The one of the strongest windstorms of 2021 hit the Great Lakes region on Monday. High winds created waves up to 15 feet tall on Lake Michigan. Winds gusted up to 50mph or slightly higher. There was significant beach erosion and some minor lakeshore flooding. This package includes various scenes of large waves crashing against lighthouses and the shore, as well as clips of erosion, minor lakeshore flooding, and gusty winds.

Grew up in Grand Rapids and would go to Grand Haven and Holland just to watch the winter storms. Brings back a lot of memories. Including the news stories about the occasional idiots getting WASHED OFF THE PIERS in weather just like what's depicted in the video pretty much every year!

Lightfoot's song is about Lake Superior (yes, the other lakes are mentioned) and Lake Superior is known to have MUCH ROUGHER weather than Lake Michigan. Now look at this video again and think about that!

I've watched the US Coast Guard in Manistee ride the giant waves up and down several hundred yards from the pier and have them gun the boat on the top of a 12 foot wave and actually surf that wave right up the Manistee river. Of course on the river the wind blows from the west and the current flows from the east making some giant rollers. Our Coast Guard amaze me over and over what they can do an do do.
