Tom, this is Floor before she had a breakdown, (or burnout) as she describes it.
After everything she invested in both After Forever and Revamp, the pressures of it all crashing down became too much for her.
There is a video of Floor talking to her fans about her burnout, and it melts your heart.
She is sad and broken, but starting to come out the other side.
Tuomas' call to help them out on the US tour came at a pivotal time.She was at her sister Irene's wedding when Tuomas called and 48 hours later was in the US to join Nightwish on stage.
She basically learned the setlist on the plane flights over.
Thus started the re-invention of the Valkyrie Goddess we all know and love today !! 😊😊

I agree that Tuomas perhaps is not a huge fan of that style, but he is also a surprises box because guess what... He is a member of a black metal band called Darkwoods my Betroothed 😂
Revamp stuck around for a couple years after Floor joined Nightwish, but it got to where she couldn’t do both.
That's Floor's sound. She had complete creative control in ReVamp, wrote the lyrics and the melodies for reVamp's music.

Before she was a Valkyrie goddess she was an angry tiger. lol. I really enjoyed watching your face during this reaction. It went from confusion, to surprise, to wonder, confusion, surprise, etc.
ReVamp doesn't exist anymore, Floor suffered a burn-out so she stopped everything. When Tuomas called about NW in 2012 it had been a year since the burn-out and Floor had just recovered from it. Cheers / B.
Although Floor suffered from burnout until August 2012, she was still in ReVamp after joining Nightwish until ReVamp broke up in 2016.

In an interview, Tuomas stated that he considered Floor after Tarja was fired but she and After Forever were just hitting the charts pretty high so decided it wasn't a good time. Revamp was Floor's band. She wrote most of the music, did everything to get the band selling records and that apparently was hard on her since it took only a few years of that to have a burnout. There was apparently enough music left over to put another album out in 2013 after she was asked to be the permanent with Nightwish. She also took Revamp on a short tour about that time to help sell some records. Then when the tour was over, she disbanded Revamp.
The pleasure of visiting the After Forever and ReVamp material is watching and listening to Floor's vocal style develop and her stage persona evolve. Both bands made quality music although very different in approach, you can also see the hard lesson the young Floor would learn about herself and how the mature voiced Floor we enjoy today preserves herself much more professionally. Fun reaction!
I love the angry Floor. And ReVamp is Floors Child 🤗😅 when you want hear hard lyrics from her with the Band( in her drepresion time). I lost Myself or Nothing.

You've heard Floor growl in Nightwish. In "Your is an Empty Hope" she does all the growling, remember? Also a bit of growling in "Ghost River", though not as extensive.
One of the reasons she hasn't done more, according to Floor herself, is that she is not very proficient with it. Imagine that...

Both Revamp albums are amazing, definitely worth a listen for a different side of Floor. Probably my most played Floor discography

If you want to listen to a song that would be me familiar to the Floor you are used to, then you might try ( Sweet Curse) by Revamp at the same Graspop cencert in 2010. Another great song written and sung by Floor.
THIS IS my favorite Floors era. Fierce, Power, "Angry"....
Nightwish at Wacken was also outdoors. And this Revamp was recorded only 3 years before that. I think the difference is just in the quality of the recording and mixing. Nightwish just had more money than Revamp to pay for higher quality. And this wasn't an audition for NW, Tuomas and the boys already knew Floor from touring with After Forever many years before this. If After Forever had disbanded around the same time Tarja was ousted I think Floor would have been their first choice.

Floor was friends with Tarja. Shes said before that she asked Tarja about it. She was prepared to say no if Tarja said no when NW called her to see if she would sub in for pregnant Anette in the South American leg of the tour.

@@petervanloon7308 Yes Nightwish called her a few months before to see if she was available to do the South American leg of the tour so Anette can go on maternity leave.( this was what set Anette off. she knew what was going to happen down the road and was irate) She was hesitant. She called Tarja and Tarja told her the issues bewteen the band and her were hers and it was a long time ago so go ahead if you want to do it. ... 3 months went by when she was at her sisters wedding and asked to come to Seattle in 48 hours. .... Also she was asked if Nightwish called her to join NW after Tarja would join? she has said no because of her loyalty to Tarja. ......This is what i gathered from many interviews shes given after Wacken13 with online Metal Mags and such.
@@paulriddle7818 So Floor was on Nightwish radar while Anette was still part of the band. They made the right move in an epic decision that changed Nightwish , all for the better. It's amazing. Thanks for taking the time to explain all that.

You heard Floor when she had full artistic control.
She was younger, full of energy and had a vision of symphonic metal different of Nightwish, heavier, more like Epica, I would say.
She started singing with After Forever when she was 16 while she was still in school. Revamp came next. There is some After Forever out there on YT, one when she was 21.
Tom's head just exploded. 🤣
ReVamp albums are definatly the heaviest stuff she's composed so far. She was coping with both the end of After Forever and her breakup with AF guitarrist Sander Gommans, who, according to some sourches, began a relationship with Amanda Somerville while still with Floor.
Plus she was probably already slowly sliding down her burnout period.
BTW Tuomas and the whole NW band knew Floor already back in early 2000's when Tarja was about to see herself without a job. Tuomas was thinking to ask Floor already back then, but After Forever had just gotten some publicity, so it never came to be. We needed Anette era and Floor's unfortunate burnout before our dream team was finally asembled.

Revamp is/was such a good band! I discovered it after Nightwish.
Dont loose the trail my friend. You need to watch more Revamp stuff. Floor look more free, satisfied and fierce. She is the Boss here, her lyrics are so fine and very powerful. Look for After Forever stuff too

One example of what happens should you mess with Floor: “This guy was just constantly shouting stupid stuff at me like "UH, BOOBS!’ & he would not shut up. Eventually, I just said: ‘Seeing as you have such a big mouth on you, why don’t you come and tell me all these things to my face after the show?’” Can you guess whether he had the courage or not?
Well i can say that not many guys can handle angry Floor. She is fearless and in VERY good shape. She could pick Emppu by his ear with one hand if she would had enough of Emppu's antics.
Yup. And I believe that was when she was a teenager. Certainly very young. She started out that badass.
Well, Nightwish is Tuomas with Floor's voice within the limits Tuomas sets. This is Floor as Floor, 100%, pure, no limits, no stops.

Tuomas was asked on tv during an interview right after she joined the band to stand in, right in front of Floor, was she your first choice? He gave a coy smile and said, "She was my first and only choice."

For every video like this you watch you get a better understanding of what people are talking about when they say "Floor can do anything" and "Other singers sing within this or that range, Floor sings whatever she wants".
Tuomas in Nightwish had his eyes on Floor already back when Tarja went away from NW, but asking Floor at that time would have required her to break up her own band and Tuomas didn't want to do that, so he waited up until 2012 when the second NW vocalist left.

This is pretty awesome. Her growling isn't as good as some of the newer female vocalists (Tatiana from Jinjer immediately comes to mind) but she can hold her own. I love how she goes right from growling into operatic stuff. Thank Odin for our Valkrie Goddess!

Fun Fact... The vocalist doing the male growls is Mark Jansen (no relation) who went on to form Epica with his then girlfriend Simone Simons who also was Floor's college roommate where they met and became best friends. It's just all one big happy family over there 🤘
Mark Jansen was never a member of Revamp. On the studio album he did grunts for one or two songs as a guest musician. In this video it's Revamp guitar player Jord Otto doing the grunts.

Everyone knows the angel Floor. The angelic song is sung directly from heaven by Floor. This divine Floor is known for this. But don't forget that Floor can also show a dark side: a side from the darkest caverns in the musical spectrum. That, too, is Floor. For this reason alone, Floor is a gift to humanity: an unparalleled talent in the vocal spectrum. I cannot think of anyone else, but no one else, who has mastered this entire spectrum at his or her fingertips like Floor mastered it.

Revamp released 2 albums before Floor decided to disband the project, due to the amount of time Nightwish started to take in her life. She knew she couldn't handle those 2 bands simultaneously.
The two discs are amazing, though very different from Nightwish (I think you can guess ;-) )

The blond hair was clearly dyed, considering the dark bits coming though. It did fit with everybody else in the band, though, which could well be why she did that 😀.
The difference is that Floor wrote the music for ReVamp, so wrap your head around the fact that this is the real Floor! Full-Metal Goddess...

It is also sound-technically a difference whether you give a concert day or night. In the evening, the sound is better worn. During the day you fight more against other sounds.

I am a doctor (NOT!) and I know what is going on. As the adult brain finds Floor in Nightwish, there is for some that experience an immediate feeling of comfort and joy. Followed by a hunger and desire for more. But this part of the brain that has been activated is still immature and needs time to develop. When in this early period you find performances that don't conform to your adolescent understanding, you may feel slightly disoriented. Fear NOT!. This syndrome will pass as you watch more After Forever & ReVamp. LOL!
I have heard Floor growl with Nightwish. You have not heard "THE" song yet. Checking your back catalog of NW reactions, no reaction to the song you have likely received 100's of requests to do, because it is the NW + Floor + Growling. But beyond a handful of moments, you are right, Tuomas is not going to call on her for growling like she did a decade ago. And Floor has addressed the subject with fans. Persistent growling takes great skill and she CAN do it, but at the expense of songs like GLS, suffering a little because of vocal fatigue. And non of her solo projects since going NW has she growled that I am aware.
Please check out After Forever "Dreamflight". I like to think that was her audition for Nightwish.

Just a point. Floor didn't audition for Nightwish. They wanted her for a long time because they knew how great she was, but couldn't get her. When the opportunity arose they came to her and asked her to help them, and the rest is history!!
