The battery broke and there may be other kind of damage that is just not visible. I have dropped many mobile phones in water. All of them usually start after drying, but other kind of nasty problems appear. Speaker stopped working in one, and other got sensitivy problems with keys. So there is very likely some damage somewhere even tough it boots up. If the electronics isn't water proof, don't put it in water. :/
Teddy C that's because the power cord is giving the energy for the computer to work. The only thing that the battery is doing is charging (what it isn't doing in this case cause it's broken.

really lady...when someone accidentally knocks water on the laptop they immediately pick the cup up and start drying it. She let is sit for a good minute or two. Second, i'm sure if she did the "rice trick" it would have done a better job getting the water out. My 3 year old macbook air survived, 2 juice spills, 1 coffee spill and a jealous 10 year old sister dumping water on it...so yea.
XD, no offence but i wouldn't give a 3 year old any apple product to begin with, i might sound "mean" but my kids first computer will be the family desktop that sits in the living room. They won't get there own laptop until they start college.
I wasn't even allowed on the computer unless it was homework, my mother would sit in the living room with me just to make sure i was't on anything else. I think i'm being more fair then the way i was raised. At least they can still play games and watch things on it, It won't be just for homework. Besides, those computers are expensive, if they save money and buy it on there own thats on them, but i personally wouldn't buy them one until college.
It did not fail because it actually turned on if it actually failed the mac wouldn't have turned on with a charger it could easily get repaired and it works with a charger that's better than nothing

JoshJ Not quite. While today batteries are more integrated into the hardware than in traditional laptops they are still and expendable component while a screen is not.

So it's her fault people are starving? I am a consumer i want to know if this product will be durable I dont care about the hungry they can help themselves why is it people expect others to do things for them
Enrique Vera Actually in 90% of the cases they can't. They live in poverty, no jobs, no education, nothing. They don't expect the help. But it is ridiculous, she could have donated the $600+ to a charity and fed people who can't do anything to help themselves, as they have no jobs or any method of getting a job.
AmazingJessicaa Thomas Those children do not deserve $600 in free funds from a complete stranger. I don't care that they are living in poverty, I don't care that they have no jobs, I don't care that they don't have an education. 90% of the money donated goes straight into the bank accounts of the people working at the charity organization. This video is well worth its $1000 price tag as it provides more than enough entertainment and educational value. Not to mention they probably made more than enough to cover the price of the macbook. How about YOU actually help them by purchasing plane tickets to Africa?
Mo K. How will purchasing a plane ticket to Africa help? I'm pretty sure the money donated to legitimate charities is appreciated, how do they not deserve it? Who deserves the $600 more? A woman who obviously has enough money to waste, or people who can't afford to buy anything?
+shane moriarty even macs with a harddrive will survive because they have a patented SMS (sudden motion sensor) so when fast motion is detected, it parks the drive heads and starts spinning it down until it detects the movement has stopped or after the impact is over. Watching this on a ThinkPad. I'm genuinely impressed by the build quality here. I thought I'd be laughing at the competition, but it seems the MacBook is a worthy adversary in the durability department.
This is kind of an incredibly late reply to your Deviantart post, but.. FOR SCIENCE! :P Neeh, it's a shame, but it pleases the audience, therefor makes money, still a waste though Was kind of surprised it still works (eventhough the battery died) Go Mac! :D
Panasonic toughbook would do much better. :) But from the most common laptops, the Apple didn't do bad. The temperature tests aren't very difficult for any laptop. But the drop tests can do bad damage, depending of the mechanical quality of the device and does it have HDD or SSD.
it's a bad ass. I have MacBook Pro and it fell many times. and it kept working. however, I had a Dell laptop purchased it brand new. after it fell one time the screen died.
why everybody saying african children are dying from hunger and she is playing with a 1000 dollars macbook? I don't get it. because you can say the same thing for those who have pets at home. instead of buying expensive food for a dog or for a cat why don't you give it to africans? or why do you go to restaurant? you can cook the same meal for a less amount of money and pay the rest to hungry people. but the world doesn't work like this! at my uni I waste a lot of electronic circuits and chemicals for my projects but I can say okay maybe I shouldnt work on my projects cuz I can save the money paid for those materials?!
+zoala001 I've been trying really really hard to keep myself from getting into disputes on youtube as it's mostly just a waste of time but, I feel like I needed to address this one because anyone who can see the sense in the point you're trying to make should also be sensible enough to see this point of view I'm trying to convey. Yes, you have some valid points, but some of the points don't validate your case. The first sentence: obvious over exaggeration. But by now most people know that people who talk in that sort of way don't mean it, it's just a figure of speech, so let's move on. Second sentence: Based on the "everybody" mentioned in the first sentence, those "everybodies" are people of high compassion. Why would they want to take the life a loved one, regardless of the being, for a stranger? 3rd and 4th sentence: People have varying degrees to their own views and beliefs, on politics, religion and all sorts of things. Some don't care about things, while others care a little, and even others have strong views and beliefs, but only few are extremists. Even though not all are extremists people have an urge to express their beliefs if they feel it is the right thing to do. And to the last statement: It doesn't apply because it misses the bigger picture. The relatively small sacrifice required for the advancement of science and technology can progress the well being of many more. TL:DR version: ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Yes at times, it may seem the cries for the starving children seem perpetual. But these cries often come from people who are compassionate, though their compassion may come in varying levels, they all come together to make a generalized statement. and the statement seems to be: "We may not be perfect, but we try to be good. We don't always do the right things, but we try to do as we should. We may not be the most compassionate, but at least we try to be considerate. We may be insignificant, but we have the potential to create change." ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
I think the same! Also it´s important to consider tha nobody will do all this thing with and notebook and the put it on water, i´d like to see the test with a new Macbook Air.
Actually i never said something about the battery, apart for that today many companies are doing mobil phones with batteries thar are not replaceable, so... maybe someday all company do the same with computers. In my opinion is better a product that can change, but to be honest apple is doing amazing.
+Bryanna Palmer i had that to a macbook i did not even have for 4 hour and i killed it completely, repair cost would be over 5k.. it was the hardest time of the year for me xD
That wouldn't be pertaining to the specifics of the standard SSD which is what we are focusing on, but the point I'm making is when compared to an HDD the SSD is much more durable, efficient, and faster. You'd have to be an animal to even cause as much damage to it as you could being a normal user with an HDD.
Apple doesn't allow their products to boot at a certain temperatures; that are too cold for the system to handle! Temperature below that are an obvious no no!
it needs a new battery, you killed it with corrosion and water. it should pass, the screen turned off when you picked it up. what happens if you didnt? i dont know
I have the 13 inch MacBook air and I got into a car accident. My car rolled six times with my laptop in the back seat. It was COVERED in oil, had a few surface scratches, but all in all it's perfectly fine. It didn't want to charge for a week, but I found out it had some dirt in the charger port. A year and a half later, it STILL works great!
heres what happened to me: in a fit or rage i slammed the lid on my Macbook Air 13 shut and the screen went all fuzzy. Somehow that managed to crack it which was a surprise to me because i thought the aluminium body would make it sturdy. Boy was i wrong
Well I'm a Windows OS fan, but there is no hardware with specs as good as Apples that doesn't look like a cheap brick or a teenage Gamer beast(Alienware). The only descent laptop I found for Windows was Samsung Series 9, but got really disappointed by the quality of the cheap plastic. Glad I moved to Mac, just need few adjustments, but looking forward to a good quality Laptop supporting Windows: Samsung, Sony, DELL... I'm counting on you to catch up! OS: Windows 1 - 0 MAC Hardware: Windows 0 - 1 Mac
Actually I used to be a windows fan, but few months after switching to Mac and started getting used to it, I can't imagine my self going back to windows. for the software compatibility, I can find almost any Windows software to work on Mac - developers usually release two versions of the same software, one for windows and one for mac-. in a worst case scenario, I'm able to find another software that will do the same job as in Windows. Better than all, if you really think that you can't live without Windows, go ahead and install it on your mac using boot camp. check this video if interested: /watch?v=uVfRQ0YIDUI OS: Mac 10 - 0 Windows Hardware: Mac 10 - 0 Windows
albarghouthy I already use bootcamp for some games, but I'm too lazy to turn it off and on every time. And I wasn't talking about big programs, those have a Mac version almost every time. I was talking about .exe apps that only have Windows versions.
These "torture tests" are so fuckin' pointless. Most of them are completely out of the realm of possibility, and the others are just a matter of chance. This is what happens if you drop any expensive, complex item. So... don't drop your shit.
They're definitely not "out of the realm of possibility"... It's possible to spill water on it, leave in the sun too long, or drop it. And if you live in Canada, it'll definitely need to resist some pretty cold temperatures. You need to think outside the box.
***** Exposing a device to any sort of cold is a risk since it may frost slightly, and then when you enter a warm place, moisture builds up. Some people might be tired after a long day and forget their belongings in the car, then it really needs to protect itself from the climate. You're extremely narrow minded and you can't think of things outside the box, which makes you the dipshit in this case.

I really appreciate the effort to give this video realism. You know, because every now and then I forget my MacBook in the freezer.
Dude I live Canada and I'm pretty sure we have common sense to NOT leave our computers in our freezing cars.
ProN00B97 no one brings a cpu around. its a computer.
Rektnato Well now you know you can take your MacBook to the top of mount Everest and it will survive haha
Jimmy in the last test it should of slipped off the car, fell on railroad tracks as a freight train was coming
that actually happened to me last week. It got a slight scuff but I was pretty rattled.
unfortunate accident, oops i left my laptop in the freezer for 2 hours
Could of left in the car in winter
So I left mine in there too, but the battery seems to charge but the light is very dim, and green, but it still won't turn on.
+Arjen Hartink i lold
+Arjen Hartink I did left mine outdoor while it was snowing for 30ish mins
It's to see if it would survive in the snow and who knows?
'I see our screen is still on which is impressive' *screen turns off*
"I see the screen is still on", screen shuts off 1 millisecond after she says that.
+Mil Man probabaly 500 millieseconds xD
Its just the terrible panel on the mac plus it being very bright out. The contrast washes out the screen.
we might be talking about different scenes. What time are you talking about?

this was very hard to watch.

The reason it didn't survive the water test is because of the battery. The device still fully functioned it's just that the battery broke.
I does work if you plug it in
The battery broke and there may be other kind of damage that is just not visible.

+Lucas Souksavath why didn't you leave it in the freezer?
Because I was searching for recipes
It was just to simulate leaving it outside in snow or at least extremely cold weather
+Ron Weasley that's actually pretty good lol
+sally johnson Maybe it's just me but I have never forgot outside in the snow...
I’m still watching this eight years later and I used to watch it when I was little

It's not her fault...

I'll totally leave my laptop on the roof of my car....
or maybe u live in a cold area?
you should come to edmonton - canada in the winter and you well understand why they did that test
MrMdbling I now live in Calgary, AB. As you probably know it does get quite cold here too so I suppose I can give you that one.
yeah i totaly put my devises on the roof of my car xD the only thing i ever put on a car roof is a can of cola xD

I don't know if I'm right but isn't she holding the start button too long?
That's what I thought. I have to hold my laptops one for about half a second, and that seems long. I don't know. Might be different for Macs
when you hold the button for that long, its not a shut-off, its an entire reboot to the system
i watched again in 2023,, and i hope you guys doing it again with macbook air m1 at least (the last same design),,
The MacBook itself did not fail the water test. The battery did. Unfortunately for newer macs though, you can't replace the battery.
The battery is part of the Macbook.
I think its coz the water got into the gap of the loose back panel
It did not fail because it actually turned on if it actually failed the mac wouldn't have turned on with a charger it could easily get repaired and it works with a charger that's better than nothing
Zack Britton It did fail, because it turned off.
The laptop was like i've been through so much let me live already
This is testing if macs are women proof. Most things aren't.

Who's going to leave their macbook in a freezer for 2 hours? i don't actually see the relevance in this video...
My car was routinely colder than a freezer when parked outside this winter. What if I left my computer in my car overnight?
Kyle Preiksa well said...
I guess its the same as leaving your mac book outdoors in Alaska during the winter.
***** If you want to push it to the limit, push the cpu and gpu to max load, and see if its processors have throttled themselves or overheated. That would be more relevant (to most people) than leaving it in a freezer or putting it under a heat lamp for a few hours. The only realistic and relevant test they did here is to drop the thing.
Probably to simulate leaving it outside in snowy weather and climate?
How did she not figure out that it won't start until you release the power button? I am infuriated.
Every Thinkpad laptop is laughing seeing failure of this macbook.
Try doing this to your own laptop.
My Mac pro did not survived being left in the car for 8 hours on a hot nyc summer day.
Couldn't you just replace the battery?
Sadly, unlike MacBook Pros, MacBook airs have un-removeable backs meaning you can't upgrade the ram or change the battery.
+TheDerpyPudding stop talking out your ass! I have a mac book air, you CAN remove the back and replace the battery!!!!
+Andy Peterson you have to be serious mate...
Andy Peterson Im talking about the newer 2016 models they don't allow you to remove the back
i have a 2016 model and yes you can remove the back
Obviously you aren't gonna leave your mac in the freezer by accident..
But you (or at least somebody) might attempt to use it on a freezing cold day, no?
If you live in a cold climate (Canada) and leave your bag with laptop in it in the car overnight then this is a real fear.
You never know..
A buddy of mine found his phone in the fridge the day after a party. So u never know what happens when u are drunk..
I actually do live in canada. But you would have to be a REAL idiot to leave your laptop in the car.. In cold climates you are most likely in a heated place.

Why a fail? The battery is just broken put a new one in it and it's fine to use again
That's like saying 'why is a drop test a failure if the screen broke? remove the panel and replace it'. Think.
JoshJ Not quite. While today batteries are more integrated into the hardware than in traditional laptops they are still and expendable component while a screen is not.
cubixthe Not in every case, however. Screens can be replaced on most devices for a quarter of the cost of buying it new again, so to me my views are different :)
and the bottom of the laptop was pryed open so if it was not damaged i think it would have survived.

Panasonic toughbook would do much better. :)
But from the most common laptops, the Apple didn't do bad.
The temperature tests aren't very difficult for any laptop. But the drop tests can do bad damage, depending of the mechanical quality of the device and does it have HDD or SSD.
I think a thinkpad should fair pretty well in most of these tests.
heheitskenny #thinkpadmasterrace
Thinkpads have drain holes on them. Haha
Acer Preator 15 x NO WAYYYY APPLE FANBOI
why are you comparing a "gaming" laptop to a ultrabook
wait a macbook air has a fan? where do they fit it?
Under the hinge its hidden really well
Roham Razavi lol its as useless as it looks. spins at 6.5k rpm and cpu is still at 95 degrees celcius.
lol
My MBA 12' from 2017 fell into the bathtub and drowned (while I was dozed off).
Let it dry.
Works.
apparently some of the people here don't know what "torture test" meant
it's a bad ass.
I have MacBook Pro and it fell many times. and it kept working. however, I had a Dell laptop purchased it brand new. after it fell one time the screen died.
oh no! (drops 1200$ MacBook air)
TechJunkie haha
This girl is a classic. Puts it in the freezer then says, wow its cold. Then under heat lamps and wow its hot.
why everybody saying african children are dying from hunger and she is playing with a 1000 dollars macbook? I don't get it. because you can say the same thing for those who have pets at home. instead of buying expensive food for a dog or for a cat why don't you give it to africans? or why do you go to restaurant? you can cook the same meal for a less amount of money and pay the rest to hungry people. but the world doesn't work like this!
at my uni I waste a lot of electronic circuits and chemicals for my projects but I can say okay maybe I shouldnt work on my projects cuz I can save the money paid for those materials?!
It,'s a joke 😑

I've been trying really really hard to keep myself from getting into disputes on youtube as it's mostly just a waste of time but, I feel like I needed to address this one because anyone who can see the sense in the point you're trying to make should also be sensible enough to see this point of view I'm trying to convey.
TL:DR version:
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Yes at times, it may seem the cries for the starving children seem perpetual. But these cries often come from people who are compassionate, though their compassion may come in varying levels, they all come together to make a generalized statement.
and the statement seems to be:
"We may not be perfect, but we try to be good.
We don't always do the right things, but we try to do as we should.
We may not be the most compassionate, but at least we try to be considerate.
We may be insignificant, but we have the potential to create change."

YUniverseVideos this is not a english class to write an essay! sorry don't have time to read all this!
Are people really that dumb to fall for b8?
Mac is expensive, but it sure ROCKS! That's what I think makes it that valuable!
but will it blend?
memories...
2:39 that's what she said
Naa that's true. I don't like it in the pooper
lol lmao
that's what he* said
Because I'm totally gonna put a MacBook Air in the freezer.
It's simulating leaving it in a car for example.
what ever happened to these types of videos ??? i remember watching this when i was a kid
The end test failed because water got to the battery. Just replace it.
I think the same! Also it´s important to consider tha nobody will do all this thing with and notebook and the put it on water, i´d like to see the test with a new Macbook Air.
Brian Britos Simmari
Yeah, just slide it out and put in a new.. oh wait, not user replaceable.
Actually i never said something about the battery, apart for that today many companies are doing mobil phones with batteries thar are not replaceable, so... maybe someday all company do the same with computers. In my opinion is better a product that can change, but to be honest apple is doing amazing.
*****
Okay, not user replacable without voiding the warranty and risking damage to the other componenets inside.
*****
No, it would be voided by disassembling the whole macbook to get at the battery.
More like: How to desteoy your MBA.
The water happened to me 10min ago n I'm crying hysterically
+bryanna palmer And? Does your laptop still works?
+Bryanna Palmer i had that to a macbook i did not even have for 4 hour and i killed it completely, repair cost would be over 5k.. it was the hardest time of the year for me xD
+Beggar huh? The macbook was fully dead but idk what you mean
+Marianne whoeps no it doesn't
I took it to the Apple Store and they said its $700 to repair so I'm saving up to repair it
+Beggar due to water damage; 5.000 euro's repair so we bought a new one..
It passed the water test - it survived!
3:48, your hdd is probably fucked by now.
***** Good point, you do realise that they are the same thing, and a solid state can't withstand anything, for exaple, being smothered in water.
BTW I have submerged my SSD (Macbook Air) in water and it still works perfectly fine *with and without* the charger.
***** That may be specific to the MBAir, I love the fact that your motherboard will short circuit.
Do you have a HDD or a SSD?
SO MANY HUNGRY CHILDREN!
Try closing the macbook with earpods in it.... It kills the screen...
no it doesn't lmao
Marli Lester It happend to my friend. SO yes it does.
well obviously it happened for a completely irrelevant reason than that
+Sam Samuels (CapsicumSparklez) well, i have a macbok air and i ALWAYS have weadphones plugged in, been working for 2 years
still not a reason why it would break
For thinking of it… I just noticed that why doesn't the camera freeze?
Apple doesn't allow their products to boot at a certain temperatures; that are too cold for the system to handle! Temperature below that are an obvious no no!
Am I the only one who kept cringing ??
Nope
I fell't like shooting the tester.....just felt likeit
coolkysh haha I'm not alone :)
Nope I felt like I was dying inside
Diana Rodriguez exactly.....
it needs a new battery, you killed it with corrosion and water. it should pass, the screen turned off when you picked it up. what happens if you didnt? i dont know
Falling laptops make me cringe >.
MrFlippy Music My ipad 2 had a dent... sold that (because it froze forever)... ipad air... got a dent again...still good with tiny scratches.
:P
q:
WOW You have made me decide to create a Mac equal rights group. That is horrible what you are doing to the mac!
A year and a half later, it STILL works great!
watching on a macbook air 11 inch :( SO HARD TO WATCH
Why is she holding on to the power button? Just tap it...
Tapping it doesn't start it, holding it does. At least it's like that on my macbook air
heres what happened to me: in a fit or rage i slammed the lid on my Macbook Air 13 shut and the screen went all fuzzy. Somehow that managed to crack it which was a surprise to me because i thought the aluminium body would make it sturdy. Boy was i wrong
I'm I liked this because you spelled aluminium right
***** yes i know its dumb i live in canada where they pronounce it the wrong way so i say "would you like some iridum or titanum with your aluminum
Aussie Serb Aluminum*

Miss this show
After read these comments, I feel my IQ dropping by the second.
WHOS WATCHING IN 2016!
OS: Windows 1 - 0 MAC
Hardware: Windows 0 - 1 Mac
I actually like better how things work on OS X rather than Windows. If only it had a little more compatibility with apps and games...
Better than all, if you really think that you can't live without Windows, go ahead and install it on your mac using boot camp. check this video if interested: /watch?v=uVfRQ0YIDUI
OS: Mac 10 - 0 Windows
Hardware: Mac 10 - 0 Windows
albarghouthy I already use bootcamp for some games, but I'm too lazy to turn it off and on every time. And I wasn't talking about big programs, those have a Mac version almost every time. I was talking about .exe apps that only have Windows versions.
Damn, i wish that laptop were me.
I am watching this on my 3 day old '14 11 inch Air. I didn't enjoy it.
I am also watching on my 3 day old 2014 , however 13" Air and also didn't enjoy
NuttyJoeSuggz37 haha me too mines 1 week old
im watching this on a 3 year old
me to but mines a 14 inch
***** I hope you're joking.
Not a word of a lie in the mornings in winter the leather seats in my moms car frost over
