The in depth review of the Casio Wave Ceptor watch in this video is amongst if not the very best most informative detailed review of any product i have ever seen on video before now and yes i have the black resin strap version of it. My only main concern and serious drawback to the watch itself is the quality of the resin strap which after one or two years becomes brittle and uncomfortable to wear, but other than that this is a feature rich super accurate time piece at pocket money prices.
I have this watch, which I rediscovered in the drawer after going wrong a couple of years ago, and managed to get it going again using your tutorial. Thank you.
Hi Greg, I am about 2 yrs adrift from your tutorial, but your video was more useful than the guide which came with the Casio Wave Ceptor watch. Thank you so much. 👍🍺🇬🇧
Hi Greg, Thank you for this review/tutorial. I just got this model watch and the first thing I'm doing with it is watching this video (again) to familiarize myself and get it all sorted out the way I want it. Have enjoyed watching your other videos too, always relaxing. Keep up the good work. Thanks again, -Doug.
Thank you very much for the very comprehensive tutorial. I have been using Casio watches for many decades but I never knew the terminologies or all the functions they had. Thums up and subscribed. Best of luck, Sir!

Great video, thanks! Somewhere on youtube, can't remember the guy's name is a good video on reception. He is on the edge of the German signal and discovered by chance that a long tubular metal object acts as a good antennae for the watch. He leaves the watch wrapped around his bike cross bar, weight lifting bar, pullup bar etc and they work every time where usually that spot in his house is a dead zone.

I'm here in Inglewood CA and will test it out on auto to see if it syncs. I love your channel and really dig your Casio collection. I'll let you know how it goes ✌🏽
Great review as usual! I have WV-58A watches that I have been using since 2017. Living in Denver makes the reception easy. For a few days now, I am not able to receive the correct time even in manual mode. The display shows all segments properly, so I don't think it's a battery issue. Any suggestion?
Had the wv-58a for 10+ years, only changed the battery once. I've taken it swimming with no issues. I just wish it was 100m wr to be on the safe side. Otherwise, perfect watch and super affordable. Might check out the SS version too. Looks good.
I'm a huge casio fan have quite the vintage collection myself but I must say that I enjoy taking all my watches out once a month and setting all of them myself one by one which is why I dont own any multi bands or wave ceptors but to each his own just as long as u are a casio fan I'm down with it
Absolutely wonderful video Greg! I've worn the metal version of this watch for, well, I think decades. I'm on my 4th or 5th one now. They are attractive and functional. Anyway, you really know your watches. After owning these for so long, I thought I pretty much knew everything about them. But, you showed me some stuff I didn't know--more than I want to admit if the truth be told. I don't know why you say this is an "entry" level watch and imply that it is for people on a budget. I probably could afford any watch if I really wanted to, but I choose this one because of the massive functionality. What would you recommend for someone who wanted to step up beyond "entry level"? I don't think I found any watch at any price that combined the attractiveness durability and functionality of this watch, but I'm willing to be proven wrong. As for others, I would (obviously) highly recommend this watch. I look forward to some of your videos of other topics. Thanks again for a GREAT video! Oh--one more question, and comment. Comment first: I found adjusting the wristband to be an absolute bear with normal household tools. Things that would fit into the little hole weren't strong enough to push out the pin (I broke a few jeweler's screwdrivers, and ruined several other tools trying) and things that would probably push the pin/plate out were to big to get into that hole! I eventually gave up and just swapped out bands from my old watch, which had pins that came out easier. The question is: What is that tool you used, and where can I get one. 🙂
I just bought the WV-58R for my 9yr old son and it's a great 1st casio watch for him. He won't have to worried about setting the time due to the waveceptor mode. The luminescent color on the watch it's orange instead of blue-green indigo. Was disappointed my self with this but my son likes it and that's what matter. Do you know what year casio changed the luminescent from indigo to orange? On this watch?
I've had my Casio WV58A-1AV for 6 years and see no reason to call it an "entry level" watch unless that's your term for one costing less than $50. It is still running fine on the original "battery," which I believe (from viewing other videos here) to be a CR1620 Lithium cell.
Great presentation! However, what does the 3-segmented circle do on the WVM60? (I have the WV58DA as well as the Casio metal Atomic Pathfinder with compass/altimeter as a backup to the aircraft altimeter when flying non-pressurized helicopters)
I have the WV-58U module 3053 very similar to the one on the left. It often resets the date and time to 1.1. 2005 1200. It appears to be something to do with auto receive so I leave it on manual receive and just press the bottom right button to manual receive.
I read somewhere that the resetting issue is due to bad contact with the battery. This usually occurs after you have changed the battery and the metal contact clip has been bent away from the battery because the metal is not very 'springy' and has been deformed. Just go in and bend the clip so it makes strong spring contact and it should be fixed.
I've had this problem, too. I hate having to reset the watch when it happens. I always thought it was the battery giving out, and usually swapped out the battery or bought a new watch if the plastic face was too scratched up.
Did Casio change the module? I received my WV58DA ("WV58R" on case back) 06-10-24. You say it is a single band. Under the reception icon, mine says "Multiband 5". The case back also says "Multiband" in a much larger font. I'm very happy with mine.
The radio time signal from transmitters is controlled from the same source as Internet time or time signal in gsm network. I think waveceptors and smartphones must have same accuracy.
@@matof1428 The difference is that the watches get the time in lightspeed while smartphones communicate over network packages, that are routed through a complex network of devices, losing time on every station. Rugby is about as far from our coastline as you can get but our time signal transmitter has been moved to the north of England now.

when I go to the get atomic mode it stays there for a short while the displays ERR.. is this normal. I am located in the big bend section of Texas. Odessa Midland area
The ERR is short for “error”. That would normally mean there’s something causing reception problems. If you tap the lower, right button (without holding it down) it should tell you the last time that atomic time reception was successful. If it was just a few days ago then you’re probably okay. If it’s been a long time then you might want to experiment with ways to improve reception. The best thing is to leave it near a window overnight (and pick a window closest to Colorado) and away from anything electronic. If that doesn’t work then there are other things you could try.

The only time I had to return a Casio watch was when I bought a brand new Wave Ceptor from Japan and it would ALWAYS have a reception error. I tried everything I could for several days. When I pressed the button to find out when it was last able to set itself there was just “- - - -“ on the display, meaning it never even set itself one time before I got it. I thought about keeping the watch since everything else worked and it was a good-looking watch, but I decided to return it because I knew that a Wave Ceptor that never sets itself would drive me nuts. A little while later I bought another one just like it, except it DOES work.
I have this wave ceptor watch. The one on the left at the beginning of the video, with the resin band strap. But I have just ONE question. Now, before I've decided to ask in the comment section, I want to let you know that I saw the entire video and read through the manual thoroughly that the watch came with and STILL did not find the answer to this one question I have. Okay.........let's say I have my "home" time set to CHI because.........well that's the time zone I live in. Okay........now, let's say that I have my "world time" set to TPE (you see it when the mode button is pressed first) and, let's just say that one day I decide to travel to THAT time zone. .........and, here's the question: What button pressing procedure do I perform so that, AFTER pressing the mode button and seeing the world time TPE, I can immediately set my home time to THAT particular time zone where it would then show the day, date, etc just like it did when it was still set on my previous home time WITHOUT having to manually set the time of that new time zone that I'm visiting?? 🤔 I know it's kind of difficult to ask in plain words and easier if I could just show you in person. But I can't do that. So, If if anyone out there can understand exactly what I'm asking, please let me know of a possible solution. If you can't quite understand what I'm asking, please let me know where I'm losing you and I'll try to re phrase my asking method. Thanks.
This watch is rated at 5 Bar or 50 Meter water resistance. You should be fine swimming but they don’t recommend deep swimming like snorkeling. Personally, I have never had trouble swimming with these Casio watches. But I don’t get any deeper than swimming pool depth. Here’s Casio’s official explanation of water resistance claims... www.casio-intl.com/asia/en/wat/water_resistance/
Here’s a story (including a RUclips video link) about what happens when someone tests a G-Shock at many times beyond the rated water resistance. The key is that, within their test, the watch which was rated for 200 meters appeared to be perfectly fine at 400 meters. But then they kept going until it actually sustained damage. www.g-central.com/how-waterproof-is-a-g-shock-extreme-water-resistance-test/
This watch has a Demo mode. From the normal, timekeeping mode press and hold the light button and also the bottom, right button. After about 3 seconds it goes into demo mode, which alternates between the home time and world time display. This will also disable the atomic time receiver. This will save power. The watches are supposed to be in this mode when they are shipped and when they are on display at stores.
This Wave Ceptor watch looks to be a waste of money gimmick, allthough it is functional, it's pretty much useless where I live in Melbourne, Australia, it's a bizarre feature to include in a cheap watch, much better to set the time manually like we've always done, most people have a mobile phone they can get the accurate current time from.
It works very well where I live. Wave Ceptor technology is definitely not a gimmick. But I understand the frustration that it doesn't work everywhere in the world.
@@GoodTimekeeper When the time is set manually, it goes wrong later. Too many items to navigate through. Cumbersome. Difficulty getting an automatic time-set.
That’s not my experience with this model. Do you mind if I try to troubleshoot it with you? First, where are you and what time zone is the watch set to? When it sets itself to the wrong time, how far off is it?
This video is better than a manual, love it thank you.

Okay........now, let's say that I have my "world time" set to TPE (you see it when the mode button is pressed first) and, let's just say that one day I decide to travel to THAT time zone.
.........and, here's the question:
What button pressing procedure do I perform so that, AFTER pressing the mode button and seeing the world time TPE, I can immediately set my home time to THAT particular time zone where it would then show the day, date, etc just like it did when it was still set on my previous home time WITHOUT having to manually set the time of that new time zone that I'm visiting?? 🤔
I know it's kind of difficult to ask in plain words and easier if I could just show you in person. But I can't do that.
So, If if anyone out there can understand exactly what I'm asking, please let me know of a possible solution.
If you can't quite understand what I'm asking, please let me know where I'm losing you and I'll try to re phrase my asking method. Thanks.
is this watch really WR like i can swim with this watch.. i just got one and im not sure
Bottom line: I have never worried about it and there’s never been a problem.
@@GoodTimekeeper thank you very much
Here’s a story (including a RUclips video link) about what happens when someone tests a G-Shock at many times beyond the rated water resistance. The key is that, within their test, the watch which was rated for 200 meters appeared to be perfectly fine at 400 meters. But then they kept going until it actually sustained damage. www.g-central.com/how-waterproof-is-a-g-shock-extreme-water-resistance-test/
Thank you
Cool 😎
Power save mode???
This watch does now have a power save mode.
This is hands down the best watch u can buy.
uhh definitely NO

This Wave Ceptor watch looks to be a waste of money gimmick, allthough it is functional, it's pretty much useless where I live in Melbourne, Australia, it's a bizarre feature to include in a cheap watch, much better to set the time manually like we've always done, most people have a mobile phone they can get the accurate current time from.
It works very well where I live. Wave Ceptor technology is definitely not a gimmick. But I understand the frustration that it doesn't work everywhere in the world.
This watch is garbage. Not usable.
Any reason in particular for that conclusion?
@@GoodTimekeeper
When the time is set manually, it goes wrong later.
Can the bracelet be swapped for another strap such as nylon? Are the lugs straight and standard like most other watches?
Yes, indeed! I actually switched out the original strap with an 18 mm. black leather Rolex strap with no problem.
