    Forgot to mention, the WR390 has bigger housing then WR336 xxx older models and have passive bass reflex. Because of this and higher power output 7.5W vs 5W the sound is fuller, louder and the bass goes deeper. Also the charity has improved. Even the instrument separation is great for a mono radio.

      This I have noticed, it is a more pleasant listening experience compared to the smaller radios that are a bit more harsh, and need work with the custom EQ to get the pitch just right.

    Nice! I'm interested in this. I have the Crane WiFi 3 but there are 2 things I don't like about it. First is no battery operation and second is low volume on some stations. Does this radio have plenty of volume? On some stations I have to turn the WiFi 3 up all the way and still can't hear it across the room. Thanks for the review.

    • @todderbert

      Could be the quality of the audio stream. This radio has plenty of volume.

    • @Bruce_W
      @Bruce_W 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@todderbert Yes, the low volume is the stream’s fault but the Crane doesn’t have enough audio output to compensate. In the past, I have plugged a Crane FM transmitter into the WiFi 3 and listen with a portable FM radio that has more volume. Thanks for the reply.

    I started with the first CCrane WiFi radio using the old Reciva aggregator. Also the paid Reciva app. Then went to app based internet radio. Tunein, etc. Tunein has become too big for its britches selling commercials, so moved on. Interested in another radio. CCrane sells one plus Ocean. Not interested in a battery operated centric device though. The unit displayed here appears to be a great tabletop unit. Does it run conveniently from AC mains?

    I have one of Ocean Digital’s Internet radio systems that you reviewed a few years back. It still works great. This is also a very nice machine itself. As I don’t need DAB, that part wouldn’t be too useful but the FM addition is cool, for when my internet connection goes down. My internet radio is rather when I can’t use or don’t want to go outside to listen to my shortwave radio, but I am using it more and more often now.

    Love this vid! I have several Ocean Digital WiFi radios and enjoy them all; particularly, the small model that is like a pocket transistor radio because I can take it anywhere. Ocean Digital is certainly a prolific manufacturer in this space, but I wish they had a decent phone App instead of a remote. Sangeans use AirMusic and Undok and Grace Digital has a great App for its Mondo Elite model. SkyTune is fun, but it would be nice to have more streaming options onboard. PS. There is a radio OD radio model with a strap handle but it is powered with a micro USB instead of USB C. All in all OD radios are solid entertainment companions in the wifi internet radio space.

      What is your recommendation for the best portable internet radio with built in fm and best sounding speaker?

    • @timothyfoley3149
      @timothyfoley3149 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@joeweberofficial I collect wifi internet radios and have many Ocean Digital models, Sangean and even the Grace Mondo Elite. My favorite radio genre is OTR shows like Mystery Theater. Generally, I prefer the Ocean Digital WR 210CB which is an older model, but is portable, has a bass port and sounds decent. The only drawback is no battery. For battery units I like to use the Ocean Digital WR 210 N. I also like the WR 23F. For music I prefer my Sangean WFR-32 with stereo speakers. It's important to realize that different brands of radio might use different internet portals for content aggregation. Ocean Digital uses Skytune and they have a web site you can check out for what stations they carry. Other companies use the Frontier portal, so if you favor one portals content over another try and figure out which portal the radio connects to. Happy listening!

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  6 месяцев назад +2

      WiFi radios have an issue with including MW for some reason. The LC90 uses its whip antenna to receive AM, not the best, but a solution. I have so many radios, that if my wifi is down, there would be no trouble for me to tune in an AM station manually. I mainly use my Ocean Digital for AM broadcasts.

    I have multiple Ocean Digtial Radios. The 99-memory units:
    - WR-23D (2)
    - WR-23F
    - WR-336N (2)
    - WR-210N
    - WR-26D (2)
    - WR-26F.
    The 'D' have DAB ; The 'F' do not.
    I have a mixture of content stored in different Memory configurations in each radio. Some of them have mostly Shortwave stations, some have mostly AM/FM locals, some have mostly AM/FM regional/national. Even some online scanners scattered in the memories across the devices. The FAVOURITE web interface is the best. Copy/Paste listings or the SKYTUNE database. The Memories are stored locally on each device.

      The WR23D is indeed an underapreciated piece. It's small and features FM DAB and Interenet radio. The Web Interface makes it quite usable. The ability to store stations locally will make it usable even when Skytune will go defunct.

      Hi! Yes, I just got my WR-210N going again, it had an update, and boom, no more wifi drops, and some of my missing stations were back :) so happy. Using it for Coast to Coast atm, but may move over to the larger 390 for its better audio. The three inch speaker in it sounds great.

  • @safugpac2691

    WR390 and bigger stereo brother WR860 are the latest from Ocean Digital.
    I have modified my WR390 and the battery life is 60 hours, from the original battery 7 hours.
    I had more expensive radios but these are my favourite.
    I have asked Ocean Digital people to add Spotify and Bluetooth 5.3 in the future models. These all use Bluetooth 4.2 that is not great.

    • @Bruce_W
      @Bruce_W 6 месяцев назад

      May I ask what you did to increase battery life? I'm thinking of getting this radio and maybe fitting two 18650 batteries in parallel if there is room.

    • @safugpac2691
      @safugpac2691 6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, first of all remove the original battery 18650, 2200 mAh, and keep the 3 wire connector. Unscrew the battery housing and take it off. Now buy a genuine Ansmann 3.7 v battery pack 10500 mAh and connect it to the original wires. The Ansmann has it's own regulator and battery protector built it, so you are safe. The battery pack to be fitted in the end on the buttom of the radio. There is room for this. Use quality electrical tape to secure the wires and battery pack. Now because is more room inside the radio without the original battery, the sound of the radio will be fuller. The bass reflex port it does it's job really well.
      Another benefit of this mod apart from better sound and longer battery life 50+ hours is that you don't have to turn the radio off after use, just put it in the sleep mode. Only in this mode you can take advantage of the built in alarm clock.
      I have used more expensive radios in the past like Roberts Stream 94i, bit the WR390 sounds more natural, relaxed and effortless after the mod.
      I hope this helps.
