@bigclivedotcom : "It might work in a camper" "A lot of people in America live in trailers". There may be a misconception Clive, some words are used differently between our countries. Most people in the USA do not live in campers or trailers, which are different. A camper here is the same as a caravan there. There are primarily used for camping, although a small number live in them. They are not designed for full time use and are pulled behind a truck. I used to get eaten alive by any bugs in proximity when I was younger, but ever since I got extremely ill in my early 20s and was put on all sorts of medications, they absolutely won't bite me at all any more. It seems bizarre to use LEDs as heaters since they're more expensive than a PTC. Unless there's a specific reason for wanting light. Like attracting the insects. Which means they come a lot closer than they might to an ordinary vaporiser. Which means you don't need to put as much vapour out, so you can run at lower power and your consumable tablets last longer. So it's a very clever design, if that's really how it works. Or a very stupid design, because it's not good at killing the insects and the light will keep you awake at night. One or the other.

Is there a link with the light attracting the bugs with the lower output of vapor . . .but it has to vaporize first as you said, will be interested to see your results?!?
So vaporizers work? We used those mosquito repellent vaporizers (mains powered) at the summer house some 25 years back or so, don't recall them being terribly effective but they did give off a funny smell.
I've been using a couple of the "LED Mosquito Killer Lamp, Electronic Insect Killer, Bug Zapper Mini Light Lamp" for some time now and find that they work well at attracting and killing small insects that love ultraviolet light (the LEDs in these), and without the nasty chemicals or excessive power usage. They just use a few LEDs and an electrified "screen", and plug directly into AC (120 here). My simple watt-O-meter only registers above about 0.5 watts and these little bug zappers don't register, so I don't know what they're consuming (not having bothered to diagnose deeper), but I'd assume not much. Clive, if you would be interested in checking some of these type devices out it would be nice to see your results.
@@bigclivedotcom Sort of, but smaller and oval shaped: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B074276LX4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (no longer available but very similar others are). I just took one apart, but being a novice I can't do the complete Clive thing, though I can say it contains four LEDs, two 400V caps (both brown, one larger than the other), a rather large gray 51K ohm 5% resistor, and two diodes. And yes, when removed from mains there's still voltage on the metal "screen", which, when finger touched gives a fun little shock. After having learned this the hard way, I now use an old tooth brush to clean the screens. I've also shorted the screen very briefly w/a metal object and got a nice spark, but no apparent damage to the unit.
I just realized we will not be vaporizing insects and am disappointed.

@@Mashamazzi which one do you mean? Mind a timecode? One in the big yellow bag?
Apologies if you've answered this or a similar question before, but I'm curious to know what your take on Robot Wars/BattleBots/King of Bots would be. I feel it would be something keen to your interests, especially in the modern format.
Although admittedly, part of that is just me wanting to see what sort of incredible thing you'd build if you were to participate...
I've watched robot wars from early on. The modern bots are ridiculously destructive.
But… can they self-disassemble?
Get back to me when that's possible.
@@bigclivedotcom They really are! There's a phenomenal amount of variety in the designs now as well, especially overseas. Flippers, crushers, spinners, projectiles; there's even a couple of ludicrously big hammers out there too.
I'm actually looking forward to the new series next month. Discovery and the teams have all been releasing teasers since January and the hype is infectious. If you get the free time I recommend watching a few episodes. (Also thank you for the reply! You're one of my absolute favourite RUclipsrs!)
@@michaelthibault7930 Look up "Apex vs Track-Tion".
A lawn-mower turned upside-down isn't *_cheating_* ?
The smell of insect in the morning. . . ya cant beat it !
I'm thankful Clive did not kill any insects in this video.
We are causing an exteme insect extinction, so that would have been an extremely bad move.
They sell Ritter Sports here in Canada. There are tons of flavours hee, but none that you have. I'm German, so I grew up on wafer cookies and generic chocolates.
2am here (+9 gmt). Somebody sciency related once told me that a lot of insects are attracted or not to you depnding on how much c02 you breath out, smoking and beer drinking aparantly can make you more attractive to some species.
Those Ritter Sport chocolates are from Lidl, at least here in Slovakia people buy them in large quantities for some reason ☺
Clive, I would like if you would ever make a kind of fan-unboxing stuff. I have a lot of stuff here (to eat for example) I would send you. Maybe a lot of other people here would do this too. Just need a post adresse.
can u do mad vape tricks with those new insect vapes????
"There must be something particularly delicious about ladies."
Just gonna leave that right there, huh?
I wonder if nootkatone (natural grapefruit scent) would work well in a vaporizer?
Interesting there using the LEDs to heat the oil
If only Clive had a taste testing channel...
I used fluorescent lamp magnetic ballast to heat up these pads. Quite effective.
Is there a link with the light attracting the bugs with the lower output of vapor . . .but it has to vaporize first as you said, will be interested to see your results?!?
So it vaporizes both German chocolate and USB insects? Sign me up.
So vaporizers work? We used those mosquito repellent vaporizers (mains powered) at the summer house some 25 years back or so, don't recall them being terribly effective but they did give off a funny smell.
The nimm soft 2... yeah every German person watching this will freak out about it. Because they’re actually called „nimm 2 soft“
I am German, and you are indeed correct
what i really want is something to stop them flying directly towards my eyes, other than wearing glasses all the time.
Are they like this one? ruclips.net/video/LtXmsxRdiUw/видео.html
@@bigclivedotcom Sort of, but smaller and oval shaped:
smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B074276LX4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (no longer available but very similar others are).
Awesome vaporized pyrethrin and or Deet.. Yummy............
