- After an overnight ferry flight STL - JFK, was able to walk around Terminal 5 with the video camera in the wee hours of the morning back in August 2001. Bonus footage back in the alley at STL after the deadhead home. I miss those good looking planes!
Amazing seeing all those MD83s and 717s fill the tarmac. Even a DC9-30 if you look closely. T-Tail heaven.
This wonderful video shows 3 amazing things... The gorgeous TWA flight Ctr., a peacefulness we'll likely not see in any airport again, and an airline I flew, loved, and miss...
@ATCkeepsUsafe Hmm... Almost 17 minutes of wonderful material and all you were able to take away was that you don't like the video quality? I'm sad for you. I hope things get better... 😎
for better or for worse, the COVID-19 pandemic brought back that peacefulness to many airports around the world, albeit only for a short while
Thank you. We miss it too.
I remember when I was a kid I flew on twa to Florida
The peacefulness… What an astute observation. Very true.
The world changed forever a month later. So sad.
@ATCkeepsUsafe HAHAHA Good one!
Because we allowed it
I find it somewhat depressing that over the last decade or so, the airport terminals from the pre-9/11 world have been disappearing one by one, either demolished and replaced or renovated so extensively that they're unrecognizable from their former selves.
This is such a wonderful video, thanks for taking the time to not only take the video but to share it!
From a TWA brat, thank you. My father drove for them from 66 to 95.
Thank you.
Thanks for the memories. I used to work there when it was designated Terminal A.
It was a great ride, while it lasted.
Someone needs to bring back TWA as an airline, maybe to be America’s Emirates or Qatar Airways
Also one question, did they serve meals in coach on domestic flights after 1995?
A Budweiser delivery truck at 13:00 or so. Bet the passengers enjoyed that flight! Ha! Lovely video and brought back fond memories of one of my trips from JFK-FRA. Thank you.
That flight deck reminds me of when I stepped on one of Southwest’s last 737-300s back in 2015. No big screens or any fancy gadgets. I took one look at the flight deck when I was boarding and thought “holy s**t, this thing is still airworthy???” Sure enough, we made it to Denver safe and sound, and that plane was retired just a few months later. In hindsight, I should have appreciated flying on a piece of history more.
Thank you so much for posting this. Many is the time I flew out of JFK and/or through STL. Those last few months at JFK there was a sadness about the whole thing-empty terminal, a handful of flights, vendors with nothing to sell. TWA was such an iconic part of 20th century history and so many lives. What it stood for, its style, and its fantastic people are missed. It was so sad to see such grande dame bought by American of all carriers-the silver vulture with the hokey logo.
Thank you.
Brad Donnell never flew out of JFK but I did Fly TWA once on a 737 from DCA to STL then on a 747 from STL to Honolulu.
That was August 1996
Wow thanks for the memories. I was probably there that evening, “ frozen” on overtime. I can still make out some of my coworkers faces . I so loved TWA and that iconic building.
Thank you thank you. So many memories brought to life again.
2:54 love the Jethro Tull Muzak. Also, 9:44 is gate 27 TWA 800 departure gate.
Yeah, the elevator music "Thick As a Brick" sent me.
Thanks for posting this Mark!! Mostly flew from philly to st.Louis and on to Oklahoma City. Flew out of the JFK terminal 4-5 times to Las Vegas. What an amazing airline and the terminal at JFK was beautiful. So sad TWA had to stop flying....thanks for the memories, have a great day sir!!
Thank you.
Thank you for posting this. My Dad flew 707,s out of JFK. Captain W H Baumgartner 44-73. How I miss TWA.
Forever..That Wonderful Airline!
Back in the days of paper Jepp Charts 👍🏻 Love it!
I am glad the terminal is now the TWA hotel. It's an area I thought was going to be lost to time thanks to American's dismantling of TWA, but at least it's legacy lives on.
when stl was a busy place Miss the days of TWA
Thanks for the video! Weird to see it so empty for such a large hub, even at that hour.
Whoever taped this had no idea it would wind up on RUclips.
Good old analogue cockpits as you don't have to continually flick pages to get information !
Wow...that alley in STL was brutal!!
The great maddogs in there prime!!!!
I was there, F/O on the 717 out of STL at the time. Thanks for the great video memories!
I love this! TWA Flight Center Forever!
Thanks.
man KSTL used to pump'em out!
So many maddogs!!
Largest number of aircraft in our fleet.
A great time capsule. Thank you!
Great video! Got to fly through there in 1988. Fantastic.
Great footage!
There’s a similar structure in Turin, Italy, from the same era. Palazzo a Vela. I found the similarity interesting.
The best of time they were! I was a Flight Attendant for the then USAir… it was a blast !
miss TWA terribely. ticket counter people knew me from the constan flying out of JFK. nice people don't exsistt anymore when flying. thank you for the wonderful memories
Thank you for the kind words.
Now all the terminals at airports look alike. All the planes look alike, boring two engine wing mounted.
Wow you could just walk off the street an go straight to the gates. That seems so crazy to me.
Great Memories ....max from Italy!
Right after APA gave you guys the ole harpoon. 😢
Never got to fly TWA. Always wanted to, but was slightly too young to afford my own ticket.
Before everything turned to shit. Thanks for the memories.
That's a fact
Too bad carl icon DESTROYED this airline!! I just hired on with Trans States and was working out of B before the event happened.
That's correct.
23 years ago................😧
Been her many times. JfK to Frankfurt. TWA 747-100 . This was the 747-100 that eventually went down in Atlantic ocean unfortunately. TWA 747-100 FL_800
The majority of our 747's were the -100.
I especially enjoyed the TWA tea.
Any body has a video of.the embassadors club?
do you remember the kind of camera you used?
It was a Sony CCD-TRV65 Hi8 camcorder.
Thank you sir much appreciated @@markdobson8777
One day......I will reopen this company....Just one day.....
Thanks to Carl Icon, TWA is no more.
That's correct.
And now they make money off of it.
Hi Mark, I'm interested in using some of this footage in a documentary I'm producing. Would love to discuss! Please email me at oldfarmroadedit@gmail.com. thanks!
