    To all those saying that these guys hide dirt with their tuning:
    Even with the most possible snare response, it will only affect the sustain of the drum by thousanths of a second. Anything that would otherwise be dirty, would still be dirty on these drums. Sorry to impose upon your verbal sabotage of an excellent program.

    @jarbear027 As a Phantom and UNT alumnus, I need to address these statements of Phantom's easy books, and how Dev's have harder books. I learned at UNT under Paul that there are many drummers that come in expecting to make drumlines, and they got mad chops! When given the "task" of playing 8-on a hand, they absolutely can't do it! So I pose the question, especially to the people that accuse Phantom of easy books - what defines difficulty - fast notes....or working with more open space?

    • @richpellegrin7713
      @richpellegrin7713 2 года назад +5

      But also, what matters is the musicality of the writing and of the performance. This book is written and performed beautifully. And it sure as hell isn’t easy. What else matters?

    @Mergician dude, yes. I agree for sure. I don't think it's so much "working with more space" as much as it is actually playing in time. When I drum my goal is to be so in time that I cancel out the Dr. Beat and I can't hear the click. So many individuals and groups take this concept for granted and don't really fully apply it. They would rather be clean "clean" than go for individual "in time-ness."

    They look at both. That is why it is so hard to quantify a good drumline. I've heard from judges trying to decided, should they go with the line who is playing the HARDEST book (that fits; cadets play some crazy notes every year and it fits on field) that isn't 100% clean, or the line who is playing an easier more "musical" book that is playing it piss clean. Most lines are never 100% clean anyways, esp at this level.

    I am a coats fan but i understand that corps win because of the aspects of their show and how everything fits together. i respect BD because they win for a reason not because they are overrated or over hyped. They win because they are good at what they do. this year phantom was better at drums than BD in finals and nothing is gonna change. Judges pick the corps that win because they have worked hard and they deserve to win, not because they like their music or how hard their percussion book is.
