  • Today we take a look at R-Model metal track links. These are surprisingly good, and given the cost of Friulmodel tracks, R-Model is an increasingly attractive option. The detailed metal pins are also great.
    R-Model on Ebay:

There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. BNA online hobby shop stocks over 200 types of the R-Model tracks, but only one type - Tiger Early mirror tracks - come with two different short pins per link. The rest are just single pins.
      Do the pins fit tightly, and do they have unique detailed heads ? - the pictures do not show.
      And what about the other side? What to put there?

    Ordered their Hotchkiss H39 tracks for the Trumpeter kit, looking forwards to getting them in. I didn't go with pins though, as going by the rubber tracks in the kit, the pins are absolutely tiny- the included wire should suffice, and the thought of possibly losing one of those microscopic pins is nightmarish!

    Thanks for the review. Definitely worth considering.
    It's the measuring and cutting of the wire (plus removing flash and drilling) that takes the time with the Fruils. I imagine these pins are sturdy enough to force through anyway if any of the holes were a bit flashed/mis-shapen.
    That said, I have started to use pins with the Fruils, which works so long as you're prepared for bits of pin pinging everywhere when you cut them, if you're not careful.

    So far, the tracks are going together really nice. 38 track pieces put together so far. Much better option than putting together the plastic, 6-piece track links that come with the kit. I’ll get a few of them put together on the side and make it into replacement tracks for diorama purposes.

    I love R-Model tracks, great quality for a good price. They used to come with the pins you bought in that box there. At least mine did. Looks like they decided to sell that separate and give you a metal wire you have to cut instead. People still have that mindset of China producing only cheap quality stuff. But in reality, they are probably one of the most advance manufacture of goods (imo). I don't consider them to just be cheap now.

    My grandfather drove a tank in the first ever tank battle at Fleurs on the Somme. I’m a scale aeroplane balsa modeller but I would like to make a plastic static model of my grandad’s tank (male). I’d like it to be no smaller than 6” , so was wondering which would you consider to be the best kit?

    Thanks for the posting!!!
    I have been seeing these on E-b, for a little while and wasn't sure how "good, these Chinese products are...", but this is my 2nd video I have seen about these 'R-Model' metal tracks.
    Compared to 'Friulmodel' and 'ModelClub', it looks Really good!!
    'ModelClub' is a ruSSian product, and though it has pins for those tracks, I don't know when they will be producing anymore. And as for 'Friulmodel' is a Hungarian product, but seem to be low in production as well.
    Just curious how they work if you "blacken" / weathered those tracks by burnishing them??? But I am curious, do those pins, especially the one you showed on this post....do they work on Any other tracks?????
    Again, thanks for the posting!

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  Год назад +1

      Hello, thank you for the question. You can use blackening fluid on these and it also works on the pins. Just be careful since when you sand the tracks after blackening to simulate the bare metal on worn edges, if you sand the pins they will show brass colour which isn't right.
      Friulmodel is self-distributing now, so no longer supplying stores and retailers with the product. You have to buy directly from them. That's why they're hard to find now.
      The pins from these tracks can work in some other tracks but not all. It depends on the size of the hole. So, smaller tracks might not quite work with these pins.

      But, do you know IF, 'R-Model' M113 kit has pins?? I was looking at their E-b site and it says "pins" but show the wire.......do you know??

    Do you think that the R-Model pins would be compatible with Friul tracks as an alternative to wire?

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  4 года назад

      No. The pins are only half the width of the track, so you have to use one pin in each side of the track. Friuls can only be pinned from one side as they have molded detail on one side of the track. So you would only have a pin halfway through the tracks which would start to make the tracks curve. Unless of course the Friuls you are pinning are small like Panzer II tracks or something.

  • @ytwos1

      DHL shipping to where I live is ridiculously expensive. I've ordered from BNA but using a much slower carrier for that reason.

    annoyingly they don't appear on ebay.co.uk but do on .ca or .com

    • @fraglast6809

      morssdn They are there. But they’re pricey. £29.99 for Tiger tracks, plus £18.99 for the track pins!
      I searched for R model metal track 1/35. There were plenty to choose from. Worried that you may also get stung by customs etc, thereby making them superbly expensive. They do look nice though.

      Ah well bound to be somewhere on eBay. I meant they weren’t in the shop Evan referred to, as seen on eBay U.K. . The prices you mention look cheaper than the $ prices on the linked site though. I presume that you don’t absolutely have to get the pins, just use wire, the pins being a refinement.

      If you're interested in King Tiger there is a set of R Tracks inc pins for £23!

    Hello, I am a Chinese. The metal track quality of this brand is still acceptable, and there is also a brand in China that produces zinc alloy tracks. It is harder than lead-tin alloy tracks and more environmentally friendly. Moreover, that brand uses real rubber to restore real shoes. I have bought FM tracks before, and to be honest, it is really disappointing, and there is no comparison with Chinese brands.
