I think that would have actually been a really cool direction to take Penny’s character if they had made her more of a Sci-Fi actress. It would have showed the influence the guys had on her while keeping with her original dreams. Plus, it could have led into some interesting future plotlines.
Too bad doing interesting plot lines was not what the so called writers wanted to do. They just wanted to make everyone unlikeable assholes to milk the premise of the show for all it was worth.
Really it was stupid of Penny to reject the Audition because even if she doesn't like Star Wars surely she must recognise that it has a popular fanbase and would get her more attention as an actress.
@@TheWeepingDalek as someone with a high strive to make it into showbiz, that's pretty ignorant of her to consider anything that connects her to her goal, to be seen as "irrelevant". If she was a real actress? She would grab the opportunity without giving it another thought. Auditions are the life blood of an actors life! Especially of those who are not recognized yet. What she actually says by her reaction is that she doesn't really believe in her "vocation". Shame on you, Penny. Take another gulp of w(h)ine.
It had nothing to do with Star Wars. When she thought it was an actual audition, she was extremely enthused about it. But when she realized that it was a PR stunt, she realized that it was a contest to pick a super fan to stand in the background,, have no lines, be completely unrecognizable. But even if there was a PR stunt contest for a part in a movie like, Bridesmaids-she still wouldn’t have done it.
this comment is old and I'm not an actor, but the Star Wars community is one of the most toxic communities I have ever searched. They ruined a lot of actors lives, specifically prequels.
Well, considering the fact that Penny had little to no options at that time she should’ve jumped at the opportunity. She had no idea how much exposure a small part in a new Star Wars film could’ve gotten her.
Wheaton really doesn't have any pull in casting. I love the guy, but if he had any kind of pull, he'd be able to get a cameo for Wesley in a bunch of star trek films or shows. Or Felicia Day would be in one of them, or any of his other friends.

She really did. The two movies that Penny was in were “Serial Ape-ist” and “Serial Ape-ist 2: Monkey See, Monkey Kill”. They were low-budget horror/fantasy/schlocky sci-fi exploitation flicks that became underground cult favorites on the fandom convention circuit. So, Penny was involved in that world, even before she and Leonard connected.

@@unamusedrowlett6303 Yes, they were the worst movies of her career. They were also the best movies of her career. (They were the ONLY movies of her career.) Her only other role (besides commercials) was in “The Diary of Anne Frank”, a theatrical play performed above a bowling alley.
I get that Penny got upset at Leonard, but she can be a bit of a drama queen. A bit fan of storming off and at times one has to walk on eggshells around her. Of course I love her character, but sometimes it's healthy to be critical, as well.
I know it was done for comedic purposes but using the Luke vs the Death Star analogy could have been replaced by Leonard telling Penny that George Lucas used relatively unknown actors and actresses for his movies. That would be more encouraging to Penny but not as lol for us.
I like to imagine in these multiverse movies they see a _Star Wars_ with alternate casting, like the cast from _Carrie_ or _American Graffiti._ William Katt as Luke Skywalker, Sissy Spacek as Princess Leia, and John Travolta as Han Solo. Ron Howard as Luke Skywalker, Cindy Williams as Princess Leia, and Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Of course my pick would have been Perry King, who auditioned for the movie, and actually did play Han Solo in the 1981 Radio Drama!
