    I have the same problem with my 97 Nissan pickup. Definitely a design issue. I have replaced that same bolt a number of times. I keep extras on hand. Not much you can do to fix that.

      I'm approaching 300k miles on mine. I really haven't had many problems with her. Plenty people wanting to buy these now; you'll have no trouble selling yours.

      Hope you are right here in Florida you find them for sale for $2,200 in good condition but it takes a long time to sell, I tried last year I am the second owner 136k and after six months I took it out of Offerup no one contact at $2,900 🤣😅😂😅 I have own 1967 Datsun pickup and many other small asian cars and trucks including 1974 Ford/ Mazda and by far this is to me not a friendly to work vehicle at all, timing chain will always brake the guide and down to oil pan you find it, very bad in gas and the emissions system is from hell but it is what it is till I get rid of it hope yours will give you another 300k God bless....

    Replace bracket like u/audubon5425 said. Obviously something isn't lining up or the bracket has forgiven itself enough for it's lifetime as steel does not contract. Most likely that carbon steel bracket has seen it's days as a tension holder and just needs a new replacement. Stress isn't much on new steel but when it's gets old weak and weathered, you just gotta replace it. Putting in a stronger bolt just binds the bolt. Steel stretches and does not contract back to it's original size when it comes to this magnitude. Adding a stronger bolt just weakens the bracket even further.

    To tighten that belt, do you just adjust that one bolt? Or do you have to loose the other bolts (back of alternator and where else?)

    • @audubon5425
      @audubon5425  3 года назад

      Yes, you have to loosen the pivot bolt

    Weird to see the rad hoze splice be on every one of those trucks. Was on mine till I replaced the hozes. Shoulda saved the splice. It stopes the hoze from rubing on the alternator bracket and getting a pin hole leak. Shorts out the alternator

    Looks like it may have been over tightened at some point before you bought it. or it's just a weak point in the design.

      one thing I've noticed is Gates makes two belts specifically for the truck, where Dayco and Goodyear use a standard size. I'd seek out the Gates belts.

      JUST GET A SMALLER BELT! I did this myself, after having realized there was absolutely no way the bolts were going to grow a half inch by themselves
      I'm a nurse practitioner, not a mechanic and I find it impartible to believe that I'm the only one (GIRL) to think of this extremely easy fix...?
      just saying :)

    Off subject question.Why does nissan have the lower water hose in two sections? I just put a new radiator on the same truck and wanted to replace the hoses .I replaced the top one but want to find out why the original lower hose is two sections first.The new hose i bought is one piece and should work .thanks if you know.

      I'm not sure why but mine was the same way. I'd guess it had something to do with the production line. I used a one-piece replacement with no issues.

    It's the belt. All the belts need to be a v-belt. The ones you have I had too. They stretched out

    I can't get mine to release tension so I can take belt off. Do you take the bolt all the way out?

    • @audubon5425
      @audubon5425  8 лет назад

      make sure you've loosened the pivot bolt also.

    • @chadharris3779
      @chadharris3779 8 лет назад

      +audubon5425 so I only loosen those bolts? Don't take them out right?

    • @audubon5425
      @audubon5425  8 лет назад

      +CHAD Harris Correct. The lower pivot bolt may have a nut on the backside...can't remember. But yeah, just loosen them.
