Paul McCartney released his 18th solo album Egypt Station on Friday (September 7) and gave New York City fans a little treat.
As Rolling Stone reports, around 200 people, ranging from close friends to total strangers, filled Vanderbilt Hall - a chamber off the main commuter concourse of Grand Central Terminal. Meryl Streep, Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, Jimmy Fallon and Jon Bon Jovi were all there.
The former Beatle was filming a RUclips livestream concert and wanted to make sure it went smoothly, so he gave the crowd instructions. His plan was to begin the broadcast alone, with the audience in complete silence. “Then I’ll just move a little more over this way and sing, ‘Hey Jude…'” he explained. “And you’ll sing, ‘Don’t make it bad…’ And that’s your big moment!” Only, that was its only moment. Aside from the intro tease, he didn't play the iconic song.
The living legend of course was there to promote his new album, but the special show's set list only contained a few Egypt Station songs - relying mostly on old classics.

I saw him perform Wings over America tour in the late 70s ..AMAZING!! 100 years from now he will be up there with Beethoven, and Mozart. Our generation will be remembered because we were privileged enough to witness it.Think about that when listening and seeing him perform. A time capsule of OUR life.

When they went to America, they were in the top five of the charts ... it's likely that will never happen again. And the waiting for their new songs, five times in the record shop, until they were finally there. It was a fantastic time that I would never want to miss!

I was extremely fortunate to get tickets to see Paul for my 41st birthday. I'll never forget seeing Paul in person and experiencing the performance of many legendary songs. His tribute to George was A M A Z I N G! I don't think there was a dry eye in the whole stadium - Lambeau Field, baby! Helter Skelter was more metal than I'd previously realized. Live and Let Live was amazing with all the pyro and I don't think a single person was sitting during that song. Oh, when he hit that first chord in Hey, Jude... I bet everyone had goosebumps. For a moment we were all family and there wasn't a woe in the world. I'm grateful for my gift of Paul.

As time goes by, you can hear that "old man warble" in his voice more & more on the relaxed portions like in Let It Be but when he kicks out the loud vocals in the lyrics like in parts of I've Got A Feeling he still sounds the same decades later. I saw them ~20 years ago back in Vegas & he/they kicked ass non-stop. The drummer Abe knocks me out. He's a show by himself. Outstanding show! I can't wait to see the 'Get Back' doc/series coming up!

God has given me a wonderful life so far - a beautiful childhood and adolescence, when I, living in a socialist country (Czechoslovakia - now I say fortunately :-)) I first heard the name Elvis Presley and the group Shadows on Radio Luxembourg.
Then between a stream of quite uninteresting songs suddenly something completely new and refreshing sounded - and I didn't know who it was. So, when this new, musically really nice style came up again, I started watching the band's name - and it was called BEATLES! I accidentally found them for myself! Then I adored them for years and enjoyed their beautiful music for many years - even while studying medicine in Prague. I am now 74 years old and I enjoy their music just like when I was young.I even bought a guitar after 40 years and I try to play and sing Ticket to Ride :-) I'm really happy to see a lot of young people at this amazing concert.
Thank you Paul, John, George, Ringo for still gilding my old years. Thank you ALL, and to you Paul and Ringo good health! Francis Lakatos.

I think this is his best band since the beatles. I saw the wings over America tour. It was great! The same with the band he had when I saw him in 1990. But this band he has had for the last 20 years is outstanding!

I was at that show in 1990...Tripping The Live Fantastic, and i still have the double live CD from that show. Paul Wickens was in his band then too, he's the only one still in it now.

Thank you Paul, you are a young man. God bless you. I'm 76, I'm from Portugal. For who doubts that the Beatles are the most impactful rock band ever? When they appeared they almost silenced all the music that was around, with their irreverence and rebellion they even socially revolutionized the youth. We were still at the beginning of the affirmation of rock music, we weren't expecting that much! They didn't assert themselves just for the rhythm, they composed melodies that will remain forever in the History of Music. Symphony orchestras from all over the world will always come here to look for material to work with. (Martz Inura thanks)

Amazing, simply amazing. I'm 55 years old, seventh child of my family, then I have older siblings who we're deeply in love with The Beatles, so I can say I've heard their wonderful music even from my mom's womb, and I am certain I will never get tired of listening to them. And watching Sir Paul's rendition is absolutely fantastic. Great.

Paul, you're still the best and this band you have is the best as well, the guitars fantastic, the keyboard so good, the big and nice drummer the best not to forget the crew were all fabulous. Nobody really cared about your voice because everybody listened to you singing with the same love you did the first day you did it, thank you Paul and all the rest, thank you a zillion times.

Besides being a great song writer and musician, he really is a natural born entertainer.
He holds the stage like few others and manages to still come across humble.

I get very emotional when I watch Sir Paul now days. I have been blessed to have been able to grow up with the Beatles in my life since the late 60's. Paul inspired me to learn the acoustic guitar, He's my Beethoven.
