  • Filled with incredible, never before seen archival footage as well as cameos and anecdotes from some of skateboarding’s most beloved figures, "The L.A. Boys" is a touching look back at a pivotal moment in skateboarding history. Watch Now: geni.us/LABoysEB
In 1989, street skating became a major force within skateboarding and was poised to usurp the ramp, pool, and skatepark disciplines that preceded it. Enter Gabriel Rodriguez, Paulo Diaz, Rudy Johnson and Guy Mariano; four teenage friends from Los Angeles, who through a chance encounter with "Bones Brigade" mastermind Stacy Peralta, went from unknowns to some of the most influential street skaters of all time. The L.A. Boys is a firsthand account of the events that led to their fateful meeting with Stacy and the subsequent ground breaking video segment they would create together for the 1989 Powell Peralta classic, “Ban This”.

Seeing Paulo nollie a bench at Los Feliz in the early 90s was a religious experience. At that point people used to push their fronts onto cracks in the sidewalk to pop the board.

      It's now 3 yrs later.
I've rd ur comment and think I'm possibly from the same time frame in skating as urself? I remember well the nollie begining with cracks, small lips poking up etc A 3 and half inch nose can't really be popped so pressure started that trick. It evolved into the "popping" off the nose we all associate with nollies today with popsicles etc. In a way it's cool seeing the evolution of the whole thing. Even since 87 when I started skating . I live 20 mins from Livi Skatepark (Home of Stu Graham, a well known Livi local)
Anyway, prattling on a bit, so must apologise.
Rd ur comment and it took me right back, so thanks. Nothing like a bit nostalgia to remind u of important stuff time to time. 👍👍

I saw Gabriel's backside 180 over the rubbermaid in Guy's LOV and that was smooth, but damn! He was totally underpromoted, IMHO.

Street Skateboarding is where it all Originated... Somewhere Someone was tired of walking and thought 🤔Hey, what if we were rolling instead? I got an old set of RollerSkates that are too small for me and I want to 🔨 the wheels onto a piece of wood and ride it like a Surfboard🏄‍♂️. GTFOH

If you didn't skate Powell 🛹 or watch any of the whole Bones Brigade video show, Future Primitive, Animal Chin, Ban This, Propaganda etc...Then U thought these dudes were Cornballs. I Quit skating Powell when Danny Way left!!! I remember having to hide my 🛹 cuz I'd get made fun of by the other street skaters cause it was a Tony Hawk Vert deck w/Pink Ventures. Everyone would be like, YO TONY HAWK!!!
