I have one of those ink pens too and I was immediately put off by it but now I really want to try it! Love how the crosshatching looks on the bird ahhh and yes it totally makes sense that you don’t have to practice one particular thing to get good at it, you’re definitely always improving and learning no matter what it is you’re practicing :) looooove the Maleficent one 😍

Right? I’m so inspired by these talented people but it’s just not happening. There has to be a special technique to learning how to draw that works
Woah woah woah slow down. No need to come to such conclusions. Start out small and easy. Use references a lot and draw what you want to draw. Even if it turns out bad, you've learned something.
Focus on one skill at a time. Shape, proportions, shading, color. If you try to get a grasp on them all you'll just get frustrated.
Most important of all, don't let a few bad drawings discourage you. It's disheartening, I know, but if you give up after them you'll never get to the amazing picture waiting for you in the future.
And most importantly- have fun! Drawing is a hobby, not a chore!

As a chronically ill person myself I’ve found a lot of joy in watching your videos. I stopped drawing things years ago. Started doing brush lettering recently as something that doesn’t require a crazy amount of energy and provides some stress relief. Now seeing your videos I think I’m ready to get back into drawing. Thank you for that☺️

I've also had to drop things due to chronic illnesses, including major creative things. Finding art videos - including Waffles of course - has helped me a lot. I can't write a lot or make books and other things anymore, but I have learned a few things about art and try to just do some doodles and goofy sketches. I got into coloring just as the adult coloring books were becoming a thing, so I spend time on that when I can. Brush lettering seems really cool - not something I can manage right now, but I'm really glad you found something new and artistic that you can do. 💜

Fellow spoonie fan here too :) I watch a lot more Rin than I draw... but I have been able to draw a little over the last couple of months and I'm sure my drawing has improved just because of watching so much of this channel! I managed 3 MerMays during May :)

I’m kind of known for my love of sad stuff, and all my favorite scenes from works I’ve edited have been the saddest parts. I just... feel like that kind of material is often the most genuine. It’s not that hard to find witty banter or describe a scene, but reaching inside you, pulling out your pain, and using it as ink? That... never loses its power. I’m happy I’m not the only chronically ill gal who kind of gravitates to the sad stuff sometimes. I think it’s better out than in, so writing, drawing, painting, composing music, whatever helps make the pain a tool of your will rather than having it be a vehicle to crush your will, I think it’s a solid strategy.
We often can’t win the wars we’re fighting, but that is far from meaning that we don’t have means to fight back. If I’m going out in a long and drawn out slog of pain, by God, me using that experience to leave something behind that was written in the time my illness stole from me, I’m going to. Changing the parameters of what a win looks like is exceedingly useful. If it’s not about getting well and ending the war, at least it can be about finding ways to fight back and be expressive and feel competent and proud and all the things that your illness wants to take away from you. So. Heck yeah, rock the sad stuff. It’s a tool in your toolbox. Tools are meant to be used.
Even if I don't and probably will never understand how it feels like to have depression (or any mental illness that triggers a lot your sadness I guess 😅), I must say what you said was really beautiful and quite inspiring.
But gotta say you're right about the "negative emotions can help be productive" part. As a (for some reasons) frustrated teenager, I guess I've grown quite good at writing angry characters 😂

Hey Erin! I started experiencing severe chronic back pain when I was a teenager! If you haven't already, I recommend seeing if you can get tested for connective tissue disorders (EDS), it may provide a lot of answers for you ♡
@@sophiathedandilioness hey Sophie, thank you for your reply :) After seeing my doctor over the years when I was a teen, they discovered that I have degenerative disk disease, as I have a slipped disk in my lower back. I'll give it a look into as well, thanks for the advice!
Rin is always so giddy and happy in her videos that sometimes, it’s a little hard to believe that at times, she struggles with her emotions, just like the rest of us. But I love that she is willing to vent and express herself, even if it is just for 23 minutes.

Watching waffles draw and make mistakes and restart and grow as an artist has brought back my artistic desire and now I’m sketching again and trying different things and starting to stylize and experiment and I am so excited to be creative again

I know this was like a whie ago and you wont see this but lately your videos have like inspired me to draw more instead of just like moping or layingndown doing nothin. I feel like i left drawing because i wasnt happy with how i drew, but watching your videos and drawing while listening to them, i realize im actually improving. While i was watching this video i was drawing different poses and sketches of a new OC i created named veronica. I know this is random and probably noone will see this but i just wanted to say thank you Rin for heping me.
I love how whenever I'm in a creative slump, I just have to watch these videos to get out of it and start drawing again.
