I cut up the mesh bags that come with potatoes or onions, wash them and use to cover the hole of terracotta pots. They allow water to pass through, but keep the potting medium contained in the pot.
I buy yards of cheap plastic and very thin and flexible mosquitoes net at the Hardware store. I only have to cut the pieceI I need and place it at the bottom of the pot. Works perfect. Holds the substrate and let the water go.
Rust-Oleum makes a clear gloss spray that I use to make my terracotta pots glazed on the inside, I just give them a couple coats until I build it up to the look that I want. That way I can keep the look of terracotta on the outside with the properties of plastic/ceramic on the inside. It's cheaper because I can use the cheap $1-2 pots vs having to search for ones that are already glazed! I do the same for the saucers so they don't absorb the water.
I miss it chicken n I watched the doves n now you have a dove n I love it n may I say you have the most beautiful flourishing plants and I enjoy your vlogs immensely ♥️🙏🐓🕊️
When I need a glazed base for my terra cotta pots, I have used wax from a candle to coat the inside of the base to keep water from seeping thru the clay
With the holes on terracotta pots I was always taught to find a irregular shaped stone or few to place over it so some water goes through but slowly and little to no substrate. It's always worked for me. I think they do it on some UK gardening TV shows I watched a child.
Yeah, growing up gardening my mam told me to place a "crock" (bit of broken pottery) in the bottom. It's to allow water flow but prevent the soil falling out. Nice channel you have, I love fishes.
Summer, your videos are so informative and at the same time so entertaining. I’ve only recently subscribed and am no playing catch-up watching all your videos. They are all superb
Talking about Hoyas putting out new growth, all of mine are going crazy. Ironically my Callistophylla is about to bloom! My first hoya bloom and I'm excited! 🥰
My boyfriend just asked me if you drank soil water at the end 😆 Thanks again Summer for the video. Funny enough, I just potted the same Hoya 20 minutes ago 😅
Could you make video about repotting carnivorous plants? I have several and am afraid I may kill them trying yo repot them. Especially my really large Nepenthe pitcher plant.
Can you do a video about skylights and plants? My apartment windows are all skylights and it's hard to find information about the differences in light compared to regular windows.
I love the patterning on your Hoya cutting, and what a beautiful name too ~ 'callistophylla'!...I think I now have Hoya envy :) That is such a good tip about soaking terracotta pots before planting up. I was just thinking that epiphyte roots must be quite special to be able to absorb nutrients from such a large-particle loose open mix ~ I guess they have unusual adaptations. Always highly informative content Summer ~ thank you 🌿
Coir or husk? That looks more like husk. Coir rots hoyas for me, but the husk is my absolute favorite. I've even started adding it to my other plants that love water but not being wet. ❤
I have a Hoya compacta and a curtisii growing by a south facing window and both of them grow their tendrils away from the window for some reason 🤷🏻♀️. Maybe the light is too harsh but they are not even sun stressed.
Thank you Summer. Great tip about using coconut's "jícaras" (as we call them around here) in our plants because the salt they might contain. Wonderful information considering that here in the Tropics, must of the coconut trees grow closed to the ocean. Never thought of that. Thanks again, from the Dominican Republic.
My hoyas somehow hate repotting. They die as soon as their roots get disturbed. ¿Any advice? I've tried to do it as fast as possible and as gentle I can and still, they wouldn't make it. Maybe only take all the substrate with the roots inside (no root bound) and place it in a 1+ size pot.
Ahh... so creating roots, in general, would have better success where it is warmer, as opposed to a North window? The red shimmers through the green leaves, so pretty. As for the comment about the hat, it might start a fad, like we all put on hats when we watch you or... go out. BTW I have on a knit cap. Just embroider 2 doves on it and let it fly. 🕊️🕊️😄
Good morning ….. Summer … quick one … can you please refer me some App related to … when I scan a plant … that so called app can suggest me the plants name … where it grows best … etc …🙏🙏… thank you
Hello, sometimes I wonder about the fact that we buy plants because it makes us feel good but I wonder if we are a little selfish to put them in an environment that is not their environment?

Can you provide a link to those guards that cover the pot holes?
