      This is my absolute favorite scene of the film. Obviously I love so many different bits from this film, and have seen this movie so many times, but when he cries here, I always cry. You really feel how much he loves his daughter. Donald was such a seasoned actor and he really made me love this film that much more. I will cherish this scene even more now.

      @@kaitlynr9271 Oh my gosh, me too. I find this scene so emotional. I lost my dad almost two years ago and this really gets me. Such a beautiful way to end the film (as originally intended).

      @@joyegreg I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s interesting bc people crap on this movie in comparison to the mini series. I loved the mini series (getting many hours of this world is so amazing) but you cannot deny the deep-felt performances by the actors and cinematography Joe Wright and his team created. I can see why losing your dad would make this scene all the more poignant. I don’t have a relationship with my dad, so maybe that’s part of why this scene deeply moves me. Just unselfish love.

      @@kaitlynr9271 Yes, whether you didn't get the dad you wanted or you did, either way this scene goes right to the heart. He loves his daughter the way we'd all like to be seen and loved. I'm so glad this scene got so much attention as we honored Mr. Sutherland's passing. Best to you.

      Есть ощущение, что именно глубое чувство семьи нравилось мистеру Дарси в Элизабет. Она пришла пешком к своей больной сестре, она переживает за не должное поведения отца , матери и сестёр на балу, она переживает за Лидию, она отказывается от брака с Дарси, после того, как он разрушил брак её любимой старшей сестры. Мне кажется этот отказ стал большим плюсом к образу любимой Элизабет, и не оскорбил Дарси. Он очень скучал по семье после ухода из жизни его отца. Он искал её, именно такую умную, добрую и верную. Так я увидела этих двоих в экранизации 2005 года, и мне это очень нравится.

      the casting director said that when he chose which actors to hire, he based "families" on which actors had similar mannerisms, as though they had grown up together.

    • @antigonesmith9781
      @antigonesmith9781 6 месяцев назад +35

      Actually, the story is told in an interview that Donald Sutherland was quite conscious of his teeth, and brought his hand to his mouth on occasion. Both Kiera and Rosamund noticed this and took the mannerism for their characters. Mr. Sutherland was quite touched by the gesture.

    I love this ending so much. Mr Bennet's approval is as important as the match - not just because of social mores, but because he adores Lizzie so much and knows her so deeply, that we know his approval means they are perfect for each other, otherwise he wouldn't approve. Donald Sutherland's performance is moving and wonderful - so beautiful to see a man be so blissfully happy for his daughter that he's moved to tears, mixed in with the sadness of "I won't get to see her every day". I also love that this ending leaves us hanging in anticipation (we never get to see Darcy and Lizzie kiss) - it leaves us excited for what's to come. The alternate ending is cute but too neat - this one has my heart.

    There's an important element in this scene that was missing in P&P 1995: Lizzie explains (off-camera) what Darcy did to secure Lydia's marriage and we get to see the father's reaction "Good Lord, I must pay him back." That was a huge omission in 1995.

    • @catgladwell5684
      @catgladwell5684 10 месяцев назад +18

      it really was. And it omitted one of Mr Bennet's famous comic lines "I will offer to pay him, he will rant and rave about his love for you and that will be the end of it". Benjamin Whitrow would have done that little scene so much justice. I think it's the one and only fault in the otherwise perfect 1995 P&P.

    I didn't like this rendition of "Pride and Prejudice". It played too much like a gothic story: dark, grim and serious.
    The book portrays the dad as a deliberately obtuse dad who had a jovial nature, which allowed him to tolerate and, yet, appreciate his wife's foibles and Lydia's flightiness.
    Read the book....
