Thank you for the kind words! Your concerns about OTFs are entirely reasonable. But, Microtech buttons are really stiff. Folks often complain about it, but it prevents exactly the situation you mention. It is highly unlikely that the blade will deploy in your pocket, and even if it does, the double-action Microtechs have a safety built in that prevents the blade from puncturing anything that offers resistance. Their single-action knife, the HALO, does not have this safety feature, and will push right through anything. I know several ladies who carry assorted Microtechs often, and none of them have had any issues. I hope this info is useful, and I'm happy to help any way I can.

5 лет назад
This a true microtech knife? I'm barely dipping into the otf market and I'm big on brand loyalty but dont see a logo. Ultratech, combat troodon, and this one are all catching my eye.
This is absolutely a real Microtech. The Mk7 Cyphers have the logo, serial, and birthday on the side of the knife. You can see it when I flip the knife over. Mike at Southern Edges still has some of these limited edition Cyphers in stock.
@timmy _ The lighter weight compared to the Combat Troodon has made the Cypher my favorite OTF knife. Call me crazy, but it makes its way into my pocket every day.
Excellent! Both informative and hilarious! I particularly like the mastadon-sized penis-shaped rock that Captain Kirk is holding, not to mention the alien kangaroo at the end. Well done my good man; well done.
I wouldn't call it foolish. Let's take a moment to consider how this knife was produced. The Troodon and the Ultratech are standard production knives with thousands rolling off the line each year. For a knife like that, it's sensible to offer a lefty option for the clip. The Cyphers were a very limited production run, 100 for some models. There are very few Cyphers in existence. There aren't many left-handed folks who want Cyphers. They would've had to tool up to create what, 5 or 6 left-handed knives? With this design, the option to swap the clip would've altered the aesthetics and the way the chip screws in. The knife would've been uglier, all to please a handful of people. Microtech did the smart thing. From a financial standpoint, it would've been far more foolish for Microtech to produce a left-handed version. Also worth noting: most lefties can figure out how to carry a "right-handed" knife. I stuck one of my Cyphers in my left pocket and had no issues drawing and deploying the knife with my left hand.
thegunpenguin I would submit that your looking at this entirely incorrectly. Keeping a right handed knife in the left pocket defeats the purpose of a quick deployment knife and the suggestion clearly indicates a misunderstanding of the issue. You have to take it out, rotate it then deploy it. So, it was indeed foolish not to offer this blade in a left friendly version. There are thousands of left handed knife owners that would buy one (not sure where you got your facts about only a handful of lefties wanting a cypher, seems to be very subjective if not entirely fabricated). It’s a mass produced item, not hand made so no different than the ultratech or troodon. And as for the left handed model, many high end knife makers have offered a dual drilling or ambidextrous option with a creatively incorporated aesthetic cover to ensure uniformity. With multi axis machining, It’s not difficult at all and really adds minimal cost but ensures maximum penetration of the marketplace (standard business 101) and maintains the overall beauty of the product while displaying exemplary planning, craftsmanship and creativity.
@@sebenzanista You're right, I do think we're misunderstanding each other. I'm easily able to deploy the knife with my left hand from my left pocket. It takes about 1/3 of a second longer. But that's the least important part -- everyone has different hands, different pockets, and different experiences. Most of what I say is entirely fabricated, and shouldn't be taken seriously, because I'm an idiot. However, here is some clarification, all the same: There are very few Cyphers in existence. Very few. Prior to John Wick 3, they weren't very popular. More than that, most models were limited to a run of 100. It took a long time for the original, and very limited, run to sell, until John Wick 3 hit theaters. The Cypher is no longer in production. If not that many right-handed people wanted the Cypher, it would stand to reason that, with lefties being around 10% of the population, it wouldn't have been worth Microtech's time to produce a few left-handed models that might not sell. As for altering the design to make the clip reversible, of course, they could've made the clip reversible. But the knife wouldn't have looked the same. I'm right-handed, and I deeply love the aesthetics of this knife. 90% of us ought not have an uglier knife to please 10%. l know that hearing this won't please you. That's fine. I'm too busy enjoying my awesome right-handed Cyphers to worry about it. I understand that you're a very, very smart business man with lots of business learnings and business time, with an excess of fancy production and business words, while I'm just an illiterate possum. We're probably not going to agree on this, and that's totally ok. I'd recommend sending Microtech a sternly worded email expressing your dissatisfaction with their design philosophy, especially regarding an out-of-production knife. Also this knife is very, very different from the Ultratech and Troodon. The UT and Troodon are wildly popular, with thousands and thousands rolling off the line each year. So, they made it (relatively) easy to flip the clip around. The Cypher was a limited run. Truly, I mean no offense. I'm lucky enough to be more familiar than most with Microtech's manufacturing process and internal workings. Because of the way they produce knives, it's more difficult for them to alter parts of the production process, compared to other brands. Far more difficult. Should they try? Maybe, but the sales wouldn't cover their losses for many models. And they design knives the way they design knives, with a certain, often asymmetrical look. They have no interest in changing that to please a very small portion of the market. Whether you like doing it or not, many lefties don't have a problem drawing the knife and rotating it slightly. So why am I taking this much time to respond on a Sunday morning? It's an interesting question, and deserves an answer. And don't take my word for it -- ask Microtech why they don't produce the model you seek. (This message was dictated, and is likely a mess.)
Are you asking if the real ones come with a tool to open them? If so, no, they absolutely do not, and Microtech isn't fond of people opening them. And they're rather complicated inside. Best to send them back to the factory for maintenance. There are many, many counterfeit Microtechs on the market; unless you're buying from an authorized dealer, you're taking a risk.
Even if you don't like your camera, you need to learn how to use it better because you're making a few mistakes in your setup, good audio but that intro music it far too loud and out of the off the audio chain by too much.
I love microtech and own 2..... but I just can’t get over the ugly ass shape of the handle/casing on this edition. And the pocket clip is like a gentleman’s knife clip put on a tactical blade....ehhhhhh it just doesn’t flow. But beauty’s in the eye of the beholder. Great video..thumbs ⬆️

Hey Sir, if You decide that if u want to sell it, i can take it from you lol
They're counterfeit minds happen to have the same screws the triangle and come with a tool to open them as well. To the real ones do that?
Are you asking if the real ones come with a tool to open them? If so, no, they absolutely do not, and Microtech isn't fond of people opening them. And they're rather complicated inside. Best to send them back to the factory for maintenance. There are many, many counterfeit Microtechs on the market; unless you're buying from an authorized dealer, you're taking a risk.
I'm sure it's ceracoat
Even if you don't like your camera, you need to learn how to use it better because you're making a few mistakes in your setup, good audio but that intro music it far too loud and out of the off the audio chain by too much.
I love microtech and own 2..... but I just can’t get over the ugly ass shape of the handle/casing on this edition. And the pocket clip is like a gentleman’s knife clip put on a tactical blade....ehhhhhh it just doesn’t flow. But beauty’s in the eye of the beholder. Great video..thumbs ⬆️
"the coolest otf knife ever made"...? The Halo is the coolest otf ever made. Fact.
I like the HALO too; it's really fun to carry. But, see the Cypher finding its way into my pocket a little more often these days. Do you prefer the single-edge HALO, or the tanto?
@@thegunpenguin I have the tanto. But I also have a d/e ultratech. My next buy is going to be a cypher thought. I had a chance to play with my friend's and it was awesome.
@@cubeheadgameing Those are all fantastic knives! The D/E Ultratech is outstanding -- I carried mine for a very long time. Do you know which Cypher you're likely to pick up?
@@thegunpenguin I am thinking the warncliff, but the d/e is also awesome.
I love my Halo VI but for a more practical OTF, I prefer my Combat Troodon
I can tell just by your voice. Quit hiding behind the camera
