  • We follow the Banana Express from the coast at Port Shepstone up the hill to Paddock, hauled by NGG16A 155. On the return trip, 155 picks up 300t of timber in addition to the passenger cars.

The SA 2ft gauge is always of great interest. This brings back memories of riding the Banana Express back in 1985 behind No.88.I stayed at the Dawn View hotel, the line ran right passed so it was easy to watch the trains go by!.Alan.

@jayengee 155 was modified with a Lempor exhaust system and GPCS firebox, and other performance enhancing modifications that earned the NGG16A reclassification, not a reboilering per se.

Umm, yes it was. The bloke indulged in a fair bit of brandy and Coke during the lunch break at Paddock!

Was this the last steam revenue freight on the ACR?

I photographed steam freights there a few years later, but not sure when the last steam freights finished.

When did steam freight ended on the ACR?

Yeah, and thanks to a bunch of stupid goons the bogies of this locomotive 155 were scrapped in 2017, and now it will be rebuilt with the bogies of 141.
