All I can say is BEST INTERVIEW EVER! Honestly I really enjoy how Stephen got right down to the details and isn’t even trying to sell us a course?! I hope you do more interviews with this guy! He’s incredible
😳 Insane!! Really great interview. And Ryan, thank you so much for being such a patient and gracious interviewer and allowing Stephen to just speak freely. Such a valuable gem of an interview.
I don't understand how this video doesn't have more likes!!! I just watched for the 3rd time and STILL got more value!!! I'm getting through the research and getting close to design. I am so grateful for you both! May everything you give so generously come back to you 100 fold!!!
Because the guy in the video hasn't proven he's a real successful Etsy shop owner. Dude just says he is and posts some cropped generic screenshot of his "profits". No sane person would believe a guy who makes such big claims with no proof.
Mate this video was invaluable! After watching I immediately started researching, paid for Alura - put in 7000+ lines of data into excel and revealed so many things that I never would've discovered otherwise. Thanks Stephen, amazing breakdown!
Thanks so much Stephen! You don't know how much of a breath of fresh air it was to have just a genuinely kind person wanting to share his knowledge without wanting anything in return other than others to have success and change lives. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
I’m brand new to etsy and pod. I’ve watched tons of videos and etc but this one is just fire! I’m confused about how he does his research when he was talking about incorporating excel and etc. I know the tools you guys were talking about, but got lost when it came to excel columns and he said there’s different videos on RUclips that explain it but idk what to type in to even try to find it. Lol. I watched your Etsy series #14 that you linked but that didn’t go into what Stephen was talking about. I hope this makes sense and ty so much for sharing all of this information with us. Super helpful and appreciated.
Thanks! When you scrape a store and export the results, there will be columns of data with titles at the top. One column will be 'monthly sales' I believe.
If you're brand new I'd just like to make a quick recommendation to start slow, use "training wheels" begin by just creating a few listings, then improve their quality gradually, then later on try implementing Stephens strategy 🙂
Corporate Business Analyst here. Stephen is talking about copy pasting the store data into excel. And then using the " sort and filter " that will lot you filter through the data and see things alphabetically, by type, sales, etc...
@@JettRSmith Stephen is starting a RUclips now to help everyone 👍 But for what it's worth it's still pretty advanced stuff like skipping straight to implementing his strategies is probably not a thing that most people should do, always good to go through a linear process and keep refining and working towards the end goal I think But yeah once his channel is out I will update the link in this video 🙂
Wow! So much value in this video. I've listened 3 times, drilling the steps in my brain. Congrats Stephen for your success! I hope to reach your status in the near future. And thank you Ryan for bringing Stephen on! 🙏💛🌞🥳
I don't think people realize how this interview is straight GOLD!!! start taking notes and do what he says exactly before he starts charging for this information!
Bananas! So strategic. Love hearing his business strategies. So many people start on Etsy and they just start making products and they don't do this level of research or understand there are even strategies like this to implement to begin with. I'm curious what he thinks about duplicate listings. So if these listings are that optimized I'm assuming he doesn't do any duplicate listings to test them with different mocks as the thumbnail? Hopefully you can have him come back on for more because I'm sure there's more he can talk about. Amazing guest thanks for this!!
Thanks for watching, great question for him, I have heard of some other sellers trying that before. I personally only do that if I'm early to a big trend, but it's not a bad idea
Thank you Ryan and Stephen! This is the best information ever! Most others give the same basic advice, but I love Stephen’s tip to really breaking it down and really studying the other shops. As they say “success leaves clues”. I’m going to use these tips this upcoming week and see how that helps my research!
Stephen your research method sounds outstanding! Thank you for sharing this with us. I hope I can come back here and update my comment to say “it worked for me too”!
Thanks for watching! he did create an Instagram on my recommendation 😅 I am also anti-social media but it does help to be able to connect with people when you need to
Love the methodical approach here! Any tips on finding good etsy stores to mirror? I'm using the trending and best selling lists on Alura, but the most recent shops on the list only go to 2020 and there aren't many. Looking for other shops that use POD.
I wanna be like you Stephen, I am working my butt off trying and i won't give up. I ran a htv outta my home for almost 3 years and converted to this because the cost was killing me. No words truer ever spoken than : your family and friends won't make you rich" I'm living by that, I actually shut my fb down yesterday to focus on just my business, Thank you both your valuable knowledge-April
Yes wise words! Also I definitely love that you shut down some social media. The "doomscrolling through never-ending feeds" isn't making anyone better. Good luck in pursuing your business goals 💪
I really like this guy. I knew there was a way to do this that was straightforward. So helpful and a process that I will implement. Thank you, Stephen Chin.
🤯 Unbelievable information exactly what I was looking for. I worked in the fashion industry for years, so I know how to design. The only thing I didn’t have a handle on, was how to make my listings top-notch.❤
Thank you both - great advice Stephen! I understood everything and it all makes sense apart from one point which I didn't completely follow. Please can I ask - if you are basing your 5 listing and 5 design attributes based on the data you have pulled - wouldn't the top listing of the 10k have 5/5 on both counts? In other words - if that top listing only had 3/5 for listing attributes for example, how did you come up with what those 5 attributes are (and be confident that they are correct) if you are not basing it on the market research? Hope this makes sense. I've been a bit disillusioned feeling that I'm just stabbing in the dark to find designs people might want (using Erank and Insight Factory for "low competition" niches) but this feels do-able and it's based on fact. Thank you so much.
Amazing interview! Thanks, Ryan! I have an Etsy shop and I'm going to follow these steps and apply what I learn from the competitor analysis this week. I'm planning to report the results back here in a few days✌ Thank you, Stephen, for the well-detailed tips! You've shared a lot of value and I wish you a lot of success in life!✌
This interview is excellent, quite mind opening. Would this strategy and data still work when implementing on Amazon Merch, Teepublic, etc? As for using Etsy ads immediately when launching a product, I wonder how long he keeps the ads running.... Thank you!
I really want to have lots of different niches in my store but I keep hearing diff things about doing that or others say to do a diff store for each niche… any thoughts??
Hi Stephen. Instead of taking all of the listings from each of our Top 10 shops only, why not just take the top items in that specific niche from the entire Etsy listings database? Why stick with just 10 shops when you can focus on top listings in general, in your specific niche and product that you want to sell? For instance, the top "mom t-shirts" that you mentioned.
I’ve had an etsy shop for 10 years, 2500 sales. Now I want to try something different - print on demand. Should I start a new shop for print on demand? Or would it be better to build up my current shop?
I agree with Ryan. Using the same shop, you can leverage the reviews. The only downside is if someone buys a POD product and one of your self-fulfilled products, you pay shipping twice.
this is a fantastic interview, Ryan!! Stephen is so clear & concise in how he approaches the market, that I've also watched this video multiple times and gain great insight each time! Books, podcasts, whatever! :) Thanks again to both of you! PS: As a Canadian, I would LOVE to see you bring on more Canadian Etsy POD sellers too! :)
