I read many of the comment here and all i could say is, it missed the key take-away of what lead to US debacle in Afghanistan. I believe the reason that led to debacle in Afghanistan, in fact all the recent failure of US Policy, boiled down to two things: Reckless Go in quick bravado, attitude. But with no realistic & sustainable exit strategy. Whether its War, Business or just getting into a relationship. It's important that one must have a plan for each stages of the situation. First, the entry strategy to the situation. Next, your strategy while in the situation. And finally, Your strategy on how to exit the situation. Unless you can sensibly address each of your stages in the situation. I believe it would be prudent to stay away from that situation.
The Duke of Wellington wrote about how India would descend into chaos and blood if we just removed all of the middle managers. They ran the country, and we wondered why it descended I to chaos. It's appalling because we repeated a failure of history. Wellington managed to stabilise Mysore. A country with three times the population of the UK. We ignore Wellington at our peril. Xx P. S. It isn't though, there's been zero evidence that Bin Laden got any material help, or training. You're not arming Al-Qaeda, and 9/11 wasn't a false flag. You really need to seek help.
