@SasquatchGroove How dare they play warm-ups good for their technique but boring for the audience? I always appreciate the fact that the vanguard aren't afraid to fly in the face of expectations. It doesn't always work or even make a huge deal of sense (2005 *cough* *cough*), but you have to concede at least in part that "Basic Strokes" is a demanding exercise that shows a great deal of control and maturity.
@SasquatchGroove No, it's a valid point. It's always a give and take between the excitement factor and the warmup factor. You raise a good point: I just happen to fall on the other side of the divide, it seems.
I like how when the groove starts, the snare on the left end vibes the camera right the fuck out. VANGUARD! =] also the chick in the middle looks mad. lol.
Don't know if you've been following Vanguard Cadets but casey dug up some of gusseck's greatest hits and they've been playing them as of late. There's a nice quality video of them playing thirteen and cheesy poofs/stick control.
Its called THE SHOW before THE SHOW for a reason. Paul Rennick is f'n awesome at what he does. Yeah, he has gotten them higher scores. Yeah, he has gotten them high drums. But, that not all there is. The previous shows not only did they work on the mechanics/technique, but they ENTERTAINED as well. That's the difference he's talking about. Ever seen any of their Jon'z videos? Check them out & then look at what kind of warm ups they do now. Worlds apart. i.e......look at Scott Johnson & BD. Technical? Hell yes! Entertaining? Hell yes. High drums? Yup.
This comment didn't age well after 5 Sanford Trophies. I have been a long time SCV supporter and I'll gladly take SCVs dominance in DCI currently anytime to what it was right before the Rennicks took over.
Their basses are tuned so perfect :D It makes the groove at 1:47 THAT much better :D
Wow, barf.
Hahaha, i love your camera work from 4:35-4:50. It made it pretty fun to watch

BSBINC1 I totally agree!
Why? His scores are considerably higher and more consistent than old SCV. He already has 2 sanford awards and has been top 3 for the rest.
