If your software is not mature anyhow then adding OTA to the situation can make it worse - e.g. if the OTA isn't reliable you can "brick" the device. It is all simply a problem of trying to compete with fancy software features and not investing enough time and energy on the basics. Those people in charge of the launch of the car probably did not consider releasing without the snazzy graphics or cutting out features like maps or whatever. They spent time and money putting all that stuff in so it would look like it was great and check a checkbox but not enough time on the boring parts underneath of which a reliable OTA system is one thing.
@@Gaja9314 Indeed, it's been there forever. Meanwhile all cars have software but few have OTA.. It can be the difference between recalling cars and just push an update.

This proves that OTA are not a gimmick but a necessity when bringing a software defined car on the market.

Of course updating kernel may fix issues with 4G connectivity :) Anyway, I understand that was still too early to dig dipper into the scope of update ;)
Ideally this would be OTA upgradable too - if one was really going to do things thoroughly.
Why did you not went back immediately and asked them to fix the 4G?
Because hes got other things to do!?

For the later OTA-updates you can use your WLAN at home. I got it working no problem.
