What a fantastic renovation. They respected and preserved all the history behind the TWA terminal's original purpose. I will find a way to stay here some day.
My grandpa used to fly out of the JFK TWA terminal. He was a senior captain and flew all over till he retired shortly before they went bankrupt. Maybe his retirement package was the reason lol. Your video was well done, and loved the music. I so agree with you on the trash mat on the desk table. Tacky imo. Thanks for sharing ! Aloha from Hawai'i
These are the kind of comments I love to see on a video like this. Too many people just don’t understand the history in those (curvy) walls. Thanks so much for watching 🙏🏻
This Hotel is my idea of utopia! I could watch those birds for hours, Emirates is such a classy looking plane and was so thrilled you filmed it for us Av geeks! I have never ever heard of a garbage mat is that common in US hotels? What a ridiculous concept when 2 bins without liners clearly labelled do the exact same job 🙄. Your pencil dilemma 😆. I like the idea of a food hall, love the museum included and loved the vibe, ld stay for days. Thanks so much this is the best TWA hotel review lve ever seen 👍
24 Minutes in Heaven! Thank you for this footage and review! Those curves! That view! On my bucket list, though doubt I’ll get the chance so am glad I can live vicariously through people visiting and filming it. 😃 Thanks again 😊
kevin, you just said it so right: this is Disneyworld for all of us in love with aviation. Your review made me emotional. Thanks for the tour throughout this wonder. Cheers.
Awesome! Just learned about the TWA hotel around 9-months ago and, I will be checking in for a few nights sometime next Spring as a new retiree (smile...smile).
Perhaps the best twa hotel review video out there. I flew thru there back in 1999 & stayed in the hotel last summer. I loved it, though as a hotel it does have room to improve. Overall, you can't beat the history, novelty and convenience of it, especially if you're flying JetBlue.
Thanks very much for that! I think it’s best to look at this hotel the same way anyone would look at a hotel that’s perhaps in a place like Disney World. Is it overpriced? Yeah… Could the hotel services be better? Yeah… Could the full package experience be created anywhere else on earth? Not a chance! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I’m so glad I found your video. Number one I’m an MCM fan. Number two I’ve seen videos about the old TWA terminal ages ago but did not know it was renovated to a hotel recently!! Number 3 I’m looking over my flight itinerary from Portland Oregon to Atlanta Ga that’s in about a month and lo and behold I have a 2 hr 35 min layover at freakin JFK!! When I’ve done this flight before i usually layover in Minneapolis. I’m losing it!!!! Must book a day pass to that rooftop pool immediately!!! I’m so stoked about this I can hardly stand it!! Your thorough video was amazing and really got me pumped up for my visit! Will be there around 10 am on June 16. I’m walking outside to see that constellation plane too!! Wow!!!!!!!!!
Really a great review video. I stayed their with my partner for two days JUST as it re-opened from COVID lockdown. What we lacked in restaurants and bars we totally gained in almost having the entire place to ourselves and it was AMAZING. I used to fly out of the terminal in the late 80's/early 90's flying back and forth from college in Los Angeles - the plane was always a 747 and it was just a magical place . So great to see the building get a great new life.
Believe it or not; this building is actually 60-years-old this year! Glad to see the old flight center still standing and now occupied after nearly 20 years of it being abandoned.
Excellent video - thank you. Update about taking public transit to JFK - from Midtown Manhattan, it's easier and safer than ever - LIRR is now at Grand Central, with its own long awaited concourse. Just take it from GCT to Jamaica, grab AirTrain there. Also - for getting picked up or dropped off - even if checking out the hotel isn't in the cards, it's MUCH calmer and easier to use the hotel's driveway. And BTW, you expressed repeatedly how special this place is. I understood it intuitively even before going there once for a day visit in late 2019. Those are those who get it, and those that don't...
My Dad was a TWA pilot domiciled at JFK during the first years of my life. I have the vaguest of memories of the terminal, esp. the click-clack of the departure boards changing destinations and times. I'm thrilled they have restored it so nicely. It's a great tribute to when flying was something special, especially on TWA.
I am a Aviation Geek. I booked 3 nights Deluxe King Runway View. I can't wait to experience this hotel. Thank you for the great Video it encourages me to take in all the TWA Hotel has to offer.
I love your vids and reviews, been looking at your Thai ones for future reference. I fly into jfk t4 regularly and park right in front of this hotel and often point it out to my colleagues on the flight deck with particular note on the history of the main building. A definite bucket list item for me, one day.
A definite good choice for a layover or just a bit of a lazy arrival. I suggest going in the Summer so you’ll be able to catch more long haul traffic in the evening with sunlight. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Your first comment on this one! I grew up in NYC in the 60s and still remember when JFK was called Idlewild. As one approached the airport the highway lights got shorter and shorter and reminded me of ducks. Anyway... in my college years I used to go to the airport and hang out to watch the Concords and the IL-62s (Aeroflot) for the daily departures to London, Paris and Moscow. The main terminal destinations were the TWA and Pan Am terminals. But of course the TWA was most stunning especially with those magic portals. And about 1978 my wife's sister immigrated to the US from Vietnam arriving at the TWA terminal on a snowy day in November being the first time she ever saw snow. Fast forward to 2019 I was in the area to do the paperwork for medicare as I was turning 65. I was planning on celebrating my 65th birthday at the TWA hotel with a lunch and a visit to the Connie as I have always loved that plane which I still remember growing up in Queens near Laguardia. By the way... those four giant rotary piston engines make a totally different sound from turboprops. I was incredibly lucky to experience that sound in 2014 taking a flight on a B24 (WWII heavy bomber) as tribute to my father who flew missions on them during the war. Sadly... those planes are no longer flying and there are few if any large rotary piston planes flying at all. Anyway, I could not make that lunch since I fractured my ankle a few days before that birthday. I am now back at my home in Vietnam since the beginning of the pandemic and I have no plans to travel since I need to be near my pets and will not risk being stuck away from them. I will be traveling through your lens and those of other vloggers.
I hope when we start building spaceports we will return to this kind of aesthetic. I love retrofuturism and that style seems perfect to rocket launchpads that will make the dreams of the future come true
Never knew it was a landmark building that explains why it was not demolished with the rest of the iconic JFK terminals, ex PanAm. Noticed the room prices are very high; especially for an overnight stay. I do recall there was another TWA terminal behind the iconic wing building, but I guess it was demolished, too. As you mentioned in your presentation, you don't need to book a room to experience the building and the amenities. Too bad Connie was not open. Great presentation. Thanks for sharing it on RUclips.
I'm so delighted to watch this video. I'm staying at the hotel this coming Sunday July 14! Thank you as it is such a cool place and this gives me the lay of the land. I also booked a deluxe king with historic TWA runway view❤ I was just in Dubai flying on Emirates which also made me smile😊
I loved this video. Thank you so much. It was comprehensive, music was great and your comments spot on. This hotel is on my bucket list. I’m going in October 2022. Can’t wait. I also subscribed because I enjoyed this video so much. Keep up the great work!
I recall the main entrance and check in area and was enthralled by the tube on my way to boarding one of the first B747 flights to LHR in November 1970. . Incidentally George Harrison and his then partner Patty Boyd were on the same flight.
WOW!!! ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE VIDEO!!! The quality, direction as well as the information was spot on!!!! When would you say were the best times that had the least amount of people when you were there? I would love to shoot some photos there!
Just my guess but I think it’s much more about the season than the time of day. If I went back I’d go in a warm shoulder season- maybe May or September when it’s warm enough to enjoy being outside but too cool to attract hundreds to the rooftop pool. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I'm headed up to NYC this coming November and I've booked two nights! Deluxe King w/runway view... thanks so much for your video - I am so looking forward to my visit! I want to see and experience it all... and I don't care about the prices. It will be worth it to me - I've been looking forward to staying here for years!
Not that they should be able to charge whatever they want- but to anyone that says “the price doesn’t matter” about this property will surely enjoy the experience. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Awesome video! I'd definitely pay the price just for the experience:) May I ask what tool/program you use for the animations in the opening of this video? I'd love to be able to do stuff like that with maps and shapes for my job! Thanks:)
For me mem although I love the vibe, since I don’t travel or take overseas holidays often, staying at or near the airport would be so depressing since it’ll constantly remind me of going back home (even though I love planes and airports)
Kevin: Don’t be surprised if the Hanna-Barbera cartoons “The Jetsons” were inspired by that beautiful TWA airport hotel terminal(looks exactly like the Jetson’s house, including furniture and everything). “The Jetsons” went officially on the air September 23,1962 after the hotel/terminal was officially opened. That amazing TWA terminal and those cartoons were both ahead of their time no doubt. By the way, The Jetsons and Dick Tracy were the first one’s doing FaceTime video conferencing to communicate with each other. Science fiction back then, reality today.
Thank you for showing a general plan indicating where the rooms are and how many. And where the hotel is into the airport. And where the airport is related to Manhattan. I read many descriptions and reviews and videos, and none of them mentioned these points.
Cool. But I would have loved some plane noise.. making it even cooler… this is why I like hotels in Heathrow on Bath road - view and noise))) PS. Thanks for another great review
This place is a time capsule it's designed the same exact way that airports were designed back in the 60s and 70s it still has the rotator boards for the flight schedule instead of all the flat screen monitors we have now in airports awsome place you don't see anything like this no more.

Hi there, l need your help with something random as lve seen you mentioned you are in the industry. My issue is lm often needing to book hotels and staying in separate rooms with my parents that lm hosting as a gift for the stay, put clearly l don't want them to know the cost of the stay, yet in every Hotel on the TV screen is "Guest services" then "your account" which dutifully has listed deposit, room rate and dining that is charged to the room costs. For the life of me despite asking for this to be removed at least in my parents room it is impossible to do so, lve explained its a gift and l do not wish them to be privy to the cost but l can't get it removed. Is there literally no way to remove this at all as lve been informed repeatedly? I've addressed this prior to my stays and on arrival in all our stays, the last one even told me no no it's not on the TV "we don't do that" ok that's great, went to their room and there it was! Went back to reception to notify them and blank stares l was met with let me see if l can fix it, she simply added my Mums name to the account😆 l gave up. Can you please inform me of what l might be doing wrong or if it is genuinely impossible to remove? I know this might sound odd but l really need help, l have 2 more stays upcoming Park Hyatt and Sofitel and ld love to have this resolved. 🙏
I typically prepay for all of my rooms and rarely book directly with the hotel. In room charges during the stay I couldn’t tell you how to hide from the TV bill if they were really trying to see it. But I can say for certain that my room rate charges are absolutely never on my room bill as the transaction isn’t actually with the hotel at all.
@@tfft Did end up staying and loved it! Your music is on point. Loved exploring the hotel, it was pouring rain in December but they played 60s xmas music and we explored it all and got some souvenirs to boot. Bonus, my sister and I remember it from our childhoods as the TWA terminal. PS I brought target bags for my garbage thanks to your video.
had the exact same room there when i came to JFK in June. the windows were filthy on the outside so all of my photos were not so nice looking out onto JetBlue. i have 20 pencils since there was nothing else in the room to speak of. im a long fan of TWA and worked for them in st louis when i was young enough to do ramp baggage duties.flown through there a few times but mostly just changed planes and didn't stay. I liked the way it stayed true to its roots but i didn't like the price of a room for what you actually get
Although funny, the trash mat exsits because its law to recycle in NYC and they can techinically be fined by the city if the recyclables and regular trash arent separated properly when they dispose at their dumpsters. This is here to make it easier for the roomservice to separate those items. Since recycling isn't mandatory in many places this is why this is here to remind you where to put the appropriate trash. Be a bro.
I mean, I get it… but I’ve stayed in a dozen hotels in NYC in the past couple of years and have never seen such a thing. Can’t understand why a recycling bin (on the ground) wouldn’t be just as effective. Heck, you can put the recycling bin on the desk… it’d still be more sanitary than the mat :) Thanks for watching 🙏
@@tfft I agree the counter placement where you place food is not the best choice. This was my first watch and loved it! I look forward to booking there sometime in the early fall season for fun.
Yes I’d say somewhere around September would be the best time to avoid the peak crowds but still get a good chunk of daylight in the evenings. Hope you enjoy!
It’s really sad just shabby this place has gotten since the pandemic… it was fairly nice back when it first opened, but it getting rather run down these days. It’s certainly nothing to brag about.
Beautiful. Too bad they couldn't " snatch " a 747 repainted at one of Rte gates and use that as well with original 1st Class seating ,up front,a bar/lounge upper deck and passenger seats on either side with restaurant service within the center of the cabin, front to back . But maybe,WHO KNOWS? Perhaps someone with "deep-seat " pockets who loves this idea would pursue it?🤔☺️
im from stl and my first flight to mexico was TWA when i was around 8 years old. when i got older and out of the army i worked for TWA as a bag loader and got out before the sell off of inventory and collapse of the company. i still love and collect TWA stuff now. the hotel reminds me of the old st louis terminals with the red tunnels and had to finally go to it on my return to the us this year.
Horrible experience!!! No signs warning or easy understanding regarding how to move where to go etc !! Cold ambience and nasty customer service !! The usual arrogance of who is in charge of helping but expect that ppl know everything and everywhere!!!!!
What a fantastic renovation. They respected and preserved all the history behind the TWA terminal's original purpose. I will find a way to stay here some day.
Please do! It’s worth every penny. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
That wind effect over the pool is amazing. Adds just that much more coolness to the already spectacular sunrise. 🌅

Excellent videography and detailed narration: best vid review seen of this hotel by far.

One of the most iconic, beautiful & cosy buildings in the world!
Cozy is a stretch haha- iconic for sure!
Excellent video - thank you. Update about taking public transit to JFK - from Midtown Manhattan, it's easier and safer than ever - LIRR is now at Grand Central, with its own long awaited concourse. Cool. But I would have loved some plane noise.. making it even cooler… this is why I like hotels in Heathrow on Bath road - view and noise))) PS. Thanks for another great review
Plane noise in the video? (Or…in the room?)
@@tfft (some) noise in the room like, for instance, in Renaissance on Bath Road new LHR…
Dope!

Is it Free to plane spot at The TWA and can people plane spot instead of staying the night
No definitly not free to access the roof, but last I knew of they sold day passes. Thanks for watching 🩴
This place is a time capsule it's designed the same exact way that airports were designed back in the 60s and 70s it still has the rotator boards for the flight schedule instead of all the flat screen monitors we have now in airports awsome place you don't see anything like this no more.

hello, could I use clips from your video to make an analysis video on the design?
All of my videos have a standard RUclips license that allow embedding. Other uses are forbidden without prior consent and licensing. If you're interested licensing, please contact me at theflipfloptraveller@gmail.com
The setting for this is my birth year 1962 which also is the setting for the movie American Graffiti

Hopefully staying here in December.
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

I liked the way it stayed true to its roots but i didn't like the price of a room for what you actually get
Yes I agree especially these days the pricing- for an independent hotel not listen on any other sites- is absurd. Thanks for watching 🩴
After landing Delta, grabbing luggage .... Can you just simply walk from terminal 4 to the TWA hotel ?
In theory yes but it would be much easier to take the air train. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
They literally want you to take all the pencils, it’s a complimentary gift, and hotel employees take it as an insult if you don’t take them all.

Perhaps things have changed recently, but I was there in November 2021 and thought the space was spectacular. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I've been influenced.

If I ever happen to be in New York City or at JFK for a layover I would like to stay at that hotel my only regret is that I never flew on TWA
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
im from stl and my first flight to mexico was TWA when i was around 8 years old. when i got older and out of the army i worked for TWA as a bag loader and got out before the sell off of inventory and collapse of the company. i still love and collect TWA stuff now. the hotel reminds me of the old st louis terminals with the red tunnels and had to finally go to it on my return to the us this year.

Can we stay in the lounge for free?
It’s a public bar, you’re welcome to go in and have a drink.
Oh so it opens 24/7?

Horrible experience!!! No signs warning or easy understanding regarding how to move where to go etc !! Cold ambience and nasty customer service !! The usual arrogance of who is in charge of helping but expect that ppl know everything and everywhere!!!!!
What kind of warning signs were you expecting? 😂
