    I really appreciate your objectivity and in-depth analysis in your reviews. Personally i hate time limits therefore i skipped all Atelier games that have them. After watching your review i have even less regrets for doing so. :)

      I appreciate the nice comment! I think if I had history with older games in the series I wouldn’t have been so gungho about messing with the time limits, but it is what it is! Hope you look forward to the rest of the Dusk DX reviews!

      I will highly recommend Atelier Rorona DX. It's a remake of the first game from the Arland Trilogy. Rorona has very simple 3 month tasks, most of which can be finished within 2 weeks, if not on the first day with items already made/collected. It was my first entry into the franchise and I usually hate games with time limits too, but that was almost never an issue for me. I actually had spent so much extra time just adventuring that the only time the limit was an issue was because I had focused so much extra time on adventuring previously, I had gone about 6 months without doing any alchemy at all and my alchemy level was too low for that one task. Aside from that, it's basically just there for story purposes. Also, it runs well on Switch with the Town Center (only used for cutscenes and to hire 2 of your party members) being the only real location with noticeable frame issues when docked. It's otherwise super smooth and streamlined, for the most part

    This is my first Atelier game and I am loving it on the vita. I was expecting to not like jr and Ayesha is too naive for my liking but the beautiful world, the unique systems and a completely different feel from normal jrpgs has totally hooked me .

    I just finished Atelier Rorona DX from the Arland Trilogy and adored the game. It has a very explicit time limits, being separated into twelve 3 month chapters for each mission. They aren't too hard, but it's probably the most charming game I've ever played and the Overtime segment adds an extra year with some really challenging areas and bosses. It's a remake of the game, and the only full remake in the trilogy, so it feels really good. I highly recommend it, and I think you'll really appreciate the humor and tough, but mostly fair time restrictions.
    I will just recommend making all decoration items as soon as possible with the best item abilities you can get for them. If you know you can get something over the threshold to get the better ability with 1 or 2 more trips out gathering, I recommend going for that, so you only have to craft the decoration items once. They are essential to improving your efficiency (something I didn't realize until the few I did in my first playthrough carried over into my NG+ playthrough and made me far more efficient)

      I think this is really good advice, and probably something that many players who decide to go from more recent Ateliers going backward should know. I do hope that my criticism of the time limit didn't come across as a negative. I tried to place an importance on the history of the series by tying it with what it was versus what it is now, which I think is a really important context given the long history of the series.

      @Chronoflation 4 года назад +1

      @@BacklogBattle Oh, I found it to be completely fair. And you don't need to worry about negativity. Some stuff deserves to be criticized, and it can be understandable if rough parts of games leaves you with negative feelings. Nothing is perfect and we're all people, so negative emotions come up from time to time. I really appreciated your critique and look forward to my own adventures in this game when I get to it. I wanna finish Arland first, though, maybe after a short break, since I did just play Rorona twice in a row, lol.

    i loved ayesha as a character and the plotline was fun, but wow was the synthesis system convoluted, and the events and goals and interface with what needs to be done was severely lacking. to make it worse, i feel like there's no closure, either. i won't spoil if you haven't done all the dusks yet, but all of them seem incomplete, and don't feel connected very well to me. if you get a chance to play the mysterious trilogy at some point, i think you'll feel a lot more connectivity and fluidity across the series - the characters really continue their plotlines and character arcs quite well, and wrap up spectacularly in the end of lydie&suelle, especially if you do all the character arcs. i think you'll also feel the same way about sophie as you mention about ayesha - both of them are still my favorite protagonists in the atelier series, though ryza was a close third.
    i think if you continue with the series, the big inflections you'll find are that escha&logy are a lot more open about what they allow you to do, and have a lot better tracking of what needs to be done, compared to ayesha. and then when you get to sophie, basically you can do almost all the synthesis things you want from fairly early on. there aren't extreme limitations on transferring traits or combining things that existed in earlier games. like i'm playing rorona now and i'm halfway through and i feel like it was designed to frustrate people away from using alchemy for anything other than "take what you're lucky enough to find at random and toss it directly on a weapon and pray it's enough". whereas, by escha&logy, they encourage farming for some traits, creating high quality items with a few combined traits as a library of sorts, and generally preparing for later in the game, or being able to grind up a little in advance if you're willing to put in the effort to do longer synthesis chains to move stuff around. however, up to and including ayesha, it feels like they deliberately hamper you until the endgame, and then you're suddenly expected to catch up all at once.
    in contrast, all the mysterious games did this well, making things fairly open from fairly early, and so did ryza. in fact, i was able to grind up weapons right before the first dragon in ryza that took me all the way through the end of the game with no modifications, but just barely so, and only by really grinding the quality loops (which i felt like doing, but it wasn't necessary).

      Thanks for this! I've been waiting for sales for the other games for a good bit now - and I've yet to even review the rest of the Dusk DX trilogy - so I'm just biding my time until then, or the release of Ryza 2, whichever comes first! I do plan on going back to Lulua and seeing if I understand that kind of system better. If anything, the Mysterious trilogy has definitely interested me!

    I have yet to play the last of the Dusk trilogy, but I doubt it'll pass Escha & Logy, for me that games is golden, I wonder what you'll think about it.
    Ayesha was my first atelier game, the ps3 version, I remember that in my first playtrough I got the true ending with 1 day to spare, I also played very badly, I accidentally skipped the part where it explains how to manipulate synthesis, so because I didn't know how to complete a lot of quests I focused only on the story.

    Huge love for your Ayesha review! I agree with your statements on the game's confusing UI and how it stays one step backwards despite starting a new legacy.
    Of the Dusk Trilogy, I find Ayesha to be the weakest due to its game design; Though the alchemy system is still in-depth, the time limit is still on the stressful-side and the battle mechanics manage to stay too simplistic similar to the Arland games. Likewise, the cutscenes seem to feel more...relentless at times compared to the standard flow of the games.
    That said, everything that the game has going for it - from the music, story, characters and Ayesha herself - makes it all worth the adventure. Really looking forward to your Escha & Logy review ^_^

    Ah yes, the girl who said fuck the world and saved her sister instead... I love Ayesha, the dx version was my first time playing it and absolutely loved it. Never had any problem with the time limit tbh it’s actually very forgiving compared to rorona for example (and I think totori is even worse lol I haven’t played that yet), and got the “good” ending in my first try... loved the characters, the combat (stupid fortress boss), the ost and the world of dusk which is surprisingly... sad? Melancholic is a better word probably. It easily became one of my favorites and I feel it does a better job at managing both a more “serious” story and wholesome cute character interactions than ryza which also tried to be more serious but failed horribly at character interactions (which is why it’s one of my least favorites so far).

      Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts about Ayesha DX! I truly think that there’s value in going back to these games and I hope that other people who discovered the series through Ryza give the older games a shot! I’m personally hoping that the Mysterious trilogy goes down in price to check them out, but with all the games coming in not even sure if I’ll have the time to play! What do you think would be a great first game to play in the series for newcomers?

    • @heribertoesquivel7500
      @heribertoesquivel7500 4 года назад +1

      @@BacklogBattle Honestly I think it depends on whatever you're interested or not because every game I have played is very beginner friendly, and even the sequels work very well as stand alone games... I started with the third game on the mysterious trilogy and loved it so much I bought 11 more games the same year. The only real barrier I can think of is the time limit, but that's only for Rorona and Totori and that didn't stop Totori from becoming a fan favorite (along with Escha & Logy), people LOVE Totori.
      So yeah, pick whatever you want, if you're scared of time limits, you can pick from Meruru onwards, but if not, you have even more options... also, if people started with Ryza, they have to keep in mind that Ryza is the different one, not the other way around (and mostly just the character interactions, everything else is pretty similar for the most part).

      Always love reading your comments! Very much appreciated!
      I think the problem I have with the deadlines specifically for Ayesha is that the reason for the game ending seems arbitrary. Had they said that the deadline was to ensure that we could still get back Nio, that’d be totally different and the urgency is justified. But we learn about things on the regular, even beyond school, so having the game end because of Keithgriff’s impatience (based off of the game’s normal ending as well) justifies the kind of negative attitude he’s directed towards everyone around him.
      I’m saying this more of clarification really than to negate your point. I’m glad you enjoyed the game, and heck - it hasn’t stopped me from pushing onward to the other Dusk games!
