Thanks Lucian! This was really enjoyable to work on and the desert weathering was new to me but I'm happy with how it turned out. Next I plan to add three Panzer IIIs 😃👍
Thanks Cal! I think sometimes desert basing can be a little tricky but the cork really does work as an effective basing material. Bit of drybrushing and tufts certainly adds to it 😃👍
Well it was well worth it. Cracking force. Looking at your video has made me want to revisit my 15mm Desert forces. I was using some British trucks for part of my DAK but will nick your idea and add a Matilda. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that 😃
Thanks Paul, much appreciated mate! Definitely agree, I find the idea of painting a standard reinforced platoon quite dull and would much prefer a themed campaign platoon like this 😃👍
This army looks great! I’m assembling an Italian army which I’m not sure whether to paint them for North Africa or the Eastern Front. This video is pushing me in the North Africa direction though - very inspirational!
Thanks Jonathan and apologies for the delay in responding! That's a tough decision but I would say that I really enjoyed working on a desert themed army as it really made me think more about uniforms, colour schemes and basing. With Warlord Games' new plastic Italians though, I think I'll definitely be doing a desert force 😃👍
Thank you, much appreciated! I definitely want to add to my DAK over the next few months but that 8th Army project is definitely calling me. Good luck with your DAK 😃👍
@@OnPointHQ my mega 8th army showcase: ruclips.net/video/E9B9AGoV2Bs/видео.html, there are 4 video’s covering British, Commonwealth, Indian and LRDG/SAS... your army showcases are always so inspirational that it helped me with my project, hope you like them!
Fantastic looking force ste, I really like the captured allied vehicles. As far as I know the Germans captured a lot of universal carriers at Dunkirk so entirely possible the Germans would use them
Thank you! Yes, a lot of the research photos I found were from Dunkirk. I really like the idea of using captured vehicles and when I found the list allowed me to take a Matilda I knew I had to have one 😃
Really enjoyed your DAK and SAS videos - keen to know more about how you do your cork bases?? Very impressed and would like to try myself. Could you share how you do this?? Cheers
Thanks Darrin! I've used prone figures in the past but I really don't like them in infantry squads as it ruins the overall look. Glad you like the armies, I think kitbashing can really change the dynamic of an army 😃👍
Great collection with all the personal touches, kitbashes, and captured equipment. Normally I love metal figures but I have to agree Warlord’s undersized crews noticeably don’t match their own infantry scale!
Cheers and definitely agree about the metal crewmen! I first noticed this when I was working on my winter US Airborne and the size difference between the metals and plastics was very noticeble. It takes a little bit of time to do but is definitely worth it in the end 😃👍
Fantastic looking army, Ste! Loved the captured vehicles. I'm not a fan of the metal crews too much either. 10000% agree on prone guys, or as I call them 'casualty number 1'. Side rant: why has Warlord been doing their German MGs prone or slung? We want them blasting from the hip screaming decked out in ammo belts....well, I do anyways. lol.
Cheers James, much appreciated! I've mentioned it a few times but as soon as I get a new weapon team, the first thing I do is look to replace the crew with plastic equivalents. It can be time consuming but definitely worth it. Ha! I definitely know what you mean, I think we'd all like a few more Rambo poses 😃👍
Welcome to the world of Bolt Action! The Gentleman's War box is an excellent start and will really get you used to the Bolt Action rules. After this, just make additions where you need and you'll very soon have quite a sizeable army. Good luck with it all 😃👍
Great video as always and another beautiful looking army. I was wondering if you did any commission work as while I enjoy playing and researching for BA I really don't enjoy the building or painting side of the hobby?
Thanks Daniel, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I've never really done any commission painting because I paint for pleasure and would probably find it difficult to hand the figures over! If you're looking for a good commission painter, check out my mate Shaun at Metal Mercenaries 👍😃
@@OnPointHQ I will have to have a look. If you ever do consider it please let me know as your kitbashes really give great personality and uniqueness to a force. Plus if you ever want to see your Polish Paras I may be your man 😂
Thanks Dario! No, the turrets are glued in place during assembly as I don't really like moving parts on any of my models. The same goes with elevating the barrels, I always glue this in place too 😃👍
@@OnPointHQ The Same with me. I like to glue on things. Or at least like when they are Moving slowly and with a certain umphff... Don't like loosy goosy stuff.
Been out this last week visiting the local sites and have found a number of German vehicles. Nice to see the cork is back. And the plastic crews look great. Do you have a game lined up to use them yet?
That sounds like an interesting way to spend the week Leslie. Thank you, I just think there is so much scope for creativity when it comes to weapons team crews. I could have a very small game using my desert SAS but I'm definitely going to start an 8th Army project 😃
I’m painting up an Afrika Korps force atm. Can I ask what’s paints you used for the infantry’s jacket (pale green) and the trousers (desert yellow. I really like your paint scheme.
Sure thing, no worries! For the jacket I use Vallejo Russian Uniform Green. Rather than apply a wash to the whole jacket, I mix up a 50:50 black and Sepia wash and apply this to all the folds and recesses. For highlights I add a small drop of Khaki to the Russian Uniform Green and hit the more raised areas. For the trousers, I use Vallejo Khaki and just like the jacket, use the same black and Sepia wash in the recesses. To highlight the trousers, I add a small amount of Vallejo Off White to the Khaki. Hope that helps 😃👍
I've currently got one planned that focuses on some of the different basing styles I use for my Bolt Action projects. Just need to find the time to film it but it will be coming 😃👍
@@OnPointHQ cool cause I am trying to get ideas for a sicily base in July 43 operation husky. Also for your dak army what colors did u use for the y straps, belt, and boots. My army is Herman goring division in Sicily battle of biazza Ridge.
No, not at all. There are no rules to how you should go about collecting things or how you choose to build your armies! I only work on projects like this as I'm more of a painter than a gamer so I can spend more time on it. Keep doing what you're doing 😃👍
@@OnPointHQ o I know. But my idea of planning a project is buying everything used in theater. I have poor impulse control.... much like Rommel himself. Lol.
Nice work on Dak Ste, inspiration for my future dak flames of war. Nice looking captured Matilda and carrier.

Some beautiful work there Ste. Love how your cork bases make it look like younust plucked them out the ground, topsoil and all.

nice list there! I enjoy your kitbashing and repurposing captured AFV's
Cheers buddy! I always wanted to include a few captured vehicles in the list to give it a bit of a unique look 😃
Beautiful army! Honestly seeing all the kitbashes and conversions just makes me wish there was more of it.
Thank you! I definitely plan to add a few more bits and pieces to this over the next few months 😃👍
Really enjoyable showcase. Lot of work gone in to make a unique force. Great work.
Thanks Andy! It wasn't until I was making the video and looking at the models again that I realised just how much time I'd sunk into this project 😃👍
