    According to Merriam-Webster, bemusement has three definitions:
    1: Puzzled, confused (Editing Jolly)
    2: Distracting the attention of someone
    3: Wry or "tolerant" amusement (Stream Jolly)
    So stream Jolly wasn't wrong when he thought bemusement meant "slightly amusing." It does, it just has other definitions as well

    • @redeye4516
      @redeye4516 3 года назад +36

      I'd guessed at definition 3, that's usually what I think of when I recall the word. Maybe a little better-natured than "wry" though, sort of like being amused by someone else's simpleness, such as seen in the video above.

    I didn't know what bemusement meant until this video, but by using context clues from how the map was I thought it meant "surprising" or "unexpected" rather than mildly interesting.
    Thank you for this bemusing and amusing video.
    Btw vent was sus.

    I think this video ends up illustrating the importance of denotation vs connotation. Denotation is the literal dictionary definition of a word, and as such (depending on your dictionary), stream Jolly is wrong. However, perhaps due to changing usage, I have personally found the word "bemuse" and its forms to carry a connotation, a *FEEL* akin to that of a minor amusement, or a comical/lighthearted form of confusion. Language changes constantly and there are undertones to every word and how they're used.
    (personally I think bewilder holds a more appropriate tone the mod, but may be too on the nose or strong a word)
