- This is my story of how we won the GoPro million dollar challenge and what we went through to get the shots along with the money we spent and risks we took to get the pay out! All filmed with Wake To Wake Watersports in The Turks and Caicos with some additional Spring scenes near Orlando Florida.

Something a little different today! :) I hope you guys enjoy the Behind the scenes look at what we did to get these shots!
*Just realized in this final edit I cut out a voice over mentioning Wake To Wake Watersports who were the 3rd party involved in the Turks & Caicos and made that all happen! Follow them on IG @waketowaketc (cut this video down from over 20min and totally cut the clip mentioning them without realizing it)
ALSO The guys from AERVIDEO reached out to me and said that if anyone wants to buy the product you can get 15% off for the next week if you used the promo code "CHRIS" bit.ly/2AP8Bip
And if you want to get split shots with your GoPro, GDOME is the way to go! bit.ly/2prsLsz
Chris Rogers congratulations my man I recently bought a GoPro and I’m eager to put it to work -the video is absolutely insane well done on your accomplishment ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾🌍🌍🌍 keep up the good work
Never surprised me u winning 1 M..... because your content is always 1in 1M ...... cheers to life
Appreciate your efforts
This some great Work. Amazing content and nice to bring up the cam settings keep up the good work,👍🏼👍🏼
BTS is awesome, but some tutorials from you would make you the GoPro Peter McKinnon...
Chris Rogers great video! There are some sick shots. What do you do to avoid the water drops in your gdome and your water-relates shots in general?!
“Self investment trip”
It’s called a holiday mate
Yeah but that way he can write it off as a business expense :D
He probably spent as much as he made back from the competition so just had an awesome all expenses paid holiday.
hell no he didnt spend 1 million
Marco97 u don’t get 1 mil u get a small cut of it
@@maarcoo97 lol he literally said 1 million devided by 100 shots
Imagine how this would look on the hero 8. 4k 60 hypersmooth. I know I love mine! Good shots and amazing edits too.

How to win the 1 million dollar challenge... Step 1: have a lot of money.
My exact same thought!
Nevertheless, the footage is pretty cool.
Step 2 have a lot of young good looking friends with cool toys that they’ll let you use for free and feature them in your video
@@mikestanley4457 lol
Step 3. Have a lot of sexy girls and use them for thumbnails so that a lot of guys tempt to click the video.
If you watched it there were some easy shots of a girl and stuff. Smart shots but not difficult shots and which could be done at home.
I just want to say many congratulations on winning the GoPro Million Dollar competition - well deserved - and so inspiring to watch your footage and enthusiasm!
THIS WAS DOPE. Love the story behind it and how you shared the techniques to getting those shots.
leblanc in the house!
Agreed dude. This video was straight inspirational
Ah thanks so much brother! 💙🙌🏼
We need a LeBlanc/Rogers collaboration 👊❤🦅

They should have two categories for this contest. Personally done videos and videos like yours with the equivalent of a professional production team. It's like asking a solo person to go again a Hollywood crew.
Well then, we'll just have to give these contests to the professionals; which defeats the whole purpose of such a contest. @Drew Kangaroo
@Drew Kangaroo Apparently you think not. I'm not sure that it's not possible to screen the difference between individuals doing amateur shoots and a pro after the money. Now GoPro may just be after good footage, but clearly the appeal of the contest is to the amateur not the professional. Otherwise, why would the average user care about the contest; since it represents production requirements beyond them, not the things they can do themselves.
The lottery is economical to enter and isn't based on talent or production values. @Drew Kangaroo
Economical to enter, extremely and discouragingly difficult to win against professionals. @Drew Kangaroo
I see you have no problem with it. I don't know that it would be realistically unfeasible to separate the two groups. @Drew Kangaroo
This is amazing! Sometimes it's hard to understand the time and effort going in to videos like this, but this one gave a whole different perspective. Outstanding work, thank you.
incredible how much effort someone can put into their hobbies... big respect for you guys!
Dope shots ! But why don't you talk about the price of the boat rental ? Plus hotels and every day stuffs like that ? I think a part of the budget is missing... But great to share that BTS anyway !!
Yeah sorry I should have mentioned that as well! The truth is that we stayed with Wake to Wake Watersports waketowake.tc at their house in Turks & Caicos and they covered the costs of the boat and fuel! That was part of their budget and they also got a cut of the 1mil from GoPro :)
That and the cost of all the gopros, gopro mounts etc.. Had to be 5-10k worth.
Sponsorships???
Yea... must be quite a lot of the "budget" missing.
Specially since their seems to be a few people sharing on the GoPro-money.

Congratulations, Chris, well done!!!! Outstanding shots! I had uploaded really a lot (all shots from my recent upload here) to that challenge but the cuts that made it to the final video are simply fantastic! Congrats to all of you, guys and keep up the great work!

Congrats thanks for sharing the making of this incredible footage, it's easy to see why you won.
Congrats on the win ! The video was great , looked like a blast with friends in paradise!
2:28 forgot to budget in the business class seats?
Lmao a Cape Town to Orlando round trip on business class is $3500 not $1200 like he says. Economy is about that much though.
I love this video! Very inspirational. Funny... my whole family used to compete in wake boarding and we are friends with Shawn Watson. I just ordered the AER. Such a cool product. How large is the dome you are using? I've been trying to find the biggest one I can get.
@marla Fay , How's your experience with AER , Please share , Am looking forward to buy one of that . Has it caused any damages to the GOPRO by any chance
Such a sick video man! Congrats on the win. Love that you take risky trips and it always pays off.
You are really good at editing with the music too. Sub for sure!
who could dislike such an informative video? really cool shots and filming. people are so easy to hate but people like Chris work their arse off for their work
Totally inspired. I've watched this at least 10 times now. I submitted a lot of clips Hopefully we win
Awesome behind the scene Chris! Nice to see! Just banger shots!
Freaking loved the story!!
This was one of the most amazing videos I've ever seen with gopros good job dude this was amazing.
One of the dopest videos I’ve seen. Keep up the good work. I loved it. I want to travel and do these kind of sports when I’m a little older
Hey Chris did you use linear mode in most of the clips or used wide and the corrected lens on post? Also EV and ISO max was at what number?
Thanks
Yeah, you COULD buy a teeny tiny li'l camera for almost $400, OR you could buy the Pewdiepie chair for only $399 ('can do this' ability included)
glad to see nine year olds at work
I will make that chair for $100 in about 4-6 days I think. extra soft and comfy and lasts if you ad water under the plastic. Warm water for that feel and scent of freshly made new Pewdeeple chair.
Wout Jonkers HAHAHA
Yeah, but that’s a bargain next to bath water!
Haha wow. Yeah why be outside and active and film things with a go pro.... when you can sit on your ass and become a turd on a chair all day... have fun becoming an "influencer".... this world is turning into a sad place
Absolutely stunning videos with the GoPro. Pure class!
It’s very satisfied seeing your videos , it’s a lot of effort to do awesome works here.keep doing it 👍
It's really awesome seeing the budget and how everything came to fruition. Turned out to be such a sick adventure with a nice payoff :) some risks are worth taking!
Killer shots man
this video was truly epic what a way to spend vacation with friends and it all worked out. I just ordered the foam throwing tool im super stoked about this thank you for the tips and video

Sick shots, amazing footage! Congrats
They are literally incredible
Wow thank you so much for this Inspiration😍👌🏻
Agreed. Absolutely dope

you are a craftsman. no fancy camera, no fancy setup, no fancy things at all.
only thing that makes you extraordinary is creativity + camera + just do it
Chris u r the man!!! Fantastic video bud....your r now my new superhero...
why point out your budget if youre gonna grossly leave most of the expenses out?
Socksy _ wut?
Food, drinks, hotels, gas, boat, all dope clothes and wake board equipment and editing equipment. I bet there is even more spending left out of even this list. Gotta spend money to make bigger money when it comes to production 💸💸💸💸💸💸💲💰

This is fascinating! Two questions if I may? How do you keep the water off the lens? Whenever I film and get spray on a GoPro I end up with distortion due to water droplets. Also, it mentions filming in 4:3, given the end product is 16:9, what is the benefit in this? Great job though, love it.
I'm not sure how he does it. But I've heard of using RainX on the housing.....
He uses this getgdome.com/
Gdome
@@luma6350 He said he used that for the split underwater/above water scenes. @11:15 You can see he's behind the boat, clearly he is not using the dome. Also, I don't think that dome is mounted to the chest of the rider. @4:38 you can see a spot hit the lens and "glide off".
That would just make it worse - a bigger area for droplets and further away from the lens so more in focus. Those are used for 'half and half' shots where half the view is underwater and half above. (I'm not saying he doesn't use one ever, but not for keeping the spray at bay while filming above the surface).
What a fantastic video. Awesome commentry and details of the camera setting too. Thanks for sharing bro 💪🤘👌

These shots are amazing. Its worth taking the leap of faith. 👏🏻♥️
How much did you win in the end?
Million dollars I think
@@123mcgarrigle no. then they would've needed 100 accepted clips.
Jonathan - I’m kidding. There was 100 winners, so minimum of $10k I assume.
j00 thats what I thought
It would've been 10k per clip so whenever it popped up with the Million dollar thing on the bottom left of the video, thats 10k+. I think they got 3-4 clips in but im not too sure.
So, did you get 4 cuts of the million dollars, one for each clip chosen? Was that money divided between everyone that helped with production? Great explainer video though. Always enjoy the behind the scenes of this stuff. Also, I thought a shot with the subwing and the dolphin in the background was your shot as well?
No matter how many of your shots made it, you only get 1 cut.
But the fact that many if his clips made it to the vid means that there were fewer people who got a cut.
It looks like 56 winners. Split equally would be just under $18,000 each.
Just found this, gopro.com/news/hero7-black-million-dollar-challenge-video-bts
@@dampaul13 but there were a lot of people that helps out with these shoots, did they all split it? What if a bunch of them each submitted the best clips and then 4 different people had those 4 different clips selected and they all split the money that way?
Awesome! I did really enjoyed the BTS and looking forward for more!

Around $50k?
IIIrandomIII way more - 56 entries won a share of 1m, making around 17.5k each entry. I didn’t count but looks like he got around 7 clips in, making ~125k
@@Paddyf64x but subtract all the expense and maybe less than 50k profit
0:37 can someone tell me how they got that shot
shown 5:20 I think
Maybe, idk because it doesn’t look like that’s what could happen from just holding the camera beside him
Its just the guy hold the gopro on a pole behind him and they rotated the shot in post.
Look closely at the bottom centre of the screen. You can see the video warping... Which is usually a by-product of masking. My guess is - that dude wedged the GoPro stick between his buttcheeks

Wow, excellent film making. The crispness of the GoPro hero 7 is something I haven’t marvelled at before but god damn you and the team made it look epic. I am also a huge of of your colouring, that water looks soooo nice!
:)
moral of the story is u need expertise and 100.000$ to get 1.000.000$.
the rest of the sumbissions have no chance, no matter how talented the shooters or great the ideas are.
basic economy, but people can dream that they have chances to get the million with their empty pockets.
Klimbo93 this🙌🏻
Of course... If two photographers are equally skilled but one of them invests 5k he will win the competition... It's a very simple investment, or did you expect to get 10 grand for filming your self jumping down a tree.
that's true, but one could get also great footage from something really unique that maybe didnt need great investment.
He spent $3,600 not $100,000 the return on investment was incredible
Just about to say this too...
