@@kellyreed8714 That’s amazing. When ‘Time odyssey’ came out 88? Nobody knew Vinny Moore. Except guys I jammed with. I seen Vinny Moore show once back in 93? ‘Meltdown tour (I forget the name that album, released long before that show, Like years? ) There was maybe 30 people in club. Most of em club regulars. Didn’t know who Vinny Moore was. After couple songs they were standing in front of stage. Back then most people never seen guitar players like that.. I wanted to see ‘peices of a picture’ or anything from ‘Time odyessey. They didn’t play anything from (time odyessey) that was my only complaint. But that show turned out to be great night.

I remember getting that album as it came out...man, the 80s was such an awesome time to be a young guitarist working on improving as a musician, it felt like every week someone new appeared with even more inspiration. Vinnie, Marty, Jason, Greg...so many incredible players who kicked my arse and made me get better. Thanks for posting this :)

Exactly the same for me. I read an interview with Vinnie in UK Guitarist magazine at the time and had to buy his album. It blew my brains out! That album and the Randy Rhoads Tribute LP are the ones that started it all for me.

I often forget there are other guys and gals just like me out there that share the experience of growing up idolizing all those players you mentioned. Sometimes it feels like nobody cares or remembers these icons and how important they have been in people’s lives. Vinnie literally shaped me as a guitar player. I would never ever claim I’m remotely comparable to Vinnie don’t get me wrong, but I’m so glad I had, WE had, musicians like this to inspire us through our lives. We love ya Vinnie!!!

Vinnie is great - like many others, I'm a fan from the beginning. I got to meet him on the tour he did with Gus G. - great show, and Vinnie was hilarious and charming like he is here. He was out in the street clowning around after eating dinner before the show. EDIT: Vinnie has elements of Japanese metal in his playing as well, and that is a group of players that don't get mentioned as root influences enough - Akira Takasaki and Yuji Adachi from Dead End are big ones for me. Anthem is another one.

"MInd's eye" is my favorite album by VM and was such a huge inspiration to me when it first came out
in the 80's along with Tony Macalpine's "Maximum Security". Those were the best of times for me as a guitar player
because all of the shred style was so new and fresh. back then. These days it is nothing to see kids flying up and down the neck.
I hate to say this but seeing/hearing VM here is kind of depressing for me only because of how many years have passed
and how long ago this tune was originally played by him. While he is still a great player this does not have the fire and aggression
that the youthful Vinnie Moore had in the 80's.

In the digital age of sharing videos people think prodigies are some sort of new phenomenon. But most of these guys were that good as kids, too. They just didn’t record until they were adults, obviously, as they have to be legal age to sign a contract. But Malmsteen was already a shredder as a young child, and there is video of Becker doing Malmsteen covers in high school. Batio was another one. You have to remember, all these guys debuted in their late teens or early 20’s within just a few years of each other, which means all of them were playing stuff near this level in their bedrooms as teenagers. It wasn’t like Yngwie came out and suddenly everyone learned to play fast, they were all mostly at that level already.

The more I've listened to him over the years the more I've realised how musical his compositions actually are - 'beyond the shredding' if you like. The Maze is my favourite. And so much mileage out of a more basic type of tone too. A good example of it being 'all in the fingers' - keep goin' Vinman - there's so much left to gift!

So glad you’re still playing. I had Mind’s Eye and played the hell out of it. Great performance here. I also have the hot licks VHS tape.
