Wow, talk about synchronicity - I was JUST thinking about this last night. Different art and themes work so well with a balanced system like tarot because no matter how you spin the visual interpretation, you're essentially creating an infinite number of access point to the same core meaning. I think this is important because finding a deck with strong resonance is like looking into a mirror and recognizing yourself. The messages become a lot easier to absorb if you can see your own journey. Radically different iterations of the same concept can also remind us of how other people have very different ways of viewing the world. All are valid, as we all share the human experience together.
This was a great example of reading the same card from different decks. On your example of the eight of cups I notice that the man in the first card is moving on but in a strong and confident way with his staff to steady him on his journey. On the next card it appears that the man is extremely upset and has his hand over his eyes and he seems to be moving forward but in a much less confident way. It makes it look like he doesn't know where he is going. On the last card I thought, oh no this will be a hard climb to get through this problem or situation. As usual you came up with a positive interpretation for each one. I have a few decks and sometimes in a reading if I feel stuck I will get one of my other decks out and compare the cards to help me. I really enjoyed this video, thanks Kate.
Kate, Thank you for sharing this! I love the subtleties in the different versions: the channel in Rider, the wind in Darcy and the cliff face in Hezicos, all separating the travelers from the cups. Best left behind, they’re out of reach anyway. Of course, I’m still new and my imagination might need reigning in. Still, I’ve never had a more exciting time being new. Look forward to your court card webinar!
Hi John! Glad you liked this video :) I like your take on the eight of cups - I think you're bang on there. I remember being totally new to Tarot and it IS really fun - I think you're mind is purer in a way and you're not as influenced by the book meanings as much. See you in my webinar :)
Hi Kate, as always a great video! I do interpret the cards both with what I know and what I see, so the choice of deck is very important and is the first intuitive move we make even before the reading starts.
I went with the original Rider Waite deck. Overnight shipping meant I got it yesterday. So beautiful. Now to get a book to write and keep my thoughts on what I think the cards represent in there. :)
Thank you Kate. As always your video was very enlightening. I often offer my clients a choice of decks and then go with the extra symbolism from that particular deck to verify the message that is meant especially for them.
Watching a different vid of yours in learning tarot, i looked to find my most pleasing visual card in the deck, i already know my least favorite because in only 2 months, i'm being stalked by the.. tower... so.. i find my favorite card (previously unknown to me) was the star card, and as i looked at them together i visualized the woman in the star as recovering from her fall from the tower, then i noticed their numbers 💗💕🗼🌟 and felt better understanding their progression, thanks!
Kate, this is a really helpful video, thanks for posting. It would be wonderful if you get a chance to do more like this with different decks, although I think it's useful to have the RW as the first card like a point of reference. It would be interesting and certainly useful to see your thought and feelings on some different cards.
This is really helpful because I like using my dali deck and my original rider waite but some of the cards compared have opposing images, for example The Sun in the dali deck has an image of Apollo sort of chained up with angels in the clouds and a lion beside him.
The skeleton knight keeps reminding me of Skeletor LOL. I see the pregnant birdie! I also in the shadowscapes card, see like hands coming in, or what seems to be tree trunks.
Thank you so much for this information. It has really helped. I have 5 decks that I truly love the artwork/connect with, and then the Rider Waite deck, which just does not appeal to me. I think I will create a comparison journal, where I can make notes of the differences in each deck, to help with meanings and readings!
I would have said the oppsite for the first cards, like in reverse. Since there's a path and a walking stick I see more direction. The second one has no path just the wind to fallow and the moon has a tree in front of it almost blocking the path.
Hi Kate. This video came closest to answering my question about how to choose the right deck in my collection for a specific question. I have many different tarot decks, as well as oracle decks, and this question is very specific to my path work. Do you have any suggestions (or spreads) which help in choosing the right deck(s) for a specific reading?
Fantastic video.i watched almost every videos. Questions>> 1).if a card fall out while shuffling do I put it back in the deck? 2). Does it have any significant meaning?
Thanks - glad you enjoyed this! To answer your question, I always include the cards that fly out in my reading. I feel they do have special significance. Unless a ton of cards fly out - they I will usually put them back and keep shuffling. Cheers, Kate
I'm confused.... So i have the rider Waite deck and the Paulina tarot so I cannot use the Rider Waite meaning for the Paulina tarot card? My Paulina Tarot card LWB only gives u a brief description/meaning so how do I get the correct meaning if the Pauling card doesn't give enough meaning OY VEY.
+ru.talaa You can definitely use your Rider Waite LWB to help you interpret your Paulina Tarot. But the unique artwork and symbols in the Paulina card should then give you some additional meanings and ideas. My intention wasn't to confuse you - the basic card meanings exist regardless of what deck you're using, but each deck is a little different in how the artist chose to portray each card and this can add some additional meanings and interpretations. But you can certainly choose to keep it simple and just stick to one book if you like.
phoenix belongs to the oriental culture especially chinese one, we use the phoenix to indicate de south direction in feng shui knowledge. Also represents the 49 encarnations of the human soul in earth until reach the illumination stage.
Hi Kate. Well done! Can you please type the name of the deck that sounds like "Hezacoast." I can't make out exactly what you are saying and I'm not familiar with the deck and would like to find it for purchase. Thanks so much!
Are you sure the one in the middle 8 of cups actually is Hezicos? Because I googled it and it looked nothing like that. It looked more like the one on the right side.
You're right! I fixed the description. The middle 8 of cups is actually the Dame Darcy Mermaid Tarot and the Hezicos is the one on the right. Thanks for noticing!

I agree! And that's funny you were just thinking of this topic!

Hi Kate. This was a really helpful video and made me less sketchy about purchasing my first Tarot deck that i feel i resonate strongly with.
Thanks!
That's wonderful to hear, Andrew :) I hope you enjoy your first deck!!!

Hi kate, Great video. I like how you compared the cards. Its interesting to see the differences in each deck. Thank you.
Thank you for answering this question I had about different decks and their meanings, this video was very helpful to me.
+Milky Lamb That's good to hear! Glad you liked this :)

Could you please list the tarot packs you used in the notes?
Thank you for a wonderful video.

I'm glad you found this video helpful, Sophie! I like your idea of doing this again with different cards/decks - I've made a note of that :)
Yay! Perhaps some of the "less known" or less obvious to translate cards.....will look forward to that!
This is really helpful because I like using my dali deck and my original rider waite but some of the cards compared have opposing images, for example The Sun in the dali deck has an image of Apollo sort of chained up with angels in the clouds and a lion beside him.
Thankyou Kate for this video. This was informative. ♡☆♡
Thanks for watching, Rya! Glad you found it helpful.

Thanks for the explanation!
Thank you for your insights
Thank you so much for your help it's much clearer now :D
Do you have any videos on how to do tarot monthly readings?
I would have said the oppsite for the first cards, like in reverse. Since there's a path and a walking stick I see more direction. The second one has no path just the wind to fallow and the moon has a tree in front of it almost blocking the path.
Great video! Thanks!
A helpful video, I like it. 😉👍🏻
What a deck is in the middle? (DEATH)
That is the Hezicos Tarot by Mary Griffin! A lovely deck.

Would you read the Wild Wood Tarot bases on its system since it has its own system? Thank you
So sill different decks will give you a different answer to your question?

Thank you! Where did you purchase yours? I look on Amazon and the price is astronomical.
