No shade on Emelia Clark, but I think she was likely originally cast, for Her looks. Tamsin is also gorgeous, but Emilia had this youthful look to her, which was great for the character, as it lent to the growth of the character, too, IMO. I have heard people say she's not the best actor, but I've only seen her in GoT, and I thought she did a great job with the role.

It's fascinating to me that every single scrap of a mention of GoT is plagued with commenters like this. MOVE. ON. D&D had their share of fuck ups but it was not just two people responsible for the decline of the series. D&D are not the reason there is war, cancer, and famine in the world. Just pretend the last two seasons are not canon or something. Maybe go outside and touch the grass. Watch Hot D. Do anything besides saying the same thing over and over for nigh on 5 - repeat: FIVE - years.
As someone who has filmed at Doune. It was a shame that Scotland didn't get some of the benefits of a major production filmed here. But it did give our cousins over the Irish sea a chance to shine too. We got Outlander later. 😁
Another detail in the pilot that was change is that Tyrion has two different coloured eyes like in the books and lighter hair which can be seen in the first scene of Tyrion in the final pilot. Which in the next scene completely changes.
In the books Danaerys has to wear a hat that looks like rabbit ears in order to gain acceptance as queen by the people of Mereen that was completely left out that would have been funny to see
The Daenerys scenes were filmed in Malta, not Marooco. I wisited Malta a few years ago and so many locals were showing me photos of them with the cast.
Just some constructive criticism: As a longtime ASOIAF fan, hearing you misprounance character names, relationships, and actor/actresses names is like nails on a chalk board. For example: Lord Rickard Stark and Brandon Stark are Eddard Starks father and brother respectfully, they are not his two brothers. And Caitlin Stark is pronounced Cat-lynn not Kate-Lynn. Robert Baratheon was played by Mark Addy not Addley and the name of the actress who played Cercei Lannister is Lena Headey (Heedee) not Head-ee. Other than that some really good stuff here! Cheers!
The lighting for the Battle of Winterfell was perfect. It was supposed to be dark and confusing. It was symbolic of the coming doom of men. It also evoked a bleak winter night, which I appreciated having been born and raised in them. That said, some better efforts could have been put into framing the shots more strategically for viewers and to differentiate the mass of bodies.
As soon as D & D were given free rein i.e. ~season 5 onwards the cracks started to show. I think the downfall started at the end of season 5 and by mid-season 6 they'd ruined 50% if not more of the main characters (john snow, Tyrion, Brienne, Arya, Little finger etc etc etc.). I don't think it was a 'learning experience' I suspect it just allowed HBO and GRRM to know that D & D are great at spectacle but crap on character development, plot, lighting (lol) etc. GRRM is partly to blame as well, once D & D ran out of books, they had obviously been given a skeleton of the major plotpoints because that's literally all you had from there on in - major plotpoints. There was zero buildup, zero character archs, zero continuity, GRRM has even said he envisioned it going on for 12+ seasons and I'm sure HBO would have been on board, it's a shame D & D didn't step aside if their heart wasn't in it. Their legacy will always be the fact that they ruined potentially the greatest TV show of all time.
I picked out the scenes right away when my wife made me watch the first episode. Ned and Benjns hair is so much shorter. And I said to her what did they forget to put there wigs on for these scenes🤣. After that episode I was hooked. I went out and bought all the books. I literally was reading the first book when the Red wedding episode aired. And i saw the shows version before I read it. It blew me away. And spoiled it for me at the same time.
The non-consensual wedding night scene was crazy difficult to watch, but it makes sense in the story. What comes across as really weird was how she fell in love with him after. And so quickly.
@@mariaf3943 I see what you’re saying. The two things conflict. I guess I worded what I typed in a weird way. As far as what the TV show did with the story, the wedding night seems realistic. Leaving the books aside, her being forced to marry this complete stranger whose culture is that the men just take the women, he wants her sexually and she didn’t consent to anything so far, unfortunately, a non-consensual situation is very likely and happened. Then there was another one depicted, too. The whole thing is a mess because of the show and books handling that situation so differently. I hope that made sense.
Game Of Thrones ended in S6! Seasons 7 & 8 were an abomination to what the show was beforehand. Even tho it changed along in S5, it was still good. So I’m just waiting for the TWOW and ADOS to conclude this story. But I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting…….😫
The tone of the Jaime and Cersei scene was changed because it would have made no sense for the setting, not the characters. Why would they be hiding away in the tower to begin with? They decided to go out for a stroll and climb up there and then Jaime randomly forces himself on her? No, they obviously went looking for a place where they wouldn't get caught.
With a few exceptions (*cough, cough* final season *cough*) GoT is a truly great experience. I don’t think that the “trial shoot” of the pilot will bring anything of benefit (except maybe George in the hat), so I can live without this one. Maybe some clever editing could use some more of the material in some future extended versions of some episodes, but I do not doubt that it was a good choice to scrap it. To still move ahead with the show after 90% having had to be scrapped is amazing and probably one of the greatest deeds a production company has done for the fantasy genre since that time Peter Jackson was allowed to make three films…
Such a mistake to scrap the giant headdress of G.R.R Martin. It adds to the medieval otherworldly style, like Olenna's wimple, especially at a time when rich people showed their wealth through elaborate fabric.

towards the end you say that season 8 was rushed, which I agree 200% but it is disgusting to realize that we even had to wait 2 years for a rushed finale....
I have it on rerun for years now, looking deeply into the riddles that make this show so great. You must watch all 8 seasons for the complete story. "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention". And the fact that S8 ran out of money was the problem all along. From the beginning it was too expensive, yet deemed of such excellence that they put every penny they could into it. Every scene, every episode, every season follows the same equation, a comet splits in 2 passing through the sun on return orbit, with one impacting a small moon eclipsing the sun, utterly destroying it and causing it to fall to Planetos in mountain, boulder, stone, dagger, shards and needle sized, massively toxic meteorites. Chaos reigns in the heavens and on Planetos. This is a classic riddle and it has gone so far over most folks head that it ought to enjoy a long life of critique that continues to entirely miss the point, while constantly pulling new viewers and readers to itself, due it's extreme excellence of construction. And did anyone think perhaps the writer of this podcast might be handicapped and using something to make this video that writes what he says for him, thereby the massive spelling errors? What he has to say is valid. No need to point out his flaws. *munching popcorn* some folks have the most amazing comments to make about ASOIAF and GOT/HBO.

I think its a lost cause to hope to watch the original pilot, the same way its hopeless that we will ever see the first cut of Star War before it was heavily reedited by Lucas.
D&D may have ruined the show in the latter half but you still have to give them credit for doing an amazing adapting the books, I don't think just any director could have done it. They sucked at making their own unique content but were really good at adapting something that already exists.
Nikolaj is Niko-LIE not Niko-lodge. “One of the great cultural zeitgeists of the decade” doesn’t make any sense. The zeitgeist is everything in a particular culture. It's singular.
You can state an item or thing that makes up the zeitgeist. Like the 80's was money, consumerism and music which helped to create the zeitgeist for that decade; over indulgence and transformation. Oh, I get it, maybe it's just his actually wording you're opposed to? He could've said, This is a part of the zeitgeist of that decade or something of that nature?
What you’re missing is they gave two unknown screenwriters the go ahead only because George Martin greenlighted their use of his IP which other studios tried to obtain….
GRRM had a decade's heads up to finish the books, but he didn't. He essentially cheated D&D and audience and channels like these simply put all the blame on D&D essentially finishing their careers. I think GRRM gave the rights to D&D coz they were young and enthusiastic and he knew he could play them like a fiddle. D&D did a marvelous job till they had the books to fall back on. What went wrong in the last 2 seasons was there were no books and they had to write themselves, something everyone knew was not their foray. And what did GRRM did? He didn't finish the books and got busy making the 1000 spinoffs and writing novellas instead. GRRM is a great writer and a truly despicable human. He even sounds like a weasel.

Apparently there were flashbacks in the original pilot. I reckon they were Roberts rebellion and the mad king killing ned dad and brother
He got those two idiots because he didn't want producers to butcher his work. The irony...
Honestly, one of the worst technical trends are too dark scenes. I'd much rather have excesive light than insuficient, if they can't nail it.
I’m happy that we got GoT! Thanks George! ❤
This is the only thing I want in my life is to see the pilot.
4:03 ned looks so good here
They should have kept the original script for Catelyn Stark. Unfortunately, they changed it to portray her as a kind woman.
I really hope we get a redo of the last 2 season from GOT….its the LEAST they could do
Maybe if instead of asking "who's John's mother"? He should have asked "do you promise to keep the quality and not fuck up the last 2 seasons"! And THEY could've asked "Are you definitely going to finish the story".... I loved this show but can never watch it again because of one of the most illogical, disappointing finale in TV history
The two creators threatening jokingly that they are gonna release the pilot is hillarious! 😂
I will never forgive D&D for the last two seasons.
@@Whiteboykun or… you could just scroll on, and keep your opinions about other peoples posts to yourself.

As someone who has filmed at Doune. It was a shame that Scotland didn't get some of the benefits of a major production filmed here. But it did give our cousins over the Irish sea a chance to shine too. We got Outlander later. 😁
They need to release it 😤
Another detail in the pilot that was change is that Tyrion has two different coloured eyes like in the books and lighter hair which can be seen in the first scene of Tyrion in the final pilot. Which in the next scene completely changes.
The silly hats woulda been something to see, huh?
Yeah
In the books Danaerys has to wear a hat that looks like rabbit ears in order to gain acceptance as queen by the people of Mereen that was completely left out that would have been funny to see
The Daenerys scenes were filmed in Malta, not Marooco. I wisited Malta a few years ago and so many locals were showing me photos of them with the cast.
I was right the flashbacks were the mad king killing neds bro and dad
Just some constructive criticism:
As a longtime ASOIAF fan, hearing you misprounance character names, relationships, and actor/actresses names is like nails on a chalk board.
Cheers!
Tell me youve never watched Game of Thrones without telling me.
In the book it plays out consensually? What book did you read?
You seriously referred to Robert Baratheon, as “John Baratheon”?
Charles Boyle would love this guy. "NEEkolazh."
She falls in love with him in the books so they had to but in that case it doesn’t really make sense in the show that it was non consensual
@@mariaf3943
I see what you’re saying.
@@foley15136 ah okaythat makes a lot of sense actually

Mystery actor looks like Triple H.
Do Billy the kid lost movies and lost movies that no one talks abouts
With a few exceptions (*cough, cough* final season *cough*) GoT is a truly great experience. I don’t think that the “trial shoot” of the pilot will bring anything of benefit (except maybe George in the hat), so I can live without this one. Maybe some clever editing could use some more of the material in some future extended versions of some episodes, but I do not doubt that it was a good choice to scrap it. To still move ahead with the show after 90% having had to be scrapped is amazing and probably one of the greatest deeds a production company has done for the fantasy genre since that time Peter Jackson was allowed to make three films…
the friendly battle between bran and tommen would have been great
Loved the beauty and the beast
14:21 Man, you even botched BRAN… like Raisin BRAN crunch. How does this get switched to BRON? 😂
It's funny because they cut storylines and characters from day 1 on Game of Thrones.
Goes well with the lost ending.
So in a sense we did get some polite footage after all, cool
Lena Headey not head-L-ey
Such a mistake to scrap the giant headdress of G.R.R Martin. It adds to the medieval otherworldly style, like Olenna's wimple, especially at a time when rich people showed their wealth through elaborate fabric.

People hate D&D and act as if they have no talent. They gave us this show. The ending was rushed - but it doesn’t take away from the greatest part of the show. Seriously people by act like they should be exiled…it is just a tv show at the end of the day.
0:35What do you mean? Have you even ever read the script for Doorways? That would have been a HECK of a show. Wish someone would look into actually DOING it! 🤓😎✌🏼
it's easy to get second chances when you got family connections with strings to pull.
Can't wait till the day when I can put the GoT ending books into AI and it would generate a proper season 8 for me
Rickard wasn't Ned's brother . He was his father.
I didn’t realize any of the original was saved into the release.
towards the end you say that season 8 was rushed, which I agree 200% but it is disgusting to realize that we even had to wait 2 years for a rushed finale....
Yikes, take a breath sue
I breathe just fine brother, and choose what I love. I'd give anything to talk to GRR Martin for a while. He's written the best story I've ever read and I'm a heavy reader all my life. You do you. I'm fine ;D @@BlowGlass
It wasn't a budget issue, HBO gave them a blank check, but d and d were done. Idk where you got most of your information but it's mostly blatantly wrong.
Yes in the beginning a blank check. In Season 8 they were out of money. Please look it up instead of impuning my integrity@@arielsclamshellbra
@@arielsclamshellbra I doubt it ariel. I doubt you know any more or less than I. I do know they ran out of money at the end and couldn't do one more thing and that was straight from D&D. D&D's new project has so many ex producers with big $$ it shouldn't have that problem. Bigger problem is they are not great at writing dialogue, but 3 Body Problem is another huge undertaking so I hope it goes well for them. It will make or break them now.
If this is AI narration (and going by the mispronounced character names), it's impressive.
They had the chance to make the greatest tv series of all time and they threw it all away because of rushing . Such a shame

“One of the great cultural zeitgeists of the decade” doesn’t make any sense. The zeitgeist is everything in a particular culture. It's singular.
Everything in a particular culture is made up of "things" that as a whole create the zeitgeist.

Alright so it was just more book accurate, but with random lore dump flashbacks added in, got it.
And sorry, but I gotta say those name pronunciations were brutal here
