Thought you were going to talk about the music... I love DQ games, i really do, but their lack of Unique Soundtracks in each of their new installments, truly kills me like nothing else.
As someone who's very fluent in Square Enix marketing, they are absolutely awful at marketing anything other than Final Fantasy. They have a lot of IP's that are beloved, but then they don't market them at all. Especially games like Bravely Default and The World Ends With You. These have become cult classics, because Square Enix won't market them to a broader audience. Final Fantasy games have sold over 10 million copies multiple times now, and yet Square Enix refuses to market their turn based franchises properly.
Dragon Quest is a simple comfort Jrpg Franchise and i hope they dont change to much. Keep it simple = Win = Cash = we Jrpg fans who love turnbased Jrpgs happy.
Like why Dragon quest X isn't worldwide? Also other spinoffs such as Dragon quest victory road ,DQMJ3 ....... With decent marketing those games could have done a great succes
I am NOT just frustrated. I am more or less fucking pissed. Pissed at how Square-Enix treats some of their franchises especially Dragon Quest like shit. As you know, I've been doing playthroughs of the Dragon Quest games. Not only for the sake of showing my love but also to raise awareness. Currently I'm at Dragon Quest III even though I finished it. Holy hell, after finding this video, I can share your frustration. I honestly hate how Square-Enix has been sabotaging this franchise. Why is that? Because they treat Final Fantasy like their golden goose while other IPs like Dragon Quest are given the boot. I've said this many times over and I may as well say it again. If it wasn't for Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy wouldn't even exist. If it wasn't for Dragon Quest, Hironobu Sakaguchi would be just another person working a 9-5 job and not be involved in gaming. If it wasn't for Dragon Quest, Square would be bankrupt and just another company long forgotten. If it wasn't for Dragon Quest, JRPGs wouldn't be as well known today. Honestly, Square-Enix should be putting all their love and support toward the franchise pretty much responsible for saving the company. They should be thanking Dragon Quest, not leaving it to rot. I can go on and on but I plan to make a video expressing my frustration in regards to Dragon Quest and so forth.
The Dragon quest franchise are my favorite comfort games, the art style keeps the dark or sad moments from bumming you out you can't help but love it treasures is my favorite to play on rainy days

I had a conspiracy theory that the Square side(FF team/s) of SQEX is that they don’t want DQ overshadowing FF worldwide. And if your familiar with Monster Hunter, MH is basically popular in both Japan and the West so if DQ wanted to be like MH, i bet you that CBU1 and CBU3 are doing everything in their power to sabotage DQ’s rise to popularity. As you said, FF should relinquish its crown, and give it to DQ and Square needs to support it!
I agree dragon quest needs more marketing. My friend only found out about DQ11 when they announced the switch version. He was so excited telling me there was a new game announced, I had to tell him it’s been out on ps4 for years.
So the biggest change needed is there should be more of it and they shouldn’t hide it from the west so much. As a dq fan in Japan, it’s almost as frustrating here. Luckily I still have some catching up to do on older games in the series.
Dragon Quest is the original jrpg, one of the most revolutionary games ever made but people just give all the credit to FF1. Square Enix have so many franchises but only bank on FF being successful. They even sold most of their bankable IP. DQ11 only sold well on pure word of mouth. I hope it gets promoted but I doubt it SE always pander to their western audience who don't really play DQ
The Zenithian Trilogy on modern consoles would be so dope. I really want to experience Dragon Quest 5. I missed out on the DS release and won't be able find that without paying an arm and a leg and I refuse to play an expansive RPG on a cellphone.
It would be a HUGE missed opportunity if we don’t get the Zenithian Trilogy on modern consoles either sometime this year or next year to capitalize on the hype of Dragon Quest Monsters 3

I got what you meant, officially neither were released outside Japan, and DQV SFC was never officially translated (for the uninitiated, he's showing off a fan translation). Dragon Quest VI SFC actually was completely translated, officially, and was in the process of about to start the process of Nintendo QA when Enix of America closed it's offices. Since DQV was never even considered for American release (if I remember correctly, even Yuji Horii himself expressed doubts that a US audience would care about a game about getting married and starting a family), DQVI was going to be released here as Dragon Warrior V. You know how old game prototypes keep popping up on the internet? A fully translated Dragon Warrior V is my holy grail. I wonder if the Dragon Warrior Monsters release was decided at the same time, and meant to be cross-promoted with Dragon Warrior V. It still got released here because Eidos Interactive of all companies picked it up.
Don't fix what's not broken. Look at Final Fantasy. People don't care about these new Final Fantasy games at all. If you feel this way your a hardcore gamer. Others will want it to change to sut their needs. Leave Dragon Quest alone. Would love to see new or old Dragon Quest games that we haven't seen or never got released in the US
I would love a remake of DQ8 with DQ11's graphics and skill system(bu keep Tension) or at least a HD remaster. Also hope they do 2D HD remakes of DQ1, 2, and especially 4.

Its crazy to think how long ago the DQIII remake was revealed. I would wonder if the game was canceled but this just seems like how SE does business. As someone who hasn’t really played the series, I feel like DQXI had some pretty good advertising. Copy available is also a big thing went to go pick up dragon quest monsters today and they only had one copy I had to drive all over just to snag a physical version
It would help if they released the series on modern consoles. They released the first 3 to switch but a lot of other games are impossible to play unless you kept your older consoles or DS. Even if you kept your DS the games will cost 150 plus.

Dragon Quest has been a pioneer in JRPG's and yet it keeps getting shafted in Favour of Final Fantasy, Especially since Final Fantasy hasn't been turn based since 12 and has since been going in the Hacky Slashy direction. It almost seems that Square don't want Dragon Quest to overhshadow Final Fantasy outside of Japan and at times feel like it's fucking over Dragon Quest in favour of it in the west, This is despite Final Fantasy becoming a Diet Devil May Cry series that i'm not sure can be classfied as a JRPG.
6:40 Where did you get the information that DQH1+2 on the Switch was localized in the Asian release with English text? I can't find any information on how to import it (if it exists and if it has English), so knowing where you got the information from would be great. I have the English PS4 versions of both games, but I'd like to have Ragnar as a playable character in an English version of the game if possible.
It was only the Asian release of the combo pack of Heroes 1&2 that had English due to places like Singapore that don’t entirely speak Mandarin nor Japanese
I could not agree more with this video. There needs to be more emphasis on DQ marketing in the west. It’s a tried and true series yet still gets overlooked too frequently in the west.
DQ 10 is only like $6 a month and some change…maybe $7 lol its also fully playable in English if you play it on PC. Though some people are really weird and wont play something unless its 10000% done by devs who dont want to do things that potential buyers want….like translating the game.
The towns in DQX arent that big. All of the towns in FFXIV are bigger imo. The world is in the same boat i think. It just feels bigger due to the run speed of the character. But i love DQX. Are you in the Dragon’s Den Team or Worldwide Team?

I'm still mad how Smash will shoehorn in characters like Bayonetta and Persona kid and overnight these franchises will "magically" be popular and stop selling like shit but when they do it with Dragon Quest, a series that really deserves success in the west, oh well NOW it doesn't work
I would say Smash helped a ton of people get into DQ. I know of a lot of people who wanted to play the games after getting introduced to the Heroes in Smash Bros
The newer spinoff games are mediocre to bad. They hurt the brand, no more of these cash grabs. Full focus on completing the remake of DQ3 instead. Get rid of the cheap sounding MIDI music. If there are legal obstacles they have to drop the old melodies completely.
Square enix has been a joke since it’s inception. Squaresoft was light years ahead of this abortion of a company. All they do is pump out gotcha games or spit in the face of the very classics that put them on the map. Just look at FF16. Everything square built, square enix has made a point to destroy. It’s a miracle of god they got dragon quest 11 right. But hey even a broken clocks right twice a day. Here to ten more gotcha games that will prey on our nostalgia and then shut down with 2 years. There’s really no hope for the series to do better internationally it’s pretty much too late. It’s not going to change so there is no point in thinking otherwise.
Intellectual property is difficult as the faces behind the company and their goals change. Even with the original programmers/designers, they sometimes have a different vision of the experience they want to give the player. I think it's important to see that many new games are offering better game quality than dragon quest (even within square enix). It's confusing as they have some titles at square enix with better performance, story, and gameplay. You would think they want to capitalize on the Dragon Quest name, but in general it seems like they've always done it better in Japan as compared to N. America. I think my biggest issue is that the experience I'm looking for has also changed and after playing a bit of Dragon Quest XI and the recent dragon quest monsters demo, I'm just not as interested with the story or mechanics, especially when other series (octopath/pokemon) are hitting the spot. I would argue that maybe this is not a square enix issue, but rather a dragon quest issue.
I disagree. The fact that something as low effort as Pokemon; with basically zero characters, zero story, and less available monsters than they had 2 generations ago is as successful as it is; tells you how important proper marketing is. Heck, they’ve been called out on their BS so much lately that they’ve finally even admitted it themselves and said they’re going to actually put some time and effort into the next games instead of having less and charging extra for something that was in previous games.
Great video. I've always loved the dragon warrior and dragon quest line of games. Since the regular nintendo I have been playing the dragon quest games and have bought almost every one of them since that time.

Heck, they’ve been called out on their BS so much lately that they’ve finally even admitted it themselves and said they’re going to actually put some time and effort into the next games instead of having less and charging extra for something that was in previous games.
Great video. I've always loved the dragon warrior and dragon quest line of games. Since the regular nintendo I have been playing the dragon quest games and have bought almost every one of them since that time.
