CROSSING A BORDER IN 2020 - Quarantine in Canada 🇨🇦

- In September of 2020, after not having seen my family for almost a year, I travelled to Europe for a short holiday to spend quality time with my family. Of course, having taken all necessary precautions, including a covid test, I flew to Europe without much trouble.
On my way back home to Canada, that was different. Canada has a very strict policy on entry, and with the quarantine act, everyone who enters Canada will have to quarantine or "self-isolate" for 14 days. And that is exactly what I did.
This is my experience.

Fun video! Looking forward to visiting Canada again! Or anywhere else in the world for that matter! Still looking forward to the trip reports...
Thanks John! They’re coming!
Thanks for the update Robin! Glad you made it home for a bit.
Probably next summer until I can do the same.
Thanks Andrew, Fingers crossed!
Nice work bud. Keep it up great work!
Thanks Kevin!
Another fun video, i get the joke now! Please keep your video's coming. Along with Alex Prag they are our favourites on RUclips :0)
Thanks Dan 😁
Thanks for posting this Robin. It was interesting to hear how the system operates in Canada. I`m glad at least that you were permitted to travel in order to see your family. I am based in Australia where citizens are not permitted to travel overseas unless in exceptional circumstances such as compassionate or humanitarian reasons. No overseas travellers are permitted to enter the country except for returning citizens who must serve a 14-day period of quarantine. However, unlike in Canada, quarantine must be carried out in a designated hotel under police supervision, and the cost must be borne by the individual.
Pierre, although Dennis Bunnik had already told me about it in the interview I had with him, I find it hard to comprehend these strict regulations. I thought the quarantine in Canada was strict, but, with Australia being an Island, I do understand that that is a way to combat the virus from coming in, something NZ had done a great job of.
hey vuelogs is you be cancun mexico
Sooorrrry . We wish it was all a bit more clear cut too. Love the British .
Although I’m shocked Justin wasn’t at least in the re-enactment , Keep up the good work.
Lol, this was far outside of my comfort zone already, adding JT to the re-enactment would've gone too far!
Thanks for sharing your experience, Robin. If one is just visiting the country instead of going home like you, are they allowed to enter? And if so, can they quarantine in a hotel?
Hey Wayne, I’m happy you liked it! No, Canada is completely closed for tourism. But, recently they did open up for more opportunities to family reunion. I don’t think Canada will open up for tourism in a while frankly. Are you still in Hong Kong?
Thanks for sharing your experience! I last travelled out of Canada during the March Break, going to London and returning home a week before the federal mandate to quarantine became law.
I do have one thing to ask: since you said that you arrived into Vancouver, then you quarantined in Edmonton, it sounds like that you were allowed to take a domestic flight from Vancouver to Edmonton right after you arrived in Canada, is that true? Personally I think that is quite risky, potentially having an infected person having arrived from overseas, and spreading it to other people on the flight even though masks are required. I think that Canada should've used a hotel quarantine system like what Australia and NZ are doing (where I've done a lot of research about), with mandatory COVID tests during quarantine.
Also, did you film anything for a trip report on your flights to Europe?
Hey bud, I did indeed fly onto Edmonton after I cleared customs in Vancouver, which is allowed because Edmonton airport is currently closed for international incoming traffic. Personally, I see the risk too low for the huge cost associated with the hotels like they have them in Oz and NZ, but my preference is rapid testing like they do here in Alta now.
And to answer your last question: Yes! The next video is coming out this weekend.
Did you only receive 2 calls to check if you’re quarantining? Did you go outside at all during the 14 days?
I got three phone calls, of which two by real humans (one federal, one provincial) and an automated phone call with a prerecorded message. And, no I didn’t go outside other than my patio (which is allowed)
@@Vuelogs did they call you at reasonable hours?
Very interesting and informative - thank you!
By comparison here in Australia, our borders are effectively closed. Australians need to get a special exemption if they want to leave the country. But interestingly what we've seen in Australia are state borders being closed as well, based on where the most cases are. These are gradually reopening now but you still have to go through a police check even though it's a domestic flight. I made a video about my recent trip that covers this if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/biSaeqYwHzk/видео.html
Great info! May I know if I use my mobile number that is not a canadian phone number? Can they still call me? Coz the country code strts at +63. Thanks!
As far as I know, it takes any country code, but you need to make sure that you actually answer the call, so if receiving phone calls is expensive with your +63 number in Canada, you might be better of looking for a Canadian sim before you go into quarantine.
@@Vuelogs thanks forvthe info! I’ll keep that mind. :)
