    As a lifelong fan and guitarist (thanks to the very early inspiration from Paul) I think this is the best band he's had in his post-Beatle career. And this performance was off the charts. Paul was in great voice on this one, and obviously thankful to be playing in the same theatre where it all started. Robbie (formerly from The Pretenders) and Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), are premiere seasoned musicians that bring so much to this band. Blair Cunningham, who has played drums with a plethora of great artists including Lionel Richie, Tina Turner and Roxy Music to name a few, is the balls of this band. And not to forget Wix Wickens on keys who adds all the layers that dress up these tunes so beautifully. And of course, Linda. She was the love of his life and I'm still saddened by her passing. Some are critical of her being in the band, but honestly it would not be the same (and is not) without her.
    My life would have never been the same either without Sir Paul McCartney and his brilliant artistry. It was a joy to watch this superb performance from one of the greatest songwriters from the 20th Century - and beyond.

I never heard music like the Beatles came up with before. They always surprised us, very innovative, arrangements with instruments that we never heard before! The Beatles creativity was never ending. When I heard they were breaking up, the tears flowed! This just can't be, the Beatles are forever! Thank God that Paul and Ringo are still here and making Music!

      One of the great composers of the 20th Century.
      A very good not great singer.
      As a guitar player he has a major impact on the rock bass.
      But people like Prince and Stevie Wonder are better overall musicians.

    • @DavidCKendall
      @DavidCKendall  7 лет назад +21

      Ditto Greg!, and @Billodnh, you had me then you lost me. You may be a consumate rock music critic, second to none, but my ears know which records I want to reach for and listen to over and over. There can only be one 'Beatles'. They led -- everything else followed and was influenced by them. They invented sound that everyone else copied, and you can't take that away from Paul. Not only a great composer, but innovator as well.

    • @Billodnh
      @Billodnh 7 лет назад +3

      With The Beatles Paul had a little help from his friends. He's a very good musician but he is not Itzhak Perlman or Jimi Hendrix. But they could not write a pop song like Paul. He was an innovator on rock bass as I implied. But he is not say Jaco Pastorius. Paul's genius, yes the word is appropriate, is in his writing. But I'm confident that Paul would point out the many jazz musicians who can play rings around him. It's one thing to be an appreciative fan and another to be a syncophant.

    • @jymcaputo
      @jymcaputo 7 лет назад +4

      you must be an ass Billodnh? Only a dick would draw a comparison between Paul and Jaco OR EVEN THINK OF SUCH A RIDICULOUS COMPARISON. Why not just acknowledge a given artist for the innovations they may provide. Paul was a song writer.....everything else he did on the bass and even vocally was secondary to his contributions as a songwriter. Very few musicians make truly unique contributions......Paul may be one as a versatile songwriter, possibly Hendrix, Freddie Mercury, Hubert Laws, Perlman, Miles, Charlie, Herbie.......frankly 99% of all musicians no matter how famous they are made a career doing something they stole from someone else.

I find feet disgusting, but I agree on the count of McCartney (of Lennon-McCartney)'s feet because they are the only ones I would actively beg to get a morsel of).
      There was nobody more cucked for McCartney than Lennon (of Lennon McCartney), you better believe it. In the 70s, he thought they were connected on a spiritual level and visited one another in dreams. Now THAT's what I call cucked. That is why it is so funny. When the likes of you... david bailey, phillip norman, and countless others, shaft McCartney for his cuckhold friend John (Lennon, of Lennon-McCartney), when the truth is, Lennon was the biggest McCuntney cuck the world has ever seen. And I would know, being the second.
      I also hate McCartney and his music like nobody's buisness, and yet here I am, listening to it over and over, watching mind numbing 40+minute raw footage interviews, hating every second of it, all because I am a big fat fucking cuck. (Like John Lennon (of Lennon-McCartney).

    It was fascinating to hear Paul McCartney do a different rendition of one of their old numbers, Can't Buy Me Love, in the style of an old Irish folk tune, with the picking style done by one of his other lead guitar players in this performance, and the accordion backing here, coming out of a segue from Michelle.
    It really shows his tremendous diversity to rearrange his own numbers and his mastery to be flexible.
    This is also shown quite a bit in the new Beatles documentary, Get Back. As McCartney shows his tremendous ability, with instantaneous songwriting abilities.
    There's a scene in one of the second or third parts of the documentary with Billy Preston on keyboards and their rehearsing one of John's future numbers for the Abbey Road album already, I Want You. McCartney is sitting in the middle of the studio with an electric base he's playing lap slide style. Everyone should see this rehearsal session.
    The others are all joining in and it's truly an experiment in jazz fusion style, with a lot of improvising which shows their ability to be great improvisational Jazz musicians as much as pop rock, classical, and so many other diversities of styles.

    Why does everybody have to rate musical greats with other musical greats? None of them are in competition and often play on the same albums or on stage together. But there's always somebody who says this guitar player is better than that one, or singer sounded better in his younger years.
    Paul and the Beatles were so innovative in what they did for pop music and very innovative because of what they did in the studio. Some will say it wasn't them as much as it was George Martin, but he only made the ideas they had work. Same with the engineers. John would say he wanted his voice to sound like it was under water and they came up with a way to do it. The thing is, things like that changed how the recording process was done. Paul said they wanted every song to sound unique. Most bands have a certain sound but not the Beatles. Each song had it's own sound.
    Paul and John wrote over nearly 400 songs together, in their years together. They also each wrote their own songs after the Beatles broke up. For the most part, they kept the same unique style going, giving each song it's own identity and sound. These unique sounds became a Beatles trademark.
    Musicians will tell you they were watching Ed Sullivan when the Beatles were on and that made them want to be musicians. I was one of those. I think you can safely say any of the present great musicians of today can say the same thing. The Beatles brought a different style of music to life and it stirred the urge in several thousand kids to be like them.
    I can mention many great musicians in great bands who credit the Beatles for getting them into music. Members of Kansas, Transatlantic and Flying Colors, the Eagles and on and on. If you were to ask most any musician today, under the age of 65 or so, they were in front of their TV set watching the Beatles.
    Those who are quite a bit younger than that still have benefited from the Beatles, in the studio and in instrumentation of songs, and even harmonies. Pop music as a whole owes an awful lot to the Beatles as a group and as individuals. Singularly, they all went out and made their own mark after the Beatles, in one way or another. They took their fans with them and created even more musicians out of many of them.
    So, I don't care who can sound better at bass than Paul, or sing better. Both of those are opinions and everybody has one. Music is that way. Everybody has likes and dislikes and that's OK. But you don't go around saying one guy is better than the other, because he's not better...he's just different.
    Paul has been doing what he does for many years. God willing, he'll be doing it for many more. In the process, he'll be gaining more young fans who have never heard of the Beatles and maybe they will want to be a musician after hearing one of his songs. I don't care how good someone else is at playing an instrument. If you can inspire someone to be a musician just by playing music yourself, that's a very special skill to have. Just count the musicians the Beatles have inspired, or the ones Paul has inspired. So, not only do we have Paul's music to listen to, we also have the music of all of those he inspired. Now if that isn't a wonderful legacy, I don't know what is.
    Thank you Paul, for inspiring me that night in 1964, on the Ed Sullivan stage with John, George and Ringo. I'll be forever grateful for my ability to play and write music. I might have done it on my own, if I hadn't heard you play, but maybe not. I shudder to think how my life would have been, without music.

    Great. Macca clearly having a great time and his voice was in fine form. Great show! I saw him in Tampa stadium in 1990 or '91 and when he did Live And Let Die and the explosions went off, the whole sky lit up and the place went bat shit crazy...at show's end Paul thanked the city for letting him "Put on our little light show." Heh, you would have thought a war had broke out. Extremely dramatic. Feel honored to have seen him perform live.

      It's good and not current. Linda lives.
      Not yet had he lost her no heartache then wasn't road blocking his creative path.
      With, or without Linda, or his deceased play pal John,
      Paul slid through time and musical marathoning as though both Brian Epstein, and George Martin weren't dead having secretly joined in waving at
      Paul and this lineup in greatness with their approval🏅🎧🎤🎸
      saying you still got it, your 🆗 Paul...
      As he bass strums beating his heart and strumming strings grooving away with percussion upkeep... Smiling more intently bringing sound to those lying in the ground but draws up energy to invite dwellers of the grave to one more time entertain those who helped to make his way...

    Michelle is sung and played very well here. Some music critics have bashed this great song but I always liked it a lot. It has a simple beautiful melody. I also find the folky rendition of "Can't Buy Me Love" very different and interesting. Paul was the most musical of The Beatles and music comes so easily to him that it is easy for some to dismiss his huge talent.

I have their 1975 Rock 'n Roll History that states that Michele is the only weak track on Rubber Soul. But that's nothin' -- It also states that the Beatles were not among the true titans of rock. They claim that title belongs to Dylan and the Stones.

    Great show! Guns and Roses had just covered "Live and let die" back then and they did a great job but I still always prefer the original version, Paul's amazing!

    This was the band lineup when I saw him in Toronto in the early 90's at the old CNE Stadium. Fantastic concert.
