The year this song came out my dad was dying from terminal lung cancer. He had two tumors in his head and very child like. This song was confirmation that would be passing on. I was 15 going on 16 at that time.

RIP chris cornell. My Grandma passed December 15th. She was amazing and lived a long happy life! the meaning of this song is a little vague but Chris did say he thought of an old man waiting to join his lover in the after life as one of the inspirations. Her and my grandpa are very Christian and my grandma's favorite bible verse said "my father's house has many rooms" (or something similar im not too sure.) This song just makes me think of them now and probably always will. Beautiful song!

Agreed. Cornell in my opinion was THE quintessential voice of rock in the 90's. Soundgarden got lumped into the "grunge" genre simply because of where they came from and because of the time period they became popular.
