    After playing 'Atelier Sophie' a couple of years back and falling in love with it I did a little digging into the Atelier franchise as a whole. The Dusk Trilogy was the one that I wanted too play the most; and I'm enjoying my time with Ayesha so far and can't wait too continue with this world. Before this release I've finished both the Mysterious trilogy and Arland trilogy as well as the newer games; to keep it brief the Atelier series has been my borderline obsession since booting up Sophie for the first time.

      I LIKED ALTERIER IRIS ON THE PS2. I AM NOW PLAYING ALTERIER SOPHIE. IT REMINDS ME OF ALTERIER IRIS. THE PART I DIDNT LIKE SO FAR IN SOPHIE IS THE CRITICISM ABOUT OVER WEIGHT PPL. I THOUGHT THAT WAS VERY DISTASTEFUL. APART FROM THAT I NEED AN ALTERIER GAME THAT HAS LARGE PRINT FOR MY EYES BUT I MAY NOT FIND ONE. THE OLDER GAMES HAD LARGER PRINT IT SEEMS. I HAVENT HAD MY PS4 ALL THAT LONG.

    Really glad the Atelier series is getting more exposure and attention from the gaming world. The games are so beautiful and engaging.
    Fantastic job on the review, as ever. I especially like how you compared how it differs from Ryza, for the players who started with the later games.

    The gameplay style and overall feel of the game definitely seems a lot different compared to Ryza but i am definitely interested in the trilogy ! You honestly do such a good job putting this series as a whole in the right spotlight and make it very appealing for first timers / returning players !
    I can see why you were given early review codes because you genuinely do it justice along with how informative and well put together your videos usually are : ) Keep up the amazing work Tara ! This will definitely join the backlog but looking forward to it.

    The atelier series is an interesting one as I started my journey with the Atelier Iris trilogy before going to mana khemia, and then the arland trilogy. This is actually the last game in the series that I bought before taking a break from the series (I believe it was the change of ownership to Tecmo Koei that caused me break). I really liked the world building in the first game though and have heard nothing but positive things about the two games after so looking forward to any review of them you might do. It might be just what I need to pull me back into the atelier games.

    While I started Atelier Marie, Atelier Iris, and Atelier Ryza before this, Atelier Ayesha was the first one I beat. It kept me interested the whole time, even when I misunderstood what I needed to do and wasted a bunch of time (still got a good ending). I loved all the characters and interactions and the plot and music and battles and gathering and synthesis. Just, really solid all around.

    Just but the Dusk Trilogy since it's on for 20% off as part of the spring sale being held on the Nintendo Switch. I've put a few hours into Ayesha and I'm having a lot of fun so far. I'm sure I've got lots to learn, but the characters are adorable, the music is great, and the art design is lovely, so it should all work out fine.

    I'm currently playing Rorona and Ioving it so far, I started off with Ryza and decided to play the older ones first, I even put Ryza 2 on hold until I get through them all.
    I'm going to go through all 4 Arland games then the Dusk and Mysterious trilogies. Never thought I'd like these kind of games cause they look a bit girly, but Ive been drawn in mostly by the artsyle, the crafting system is also addictive and the story / gameplay are just as good. I hear Totori has a harsh time limit which I cant say I'm excited for though lol

    Are the games in this trilogy related to each other or can you play one without playing the others? I'm interested in trying an Atelier game but don't want to buy several of them so am looking for one with an ending

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  3 года назад +1

      The games do relate to each other and Ayesha is the first in the Dusk trilogy :3 however all Atelier games are designed somewhat to be able to jump into them, especially with new protagonists in most games and especially the third games in each trilogy usually benefit from knowing the others cause a lot of characters come back :3 in saying that, my first Atelier was Lydie and Suelle, the third one of the Mysterious trilogy, and I’ve loved the series since :3 so if you have gameplay you like the look of from one of them, as long as you don’t mind missing a couple of details or backstories, I say go for it :)

  • @TheeDeathCaster
    @TheeDeathCaster 5 месяцев назад +1

    Which Atelier game do you recommend for newbies to start with first?

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  5 месяцев назад +1

      I’d probably recommend either the start of the Ryza trilogy, or the first game in whichever trilogy you think looks good :3 all the alchemy systems build on each other a little, but if you’re interested in modern Atelier, it’s easier to learn from Ryza (it’ll likely help you enjoy future entries quicker than having a learning curve)
      But I started with the 3rd Mysterious entry (Lydie and Suelle) and fell in love with the series, so whichever you think looks good is fine! Sophie can be good too (the first Mysterious game) as Sophie 2 is a new game, so you can get to know older and newer Atelier with a pretty modern way :3
      And if you don’t want to spend money, the smartphone Resleriana will let you know what the essence of the series is (console of course will be better, but it’s a good way to learn which characters you like :3)
      I hope that helps! Let me know what you try if you try the series! ^__^

    I have actually been playing through this game as my very first Altlier game and I do feel like I am wasting a lot of time moving about the map. I am just around january 10th and about lv 15. I have just been around the big market town progressing the game because I have no idea how much leeway I have in hard mode. i hope there is a way later on to make it so that i can visit the older places without losing a month of my time just traveling back and forth. I am still trying to get the hang of the synthesis system. I am the point of the story where I have to make like 70 different new items which I do not have currently.

    If only the difficulty curve of this game were more balanced, the crafting system didn't require constantly inverting and clipping traits, and that all materials didn't have hidden traits that you have to draw out, this would have been a lot higher on my list. I loved 90% of this game for it's characters and plot and visuals, though I found it overly easy even on hard mode from the beginning... all the way until the boss rush, where suddenly for the first time in the entire game up to that point, you actually have to use the convoluted synthesis system and be expected to know where all the materials are that have all the hidden traits that you need. Then, immediately afterwards, you are forced to grind a second time in order to beat the dragon to finish Keith's character line in order to get the true ending. That was too much for me. It wasn't the time involved, I beat the main line in just over a year of gameplay, I had time theoretically. Maybe if there were a proper database of what all the hidden traits were, and if the synthesis system didn't have that terrible invert-and-clip mechanic in it, I might have continued, but unlike every other Atelier game I've tried, there's no such data online to look up. This and Firis are the only Atelier games I didn't see the true end for, and Firis wasn't because I disliked it but rather just because I put it down for too long, after realizing that the post-game leading to the true ending was as long as the main game, and it felt awkward to pick up again a year later. Luckily, the next two systems didn't suffer from these flaws.

    Ryza is overrated. Its a great game, but too many people plugging it as a "savior of the franchise" when its a solid 7.5/10 is obnoxious. I'm not a fan of Ryza's mechanics. That being said, I love Ayesha a lot more. I haven't got started properly, but DX will be a great opportunity.

    • @junzeroni

      To be fair, I think a lot of people are calling it that because it sold a ton of units and brought the Atelier series a good deal of positive attention that didn't exist for the PS2/PS3 titles, regardless of how great those games were. To me, the Ryza phenomenon is fine because it will doubtlessly inspire a number of JRPG fans to dig into that lesser-known back-catalog, a ton of which is still easily available to play. I'm hopeful that the Ryza popularity (which has now led to a 3rd title being announced for 2023) will make Gust 'go big' with the series' 25th anniversary and see about remastering or reissuing the older titles like Iris, Marie, Mana Khemia, etc...

    This game was free on PS NOW, so I gave it a try during my Covid boredom and I absolutely regret it!
    *GOSH, THIS GAME IS A TOTAL DISPLAY OF EXCREMENTS!* - Seriously, if you're an adult, I admire you for your mental strength if you can go through even the first hour of this game without developing a chronic cringe resting face. The actions of the characters and dialogues are so random, childish and dumb, it seems it has been written by 12-year-olds. NOTHING MAKES ANY SENSE! It is like a Japanese opioid fever dream. I thought Tales of Vesparia was overrated and pandering to a very young audience, but this tops almost everything I have seen in the RPG world so far. Stay away from it if you can! This gives me PTSD!
