Richard Fairbrass opens by making a point to the Union and inparticular Anthony McCarthy that commitment is not the preseve of hedrosexual couples.

ABOUT RICHARD FAIRBRASS:
Equal rights activist and lead vocalist for 'Right Said Fred'.
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY:
The Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. It has been established for 189 years, aiming to promote debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
Gay or not gay, I am with him on right to privacy and free from interference from State..people need to come together more and be united to fight for these rights.
Richard Fairbrass allowed people to make their points each and every time someone stood up, requesting a moment to speak. In contrast, Peter Williams allowed not a single person the time to do so. I believe this inadvertently exemplifies the open-mindedness on the part of gay people which Richard mentions, vs. the desire to impose their views and suppress expression, as evidenced by Peter.
'Cause youre my mate and I will stand by you
Youre my mate and I will stand by you
And in the face of things that could hurt you
Youre my mate and I will stand by you
"That's not a road you want to go down" - Nicely included.
Incredibly educated man, excellent points raised throughout. As long as the child is raised in a loving, nurturing, caring, home the relationship of the parents should not matter.
Gay people can't have children so where would the children come from? I don't understand what you're trying to say?
For those of you young enough not to know who Richard is, he was a pop singer in the 90s of British band called Right Said Fred.
is. the two freds still are making music. you gotta respect that. beyond their 90s heyday theyve still released album after album and they all sold. over 30 years in the music industry, you gotta really respect that.
their songs are awesome! I was probably 7 years old when I first heard the song Im Too Sexy... it was awesome then and its still awesome now.... Im a catholic conservative/traditionalist and also a heavy metal singer, but I love this guy and his brother, and I love Right Said Fred! their songs are a shining beacon of happiness
@9:55 Yes we can verify that gay couples are just a good as parents if not better according to the research done by the APA, and ASA, especially the work done by Dr. Judith Stacey.
Why is it when the science does not agree with these religious bigots they simply ignore it or try to weasel their way out of it?
I love it when the dude with the gay commitment issue stood up for his point of information and the camerman just sighs, "that's not a road you want to go down" 2:47
I grew up in a man-woman parental household and they were always screaming at each other. I think that sort of environment is damaging. But I also recognise most man-woman parents are good parents. But my point is that straight parents and indeed gay parents are not always good parents. Ask Fred and Rose West's children.
Indeed. Stephen West has also seen prison no doubt his evil parents had a huge impact on his development.
Good speech, emotional opening, that really made him seem down to earth :)
Seem down to earth? What did you expect?

Very well expressed by Richard at the beginning.
LOL..love that guy
This is probably the most subjective speech i ever heard.
+Sondos turkistani No social, emotional or cognitive differences found, except children raised in same-sex are often more tolerant?
The well-being of the children is what should be considered?
Seems relevant to me, unless you're saying that thinking the above is a good thing is 'subjective'.
If this speech took place in 2013, then that would make Richard Fairbrass 60 years old!!
I thought he was about 45 here!!
Very well spoken👍👍
This was by far the most reasonable argumentation from the gay side. It's about making sure the child would be happy having same sex parents, it's not about making the selfish, angry homosexuals happy. Potentially this could lead to the gay people satisfying their selfish wants, whilst denying the children normality.
What on earth are you talking about? There has been mountains of research into homosexual parents and if you bothered to look it up would see the outcomes for their children are very good and even better when compared to heterosexual parents half of whom did not plan their kids like we do, and they resent them to some degree. The instances of abuse are far higher with heterosexual parents. Do some research before spewing this nonsensical hatred. Raising children is selfish when Gay people do it, said like a true heterosexual bigot.
Another great debate, good points by Richard
Let us hope that the 3 ignorant prats who repeatedly stood up to interrupt Richard are not a reflection of the majority of those currently educated at Oxford!
Why's the first opposition speaker leaning so far over awkwardly like that, it's very strange
He must be feeling something from behind. Its part of the ritual.
I grew up with a closet gay man and his wife, as a part of their socially acceptable façade, and it was just terrible. To everyone outside our home, though, we appeared like the perfect Christian family.
i agree totaly with him and not because he is very attractive ..
Why do people always make the assumption that Gay people want to become parents? Many of us simply don't.
If you recall from my earlier comment, I said "read with understanding" you quoting scripture and don't understand what your reading.
If you recall from my earlier comment, I said "read with understanding"...your quoting scriptures and don't even understand scripture.
You must be reading the gay Bible, or you dont understand what your reading....read with understanding
gay rights mass debates.
How is he able to wear that shirt tho
I hot they know thats right side fredd
Crack a biology book open and you'll discover that our bodies weren't "made" at all ^^.
You're superimposing purpose/meaning (which is a subjective human construct) on to reality. It is a property of your perceptions of reality, not of reality itself, in the same way that the awe some people feel when looking at mountains is clearly a property of their minds, not of the mountains.
Our bodies can be used for an enormous range of activities and it is the "owner" of the body that gets to decide.
The name was Josef Fritzl, not Alfred.
Do your research properly before debating Mr Fairbrass.
Go to Russia and see what happens to you

I couldn't care less what people do with their time, but raising kids is so dicey and is supposed to be even. Man and Woman. Not a man who thinks he is one, or a woman trapped in a mans body. How can anyone say it won't make the slightest difference? Growing up in a Gay environment will lean that kid towards it, you must have equilibrium... It does influence no matter what anyone says... I don't feel its right. But who am I to judge?
I am Atheist, I Abhor religious indoctrination, but I strongly feel a kid needs male and female for a realistic approach
You didn't really make any argument here. Why are the gender of the parents important? And if they are, are gay people not able to show characteristics of both males and females? It indeed CAN be 'even' in that way, as you described it. But going back, why is this 'equilibrium' important? Growing up in a 'gay environment' will lean kids toward it? Are you serious??? Most if not all gay people are born to heterosexual couples - nothing leaned them towards it other than the fact that they were born that way. Your ignorance is astonishing.
yet studies show that gay parents do give a child a realistic approach to life
D. Selfridge so what you are saying is that when a women gives birth to a child , the doctor takes a look at him and take a few blood and says to the mother , madame your kid is gay , now can you tell me since you are so convinced that people are born gay , what are the hormones or the characteristics that a gay person is born with ,and how does it change from men to women .
gouazar tarik Firstly you assume science knows everything when of course there is much that science does not know yet. You cannot come to a conclusion without evidence. I have no evidence and neither do you. But that doesn't make *you* correct by default. But let's put evidence aside for a moment, since we have none to prove either arguments, and let's think logically. If being gay was a choice, that means all of us have the choice to be gay including yourself. Are you telling me right now that you can easily be attracted to a man if you wanted to? Of course that's impossible. You can't look at someone and "decide" to be attracted to them. You are either attracted or you aren't, and these attractions cannot be switched on or off. If this simple principle is something you cannot understand, you are either unintelligent or bigoted.
Finally how can you claim to know how someone else feels? You couldn't possibly know what it is like to be gay if you've never been in that persons' shoes therefore you have no right to judge them.
gouazar tarik Once again no evidence, just your opinion. It does not fall into that "category," stop spouting nonsense
I can say through experience that gay ppl should not raise kids, sorry but that's how I feel from what I've seen and been through. Kids need both biological parents where ever possible. Both my mum and sister are lesbian. My sister has 2 kids.
He deserved that punch in the face he got in Moscow.
Please elaborate. Specifically as to why?
@@SuperDanfarr Probably a homophobe.
Couldn't he be bothered to wear a tie....
he is a she , and that she was a he , and the he and the she are both there but none of them is dominant so the guy is something in between , yuk
1GoldRunner well our experiences in life makes us who we are , and who we are can be influenced by us and by people around us and by mass media , if you tell me that somebody is born some way and lived for what 20 or 30 years with that way he she is born still intact i am going to have to call you an idiot , no offense xD , like it or not we all have our flaws , nobody is perfect , but some people are trying to spread those flaws into other people and that is what bothers me the most , when a personal choice is turned into a trend , and every mother wishes her child is gay , and movie stars get excited when they get a gay couple for neighbors , they marketing this idea to everyone , those kind of things are highly influential to the public , so if you are gay good for you it does not concern me unless agendas are made to influence the society i want my children to grow up in .
1GoldRunner okay , lets assume for one second that everybody turned gay ,what would happen to society ?
1GoldRunner you really think that homosexuality can save earth from over population LOL that is actually funny because according to experts we are producing enough to feed 21 billion people , the problem is not the lack of resources but it is that people in the US are just too fat , while people are starving to death others spends millions of dollars on perfume and beauty products and luxury cars , our planet can easily feed us all , while we already have birth control , homosexuality adds nothing at all , just like a man masturbating in public and saying it is for the greater good , homosexuality should not be a public matter like it is now , it is a personal choice that society has no business interfering in nor knowing about .
+1GoldRunner yeah Russian scientists said in the 70's that the earth could easily support 20 billion people if managed properly. We grow enough food annually to feed 12 billion people, just most of it ends up in the bin. You might actually want to wonder why they lie to you about overpopulation and and promote the things they do. Yes oligarchs have your best interests at heart lol. Are you aware that 6 corporations control 95% of the information you read or hear. The mainstream media is there to tell you what to think, who to love and hate and what causes are important for humanity, except it's all for the benefit of the international cabal of oligarchs who want to mould humanity as they see fit. You really think they need 7 billion slaves when most of the manual labour can be done with machines, computers and robots? This is about control of the masses by the few and they look upon us as cattle.
and now he's not gay. he's with a woman
He's bisexual you idiot
Have you heard of bisexuality dumbass?
@@giara1615 yea but he was saying he's gay, that's different than bisexual
