They were called super buggers... Only 218 made. They are only 300lbs over a stock beetle. Neat campers. Made by a company called super campers in Costa Mesa CA
It was featured in the Popular Mechanix in the 70s and a number of them were built. Plans are apparently still available. The floorpan was strengthened somewhat but the running gear was standard.
Keep finding these cars, makes for an interesting side channel, thanks
Back in the 80s in Hutchinson there was one of these, the Bug was purple and it said Winnie-Bug-O, pretty cool!
Congrats on 100k guys. 😁
Thank you! We are very happy!
I have a set of original plans, and I'm mid build on one of these right now. This is just the video to keep me motivated. :-)
How's the build going?
Ive seen these before. Started seeing them in the 70s during the opec oil embargoes. Theres one in Pasco WA at a rv dealership at the top of their sign post out front. Has to be over 50ft in the air.
Sorry Tommy ,, Early 70’s ,, 73 or older Beetle ,, 1974 they started putting the “shock absorber “ on the bumpers to meet the 5mph requirement by the NHTSA ,,,
Many years ago, I stopped asking the question, "What will they think of next?" ;)
That cameraman is a primary Donna..
Its a 67 ish, its a long nose but has the indicator light on top of the wheel arch
This is the third one I have seen. The other two were in person in Oregon. There must have been some small company that at least offered plans kind of like the stuff found in the back of old Popular Mechanics magazines? Pretty cool though
Yes they were made by super campers in Costa Mesa CA. Only 218 made
This was sold as a kit conversion in the late '60s. It's called the Super Bugger.
This thing is Rad.
Did you guys get any more info on this RV? Engine? Why it was built? Would make a good episode to talk to the owner of this RV👍
They were called super buggers... They only made 218 of them. And they were only 300lbs over a stock beetle
got to have one.......too cute
Way cool, guys!
0-60 time =never.
very cool
If the front end was painted it would look really nice.
Love it
A company makes these theres a collector down the road from me
73 because of the bumpers.
No, its a long nose it would be early 67 or older, my 69 bug has the same bumper
👍Perfect 👍
I would like to build something like this using a more modern car or truck with maybe a fiberglass front end like a Jeep or Hummer replica.
Mustie1 had this in a vid a while ago :)
Beetle Juice?
Kinda competes against a Honda Element.
Plans are still available from the original source rqriley.com/product/vw-minihome/
and you do not have to use an original bug there is an aftermarket chassis from Berrien buggies berrienbuggy.com/genesis-chassis/
There is plenty of places to buy the sheet metal parts to build a new front end.
It's a '75
It's called a super bugger they only made 300 of them
A company made these ,it’s not home made unless sombody did the version
Shit has no protection on passengers. But also cool as hell!
With that shape and weight it can't probably get out of 1st gear.
I think that is really nice. one can still get plans for it. rqriley.com/product/vw-minihome/ I wonder if one could do that camper with the new or newer VW Beetle? might have more room in back since the engine and trans is in front.
I didn’t see any seatbelts
it has a front bumper for safety...didnt you see that?
Plus, a few I break for kids, dogs and old fks bumper sticker stickloaf!
@@gregormiller4037 *brake
The RV part and interior is "new" the front part of the beetle is old'
It's a Super Bugger.
As seen here: ruclips.net/video/gmu12LqmVIw/видео.html
I remember seeing the plans for this back in the 70s in Mechanix Illustrated. Here's a link with illustrations from it.
