It's not just a Canadian problem unfortunately. We're currently selling a 3000+ square foot house in a nice suburb to move to a small cabin on 8 acres in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately it's much easier to get a license to protect your family in the States.
That's a huge change! Wishing you all the best in this new journey. And you are right. It's everywhere! Even if we do get our gun license... we aren't able to use it to protect ourselves from other people and depending on the season... you can't use it on certain wild life either... they are super strict on when you can use your guns here. Anyways ... very different from the States.

@bornincanada48 thank you so much for your kind words. We know where Cornwall is. We used to live on 2 acres before moving off grid. 2 acres is a good piece of land. We are happy you're enjoying your property. Country living is the best. Take care my friend and thank for following a long!
I am happy to hear that you guys are all safe and I will continue to support and write and I'm glad that it's a Canadian youtube channel from Ottawa ontario
I moved out to the country from the Toronto area almost 5 years ago. I agree The city is more dangerous than living in the country. The people I have met in the nearest township were friendly, and I have never had to worry about having my truck stolen, even when I go shopping in town. I am aware of the wildlife when I walk around through my trails, and always have my bear whistles and make noise as I go. Great videos!
Be careful about what you are leaving out there...I had to chase off a few no good lowlifes out there. Plus the wildlife will eventually start wrecking stuff...Sorry to hear about the truck...Take care guys...You will get through all of this
I agree the quality of life for you and your family is much better off grid and safer.Theft and drug absure are rampant and police appear to be afraid to do their job. I would get a gun hopefully never having to use it,but much better than saying after an incident if i had only bought a gun.Really enjoy your videos, all the best and stay safe.

We also learned that there has been an increase of stolen vehicles and break ins in that area... they refunded us our money for our stay ... I think all hotels should have security cameras. Thieves now are actually really good at deactivating alarms and they are warning the public about this in the news
Happened to me years ago but luckily they only took the loose change inside. Note to all, never leave any items of value inside when staying at any motel/hotel. These places are so notorious for break ins as what happened to someone I know who parked in a well let hotel close to Toronto international airport. His car was found a few weeks later in Halifax Harbour getting ready. to be shipped overseas. Re insurance I deal with CAA for auto who operate 24 hours per day and is their best interest to deal with clients respectfully.
And the funny thing is ... we have CAA ... we wanted to use them but insurance company insisted we us their towing and because we were so shocked with everything that happened we just went with it. And yes ... huge mistake on our end for leaving things in the truck. Unfortunately, we were traveling with so many things. We sometimes have an illusion that it will never happen to us and we are "safe" ... thanks for sharing all this!
Glad you fought the (un)insurance company! Btw how does one go about finding land to buy in Ontario? I'm trying to move out of Toronto as well once I have enough saved up
(Un)insurance 😂 honestly such a terrible experience... we have a video on our channel sharing tips on finding unorganized land in Ontario... we will link it here: ruclips.net/video/2sQ5rv8O6OM/видео.htmlsi=olPYOYmY_b2KJ7Dw But we are thinking of making another one sharing the step by step process. That's the reality of owning a newer pick up truck, these days. There was a guy who got jacked for his Rav4 in my neighbourhood. Toyotas, Lexus', Hondas, are the #1 picks for thieves. Park a Buick Regal on your driveway, then tell me about how people try to break into your home for the key fob.
Our truck was a 2008 Ford lol so we definitely don't own newer trucks here... our new one is a step up... 2014 lol we were surprised we even got robbed... our truck definitely isn't new
@@OffGridWithGinaThi Ya, I actually corrected my original post, when I suggested your truck was new. Then changed the wording as "newer". I'm so not a truck guy. I do pay attention to the "Top 10 Vehicles Stolen in Canada" though. F150s top that list.
@robertlee4172 yeah I saw that list Lucky us. An F250 is one of the more affordable better brands to tow heavy tools and pull our trailer. Now that we are back in the bush.. hopefully we won't have anything stolen lol
Gina & Thi. Good for you guys. I'm tying to get my off grid property built up. Living hours out of Toronto and loving it. I have not had any issues yet of the vandalism and theft that is rampant across Canada and the world. Sounds like you are in Northern Ontario. It really is beautiful. Get your PAL and get a shotgun. Have Gina get hers also. Better to have the family involved with the safety of knowledge or firearms. Kids will know that it is not a toy and to keep hands off of them. And locked away when not needed for food or safety.
I would recommend getting your gun license. The dogs are not going to scare away a hungry bear or a hungry pack of wolves. And even though it is rare, there have been cases of bears going into homes looking for food. And a gun would help protect yourself if that does happen. Also, try to friend the local hunters they will show you the best spots to hunt and let you know of any wildlife you should be aware of. But for the most part, living out in the country is safer than in the city.
We definitely are going to get our hunting license. All our neighbors are actually hunters, and they've been great with tips. Although, it's been our first time off grid. Our previous home was in the country, so we've been living out of the city for 5+ years now and agree that it's safer. Have a good one! Thanks for the tips and watching!
The insurance company can't be blamed for the damages of the truck, while it's stored in a lot. It's not the insurer's lot, the lot belongs to a third party provider. But the insurance company did make a bad decision by forcing their customers to pay for a new truck. The insurance, for the lot owner, should pay for additional damages, after the original break in. Taking plenty of pictures of before and after the storage of the truck was the key to winning this dispute. The company took the easy way out. I'd like to know the name of this insurance company who did this, to their customer.
So the good thing is that we did have pictures before it was towed ... so it happened from the time the towing company picked up the truck to the point it was dropped off at the mechanics... the towing company is the insurance companies people... we didnt hire them. The towing company actually confirmed that it hit the vehicle a couple of times on the road 😅 but it still felt like it wasn't their fault... honestly it was a Circus of a case. That's why we did win the battle with the insurance company because if we went to court we would win and they would lose much more. Thankfully we were able to buy a used truck comparable to our truck and it wasn't a loss for us... just a huge headache... the insurance company is Wawanesa which we are no longer using. The customer service was terrible and everyone was on vacation or sick leave and a lot of the adjusters didn't seem to know what they were doing. Anyways it ended up working out in our favor in the end... but a lot of back and forth.
@@OffGridWithGinaThi Ya, the frustration they stir up is the way they try to deny claims and avoid paying out. I was a Wawanesa customer as well. They gave me the screwgee sooo may times before. I switched companies. The next guy was just as bad. Cheaper by close to 40%. So, I'll have to live with the fact, no insurance company is honest.
@robertlee4172 and the wording they use to try and make you accept their terms... if it wasn't for my wife and talking to a lawyer friend... we wouldn't have known how to talk and get the money we deserved. Yeah it seems that this is a trend with many insurance companies... their job is to pay us the lowest possible right.
Take the towing and the garage business too court .. for damages too your truck.. if you have pictures.. you can show the cop for a lawsuit.. the case number it a lawsuit.
Yeah it was such an awful experience. In the end it was resolved. We would have to go to small claims court which would cost us money and a lot of time and we were going to go that route if it wasn't resolved fairly. I think this experience was definitely eye opening for us!
A lot of people have lost their moral and ethical standing in todays society . Toronto and surrounding area is a cesspool of criminal activity and seems to be getting worse as Trudeau and his Liberal cartel make it financially difficult to make ends meet and put food on the table. Stay the course and maintain your faith in the lord.
Hello- I've been enjoying your family journey and videos. Have any of the citizens tried to get together to reverse the g-ns decision or have that overturned. You really do need something like that to live out there especially if murderers, thieves come to your property. They don't care. I know your country is different from the USA but so much is changing everywhere. The BIBLE does speak about these times and in the book of Timothy, perilous times would come. Romans chapter 1, Revelation etc. But your most important weapon is JESUS CHRIST and his WORD. Stay Safe
Amen! Romans 8:31 is one of my favorite Bible verses. Of course, we still have to do our part. I plan on getting my license and a g-n as well. Thank you for watching. God bless you.
I wanted one but the cost was more than double... so we work with what we can afford. Maybe one day lol in the beginning of the winter season I use my atv with a plow and it worked pretty well. But I was away for a long time so the blower was my only option
"real off gridder" "pow pow" 😅 Off grid just means not connected to utility it has nothing to do with owning a firearm. But thanks for the advice ... I do want to get my pow pow in the next year lol thanks for watching Dave!
My life and my kids lives are not worth a vehicle. If a group of armed men broke into my house to steal my car keys the faster they find them and leave the better. I'm not going to fight them over it.
I 100% agree about or families safety ... but when you call police and nothing is done ... which we have seen 1st hand with our case and others... Canada needs to do better. They need harsher laws for criminals. Period. And they need to give better advice to the public. That advice is basically inviting thieves in your home 🤔
@@OffGridWithGinaThi there isn't anything they can do. Was there video of the break in? Don't get me wrong I am no fan, most police officers are just walking egos with a badge and shouldn't even be cops
@@Jordan-pf9wsWell, maybe they could take claims seriously... there are people calling in saying that they have had robbers trying to break into their vehicles. They could try and patrolling that particular street. They actually went back on their claim saying to leave keys at the front door bc that will actually motivate more break ins. They could actually respond to our phone calls when we found our belongings instead of never calling us back. When someone has a tracker on their vehicle, that should be a priority to get it back... especially when someone knows exactly where it is sitting... in a container. At the end of the day our laws here in Canada are very lenient. Vehicle theft has gone up by 400% ... this is an emergency at this point and should be treated as such. When you're worried about opening your door... there is a huge problem. Governments should be meeting asap to discuss this. I do have a lot of respect for law enforcement... and we are not trying to bash them. We are just speaking from our experience and others... things have to change... laws have to change. We are looking like a 2nd world country at this point which is sad to see.
The armed "men" would not be so quick to break in if they knew the punishment would be grievous or heaven forbid a person could defend their home against them. It's cars now but it will evolve into more than just cars, I wonder how much a kid is worth on the black market in some foreign country these days?
Canada is honestly not what it used to be sadly! ☹️

you need to get an f.a.c. o you can get a rifle to hunt deer, moose, and beer. also get a big freezer to store the meat.
Já passei por isso. Vandalizaram meu carro de trabalho na minha line way. Mas… Bola pra frente
@@alltaping4201 💯 💯
Do you have 2 trailers on your, property?
Yes we have 2 other trailers for storage and maybe in the future will renovate them
Switch insurance companies
Definitely did!!!
Thank goodness. Definitely some bs that you had your deal with and I am so sorry. No insurance company should do that to people
Take the towing and the garage business too court .. for damages too your truck.. if you have pictures.. you can show the cop for a lawsuit.. the case number it a lawsuit.
Yeah it was such an awful experience. In the end it was resolved. We would have to go to small claims court which would cost us money and a lot of time and we were going to go that route if it wasn't resolved fairly. I think this experience was definitely eye opening for us!
get a big dog and buy several good quality crossbows and teach your family how to use it.
Thanks Gary! We actually do have a crossbow! So it's funny you mention it! Haha! Take care and thanks for watching!
Thank you! Yes we agree! Stay safe!
Its WEF that Justin is so involved with ; hoping to make us a socialist/ communist country. Do not vote Liberal.
Wawanesa Insurance Company. Meow.
lol
@@OffGridWithGinaThi Thank you Gina and you as well!
front mount mower would have saved youur neck
I wanted one but the cost was more than double... so we work with what we can afford. Maybe one day lol in the beginning of the winter season I use my atv with a plow and it worked pretty well. But I was away for a long time so the blower was my only option
if you do not have a pow pow, you are EXTREMELY naive. why dont you ask a real off-gridder, or a farmer. your dogs and cameras are false security.
"real off gridder" "pow pow" 😅
Off grid just means not connected to utility it has nothing to do with owning a firearm.
But thanks for the advice ... I do want to get my pow pow in the next year lol
thanks for watching Dave!
🤣 vandalized.....🤔 I don't think that word means what You think it means 🤷🏻🤦🏻
"deliberately destroy or damage" ... the insurance company deemed it vandalization since they said it wasn't them at the end either 🫠
