- KINGSLEY NORTH -
Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

I buy a lot of lapidary supplies from The Rock Shed. I don't make money from your purchases there, but they have good prices and good service. This is where I buy my finer grits and polish.

We had a great time. Thanks for inviting us. All the best to you and Nancy!
That was a great day. I wish it could have been a little longer!
Thanks you all for sharing your skills and thoughts, very informative to knows how to identify the differences of rocks🪨 God bless you all Amen.😂😅❤👍
I love & appreciate you Dr Nat. I could really watch y'all read rocks for hours. I wanna be like you when I grow up🥺
Very informative 😊😊😊
I could listen to you talk about rocks for hours, you certainly know your stuff, and you do an excellent job at describing each one. A true inspiration to the field!
That gneiss with the faults in it was the real showstopper for me! (You could say it's gneiss but it has its faults…)
Ohhhhh noooooo. You crack me up😊
Ha!
😂
Cute 😂
even though they pronounced it insignificantly, different than I was taught (as "neece)". , . .I still appreciate, the scholarly, feminine input!!
I LOVE when you have the PhDs on! I always learn something new…I was going to yell at you if you did not ask about your mystery rock so I am glad you did! Great episode!
You know I can't hear all the yelling, right?
I really appreciate these types of videos. I'm trying to learn the different types of rocks up there, and this helps a lot. Thank you.
I'm trying to learn about rocks too, so we both should thank Nat and Paul.
Agreed! This video is beyond helpful!
Yippie. I’ve waited a whole year or more for another one of these videos with Dr Nat and Paul ! Thanks all !! Michigan Rocks really does rock!
Does that mean we have to do it again next year?
@@MichiganRocksI’d really appreciate it if you would ! Lots more rocks to identify…😉
@@vicbertfartingclack4559 I'll do what I can.
Totally geeking out on all the rocks and their origin stories. You have a great resource in these geologist friends Rob. I could've watched and listened to Nat and Paul for hours. I'm glad your mystery rock was explained and that you found a few agates. Please more from the professors. Was cool that Nancy was able to weigh in as well. I was sad when it came to an end. They're a treat every time. 💯
If they're willing, I'd love to do a lot more videos with them. They live in Texas, so there's only a short time each year that we have to meet up. They also stay seven hours away from me in Michigan so it takes a little driving and planning to make these things happen.
Great to see Nat, Paul and Nancy again! Another geology field trip! 👏
I like those special treats. A big thank you to Dr. Nat and Captain Paul for sharing their knowledge !!! So very interesting the history and origin of the rocks and identification !
I also enjoyed that day as a special treat. I've been looking forward to it since winter when we started planning to meet up.
oooooo i love these guys!!! very informative. Fly pants?!?! I need a pair.
They're in my Amazon storefront. A fly suit is a must in the U.P.
Fascinating! The way that rocks form has always been of great interest to me. I like to say that when we pick up a rock we are holding the physical history of Earth in our hands. Thank you to all!
Excellent video! I am a retired 66 year old Geologist, and your quests helped me recall my memories of mineralogy and petrology! Thank you!
That's great!
Congrats Paul on the book😮😊❤🎉❤
Great instructors all with easily understandable info. ThankYou all for your time and effort ❤
The book is really good. I especially like the title.
Our favorite geologists! (Outside the Rob and Nancy family.) I love hearing all the history that the rocks have to tell, and they're told so well by Nat and Paul. Thank you for a very interesting lesson on Lake Superior rocks, which of course can apply to other rocks in many different locations. Wonderful!
According to the caption on the picture, it's Engadine dolomite.
Ooh this is exciting! I collected a bunch of rocks from Lake Superior last year (inspired by your channel to take the long route home on a cross-country road trip just so I could get to Lake Superior) so I'm going to grab that whole bag and see how many I can identify as I watch!
That's a fun way to watch.
I love learning from them! Wish we had them here in N California 😊
That was fascinating! Nat explains things so clearly. And the rocks are all so interesting.
Enjoyed the special treat ❤. Love the excellent video. Very educational. Thanks Rob. Waiting for the next one….
Maybe next summer we'll go to Lake Michigan since we have Lake Huron and Lake Superior covered now.
These videos with your very knowledgeable friends are my favorite, thank you! :)
Watching your latest video right now!! So excited to learn from your guests (and Nancy!!)
Thanks Rob It is a really great video so much to learn about rocks. This was a lot of fun.
I sure had fun that day.
I just love these two people! I learn so much. I still watch the video you posted with them on Lake Huron!
That has been a very popular video, so I was really excited to be able to do this one.
Thanks so much for doing this again! I really appreciate learning more about identifying rocks. You all rock!
This was a very informative video! Loved it, thank you & thank your 2 guests! 👍💯
Excellent video Rob, nice to see everyone out having fun, awesome information from everyone too.
I can't take much credit for this one. God made the rocks, and Nat and Paul identified them.
Absolutely amazing to me! I love rocks! It is amazing that they can identify without having to consult a book!
They're both geology professors, so they get lots of practice, I suppose.
There's 2 PhD geologists, I should 100% hope they don't have to consult a book,😂😂😂😂they wrote the book😂😂😂lord kids today, dum-dee-dum-dum😂😂
The one PhD guest, Paul, has a new book just out 😂😂😂😂
This was extremely helpful. I watched the video and now I'm going to go through it again and take notes. Thanks for doing this.
I learn the most from these videos. Thanks for having them back.
I was thrilled to be able to spend another day on the beach with them.
Fantastic video, so informative! Big thanks to Michagan Rocks for taking the time to put this video together. And also, of course, to Paul and Nat for sharing their time as well
Nat and Paul definitely deserve the majority of the thanks.
A wealth of information, WOW
Very informative 👏 👌 It was nice meeting you all there that day! We found 2 agates very close to you both & unfortunately lost one. We had a few cool finds in keweenaw also. Love your videos!
It was nice meeting you too!
Well that was a great video! Thanks for the excellent explanations. It's always exciting to see a geologist get excited about a rock, considering how many they've handled.
Very educational. I wish I could identify the rocks like that... I just love rocks...
Omg, that was loads of fun! Like Paul's book. Very nice. The pic w/Nat as size reference had an unusual but very beautiful rock. What was that? Thoroughly enjoyed Nat's informative selections. Always good to see Nancy. The amethyst was an interesting vein. Thank you for sharing this vid. Love it when the geologists & Nancy visit. God bless.
I really enjoy all of your videos but.....I love when Nat and Paul visit. Thank you!
I love that too.
Love when you do these informative videos. Thank you!
Too bad I can't do them on my own. I'll stick to informing about the lapidary end of things.
For a beginner rock hounder who’s a native to Michigan I found this very entertaining and educational! Thank you!
I'm glad you liked it. Did you see the one from last summer? ruclips.net/video/F_t4LC13utM/видео.html
@@MichiganRocks that will be the next video in my watch list!
Awesome video! Very informative. 😇🥰😍👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video, Rob!! Too short though. It was great to realize that your geologist friend Paul wrote the book I bought my husband for Father's Day. I'm glad you got an answer to your mystery rock puzzle.
Everyone said last year's video like this was too short, so this one was a little longer. If we do one next year, we''ll see what we can do about getting to over 50 rocks.
Thank you for this! Nat and Paul do a great job explaining things clearly. It's nice to finally put some names to all the rocks I see at lake superior
So much information, a must to watch again and again. Thanks Nat for identifying Rob's mystery rock! Wonderful rock hounding/geology class. Got to get that book.
I adore Nat! I could listen to her for hours and hours 🥰🥰
Are you subscribed to her channel? She has whole geology courses there.
Thanks for the detailed video. I am in the lake superior area now and rock huntng tomorrow. Very helpful and fun, too.
The lake is so calm and clear, what a perfect day!
Genuine thank you to you all for making these videos. I've been taking several geology/mineralogy/earth sciences courses in university for many years now, and these videos have not only helped me better understand what I'm studying sometimes, but have raised my interest levels.
Much love from Ontario
If you haven't already, check out Dr. Nat's channel: www.youtube.com/@DrNat13
This waz a very interesting video. Thank you to paul and his wife. I really enjoyed hearing how old some were and some more info about our mystery rock. Its really a mystwry! Thanks again for this awsome lake superior adventure with tou guys.
I still wish there was a name for that rock as a whole. At least I know that the translucent part is chalcedony.
😊Absolutely outstanding and informative video!
What a wealth of knowledge! Thank you for sharing.
Nice friends
Oh thank you for such an informative video! I’ve learned so much. This is one video that I will watch several times. I found a few of these rocks today at our cabin in Wisconsin! Oh and Nancy thank you so much for putting on those pants! Awesome, now to find some!
I have those pants listed in my Amazon storefront, which you can find in the description of any of my videos. I was out today on Lake Huron and had to get them out because the flies were out again.
We bought Paul’s awesome book back in July on our annual trip to the Keweenaw! We’re learning so much and planning more adventures!
Good book, huh?
I love Nats’ knowledge of all these rocks
scientifically enthusiastic which is cool
Thanks for braving those flies to give us this great lesson!
You've gotta be tough if you're going to hunt on Lake Superior. Darn flies are part of the deal, unless it's freezing cold, then they're not a problem.
The rock with the faults was cool. I enjoyed Nat and Paul they are so interesting and knowledgeable. Congrats to Paul on his book!
You should have heard me hooting and hollering 🤠 when she identified things exactly to what I had figured out on my own! Confirmation from a real geologist feels good! 🦉🦉
Congratulations on your identifications!
Interesting video. I learned a lot. We learn something new every day. That's what I tell my students. Wait, did I just see that rock smile? Lol!
Very helpful!
Thanks to all of you for doing this again. It's definitely going into my "save" vault. Congratulations on another great video.🤗🤗🤗🤗
Great video Rob. I learned a lot. I wish they could come to MN to help us identify a few things for us.
I could watch this all day everyday. Thank you all so much
Did you see the one from the summer before?
39 Lake Huron Rocks Identified: ruclips.net/video/F_t4LC13utM/видео.html
Great video and informative thanks to the 4 of you guys, especially your 2 experts!!
Wonderful timing! I just got back from a trip to Michigan where I hounded on lakes Michigan, Huron, and Superior and I have several rocks in my buckets that I'm unsure about. Thank you for all of your informative posts, they are what inspired me to start learning about rocks and geology and not just picking up pretty rocks. I can't wait to sort and start tumbling my new material. 😊
That's what I like about this hobby, you get to play with the rocks twice, once while collecting and again when you tumble them.
Very interesting episode! I’ve learned a lot.
I was happy to see Nancy again. I like her a lot. She has a nice sense of humor and she always finds beautiful rocks. 😊
Many greetings from The Netherlands
I like Nancy a lot too. She's nifty.
You know you’ve made it when someone writes a book about you 😂😂😂😂. Nice explanatory video of what you see out there.
It sure looks like it could have been about me. Even the color scheme of the cover fits.
I love how much they know about Michigan rocks! Thank you for doing this video. It’s so interesting!
I think Nat and Paul know a lot about rocks in general, not just Michigan rocks.
Great that she had so much knowlegde, interesting to hear HOW stones/rocks are ended up looking as they do. Nice video. Thank`s to all
I could listen to Nat all day. Great video! My neighbor travels all over collecting rocks. He knows how much I love rocks so I get buckets and buckets of them. I need to have a coffee day with Nat to go through my rocks and identify them for me 😁 Paul your book is fantastic 👍
Sounds like a good neighbor to have. You should be really nice to him and maybe he'll invite you to come along on a trip someday.
@@MichiganRocks He invites me all of the time. He is a single guy. I am married. I don't think that would look good 🤷🏼♀️
This was great. Thank you so much. Really enjoyed the rocks and learning about them.
I met Paul and Nat out at Horseshoe Harbor a couple years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they were taking pictures out there for the book. Congrats on finishing it! I'm sure it was quite a project. Thanks for making another one of these informative videos. I always learn something.
Lucky!
Horseshoe Harbor is such a beautiful place.
@@MichiganRocks I did some primitive camping there last fall on my first rockhounding trip to Superior. My friends and I found a nice site about 20 minute hike east of Horseshoe. Those 3 nights we saw the northern lights every night! The view was perfect with the lake directly north of us. Best place we went on the trip, I'll never forget it.
@@VersaiOnline That sounds awesome. I have never seen the northern lights.
@@MichiganRocks yea we were so fortunate. The only other person we saw down at our far end of the harbor was an international photographer that flew out to catch the opportunity. On the third night the sky looked like it was on fire, the radiation waves were pulsing very quickly like a flickering flame. It was insane, I hope you see it someday.
Very Interesting!! I appreciate learning more about the rocks!!! I wish you the best Paul on your book!! Thanks Everyone!! 🤗🤗🤗👍
More of this! Exactly the kind of hands-on rock and mineral identification that really helps novices like me.
Chalcedony!! YAY! Thank you for asking Dr. Nat about that rock! I have so many and now I can properly identify them 😁 I'm excited to for Dr. Paul's book to come in, just bought it!🥳
Thanks for buying Paul's book. It's a great way for us to thank him.
Nancy has the right idea, those pants are life savers on the beach if you don't like getting eaten alive! Great video content with Nat and Paul. Love all your videos, keep them comin. and rock on!
They sure are. We both have some, but I never put mine on. If you get them wet, they stick to your legs and become pretty ineffective. I have trouble staying out of the water.
Oh yay! You got it finished. Congratulations Paul. I enjoyed the video too!
I love how much we are learning here. Very enjoyable and fascinating. Thank you to you and your guests.
What you are referring to as Nocluite, my Dad called Leaverite.... Leave 'er right where you found it!!! This video is fascinating, thanks to all for sharing their knowledge.
I think leaverite is different. Not all nocluite is leaverite.
this was super informative, thank you Nat & Paul for your insight! Would love a series of these types of videos
It sort of is a series if you consider two videos to be a series. Here's the one from last summer: ruclips.net/video/F_t4LC13utM/видео.html
So much great info! Thank you all! Can't wait to come back up to MI and do more rock hunting with my new found knowledge. Also, I must get that book!! Awesome!😊
You could spend quite a bit of time driving around Michigan with that book in hand.
@@MichiganRocks I look forward to doing just that 😁
Thanks Rob, as usual a great video. I was thankful that my wife, granddaughter and I had the opportunity to meet you four as you were coming off of the beach that day this summer. I have had the joy of picking up many of the rocks discussed but just knew that they were interesting rocks. It is always nice to learn what they really are. Thanks again.
I don't really deserve the thanks for this one, I just held the camera. I'm really thankful to Nat and Paul for sharing their knowledge.
And yet you went to the trouble to video it and share it with all of us. So Thank YOU for doing that. @@MichiganRocks
I love these videos, Rob! They are extremely informative and contain a wealth of great information! Thank you very much for being willing to exploit your relationships for our benefit!
Is that what I was doing? Either way, I'm glad you're happy, Will.
I enjoy your updated rock finds with identifying the stone on screen.
Wow! This is so informative! No one every shows what they look like in the wild. Thanks!
This was really fun to watch. Thanks!!! Looks like a great book, btw.
Almost halfway thru!! Loving your two guests. Awesome possum peeps
I really enjoyed listening to Nat and Paul explain the different types of rocks, and it is always nice when Nancy comes along and shares her finds also. It looks like Paul has written the perfect book for rock hunters. Thank you for sharing these videos with us.
Paul's book is more about geology than rock hunting. It's a great book.
Hi Nancy! It's been awhile. Good to see you.
I'm gonna look for your friends book.
Quite an information packed episode. Thank your friends for the treat.
Hopefully, they'll read the comments. I think they're very appreciated. I know I appreciate them.
Thanks, Rob, for the excellent video. I learned a lot From Nat & Paul & purchased Paul's book. It's perfect for my autumn camping tour of Lake Michigan parks & beaches. Nice to see Nancy out again.
Thanks for buying a copy of Paul's book. I feel good if we can help him out a little after all the teaching he has done here, both in videos and in comments.
Loved this episode, beautiful rocks, didn’t want to see it end and will watch over again. Thank you !
They seem like a fun bunch to hang out with. Nat is absolute treasure trove of knowledge!
Both Nat and Paul are super knowledgable and also fun to hang out with.
Very informative video, love seeing and hearing about each rock. Beautiful rocks! Thanks 😃
The mention of the book is awesome. Im from a different state and looked on thrift books and found the one for my state. Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Thanks for bringing in Nat and Paul and Nancy the pros, love learning the scientific names for these rocks
You're welcome. My expertise is in tumbling them, so I need to bring in someone else to really explain things well.
Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: My 3rd time watching, and I learn more each time !
I need to watch this again before heading out to Lake Superior this year.
Nice seeing the Docs again. Always learning something!
I agree!
A real treat! Thank you all!
Just bought paul’s book thank u!
Thanks, Mr. Jones. I think you'll like it.
Thank you for posting videos with these peeps! Love it!
I learn so much from them. It's really awesome going out on the beach with them.
What a terrific video! I learned some things today. Rock hounding and tumbling are all new to me. Do your friends have a RUclips channel?
Yep. www.youtube.com/@DrNat13
This was very interesting and very informative. Thank you Rob & gang !!
Amazing video Rob! So interesting when you have the geologists friends out with you. Really enjoyed this one.
I enjoyed this one too.
Love this so much! Please do more show and tell rocks.
We did one of these last summer too: ruclips.net/video/F_t4LC13utM/видео.html
