO distracting, especially when they use his 3D body double.
I'm also not sure about the story yet, but I'm still one episode from the rule of 3, and I do love how it looks outside of the 3D usage, so I hope I get a happy surprise.
Shield Hero S1 is still one of the better ones when it comes to feeling the hate of the protagonist. The last time I hated side characters this much was when I saw "The Hunt" with Mads Mikkelsen.

It's a great story. I've read all the manga, and I'm working my way through the light novel. It is a revenge story, and starts out much like Arifureta, dropped to the bottom of a dangerous dungeon, and by the time he works his way out, is stronger than everybody else. It started kinda slow, and the MC really doesn't seem like much right now, and he definitely has some trama from the childhood abuse. I think the events of the second episode should solidify this as a good story, if they did it right. One of the great things with this world is that the demonic monsters are really different from the typical goblins and orcs you see in a fantasy world. All the other heroes will be training to get strong enough to defeat the Demon King. He's leveling up to get powerful enough to kill a goddess.
My only goal for the MC is for him to kill all of his wretched classmates "except for that one girl" and kill that wretched Goddess.
I want him to ascend from E Rank to Demon Lord status.
The topic of child abuse to me was hard to watch in which they had put so much of an emphasis on showing us the brutality of the scene and I'm now wondering did the MC kill his father and therefore he had blood on his hands and during the magic synergy test it radiated that certain colour to indicate his impurity which forfeits his rights to be a Hero. The only role that is left open is that of the Demon Lord.
I am getting Arifurieta vibes already and I hope this new show can live up to Arifurieta.
Yo that made this into a true anime cool I'm going to watch it as soon as I can find it but they had this on RUclips but it was on the manga telling the story about this dude yeah you're right that goddess is a piece of work and she gets worse.
seen these tropes and class isekai cliches too many times, but this one seems a bit more special than others. i'll play this one by ear. his skill sets are scary to say the least.

Just like folks who watch all reality tv shows, this genre is my trash tv and I'm good with that because for every 8 "shitty" isikai there are those 2 shinies.
Wishing the MC did what the lame shield hero did not and go nuts on the aholes in future episodes.
But the calm elf beauty will probably turn him into lame shield hero.
If it follows the manga and the webnovel plenty of bad people of that world will be slaughtered by him on his journey.
Trust me, it will be a massacre.
If they do a good job on portraying the goddess going forward and all the shenanigans she is up to... byatch is gonna be the highest compliment you ever said about her :D The LN is really worth it, 9 volumes in English now :)
This is another one that I'd rate as solid but not exceptional based on the source material I read. If there was one this season that I would guess to wind up with a shit adaption like New Gate did, I would have bet on this one, so I'm pretty pleased with the quality. I really loved the creepy AF monster CGI and it will be interesting to see how they handle some of his future... Can we even call what this guy does a fight? o.O

Found the Monsters on the strange and weird/creepy side in the manga. But the story is pretty good. I never really learned any of his classmate's names. Just too many.
I'm on Volume 3 of the LN and this kid is unhinged. I can't wait to see what happens when he meets up with his class again. BTW, we get a slime companion in this which makes the Isekai a million percent better. Slimes = Anime of season.
