  • Scalping is a popular Betfair trading pastime on the exchanges but has got trickier in recent years.
    However, you can still profit if you insert a directional bias into your trades and stick with it, that's what I'm doing in this video.

    This is a great video. I like how you pop up the chart to see what direction the trade is moving.

    Thank you for this video... I've been in the situation where I'm having 5-6 successful trades and then 1 where the price drifts and then I wipe out my days profits or even eat into my bank. This video has shown me where I've been going wrong. Thanks again.

    Great video as always. Here's my problem with scalping which I hope you could shed some light on. If I lay @ 6 and then wait to be matched @ 6.2, the market may suddenly jump several ticks lower which isn't too good, BUT if it suddenly jumps several ticks higher, I've still only got 6.2. I feel like it's these jumps that ruin everything???

      I always think its dodgy trading around cross over points, especially if the price has never been below 6 or 4 or 3, once it breaks these the price can drop very fast and you will never get back into profit .

    I am just wondering ... in this video you are trading the favorite and it is drifting slowly , however second favorite seems to be drifting much faster however if these two horses are drifting then to keep things balanced the 3 or 4th horse should be shortening. But they don't seem to be ... not much movement at all. Why is this? - how can that happen ? or is this drifting of the second fav the illusion created by "crosshatching" from your placing markets on the 1st fav. Hope this makes sense!!!....

      It was probably something further down the field I guess. I'd have to check the data.

    great video Peter... you make it look so easy. more often than not as soon as I put my position in it goes against me. "directional scalping" certainly looks like it will lower risk 🖒

    Hi Peter,
    So I see in this video you make a judgement (that the market will probably continue with the trend) and place your bets according to that. You hold onto your position even when the market goes against you. At what point do you get out if you find you have made an incorrect prediction. I tend to struggle with this, I usually hold on far too long and then see a significant loss.

      Noise will shake you out of the market repeatedly if you let it. So you will often see me sit on a position even if it moves against me as long as all the other stuff looks OK.

    2:30 - *Is this a con?* How come you put £10 @ 6, and for 1 tick you get £2.
    I tried the same thing today, put £5 @ 5.8 and for 1 tick (5.9) I got 8p. Logic dictates if I put £10 I would get 16p. So how comes your getting £2 per tick? So in short, you're getting 1,250% more for your trade than I am. No wonder you're doing so well Peter!

    Is it possible on bet angel to auto place the back stake as soon as the lay stake is taken?

    • @betangeltv
      @betangeltv  8 лет назад

      It is, perhaps I can do a video on that next week. You can do it a number of ways.

    • @tadgh2260
      @tadgh2260 8 лет назад

      That would be appreciated Peter, Thanks. Also can it be done that it only lays the amount staked, for example, I have a 50 back bet and only 20 gets matched then only that will go on the lay side?

    • @betangeltv
      @betangeltv  8 лет назад

      Yes it can

    Hi Peter
    Great video. This may seem like a stupid question but I am bit confused about the ladder here. Usually the Back bets are on the left side and the Lay bets on the right side, but in this video it seems swithced, or am I missing something? You obviously Lay first (at, say, 6.0) then back at a higher odds (e.g., 6.2) in order to get the profit, but the Ladder looks reversed here? What am I misunderstanding?

    • @paulharrison8612
      @paulharrison8612 3 года назад

      Paul Ebrey it spreads the green amount on the horse traded through the entire field of runners so no matter who goes on to win you have a profit of that 'Hedged' amount

      Sometimes you can get more from a trade if you scalp it than try and get a broader move.

  • @FosterBayley
    @FosterBayley 8 лет назад

    Any particular reason that you chose to scalp this market other than the current structure? (Eg. Race type/Time of day/...)
    @tmte

    • @betangeltv
      @betangeltv  8 лет назад +2

      I profile all races before I trade them to judge how I think I will behave. There are quite a few characteristics to look at. But essentially most races of similar set up behave in similar patterns.

    Random question, have you ever done this on the greyhounds?

    • @betangeltv
      @betangeltv  8 лет назад +1

      Greyhounds are very volatile so you probably want to take more than one tick out of it to make it work. I've dabble a lot in Greyhounds but it's generally too small for me. They do about £20k a race on the BAGs meetings.

      I'm usually more aggressive, but it's built on a similar principle.
