    Hey everyone! We figured we'd give out another small sample for the extended content from our Patreon, since sparring videos will be a little different. Julian, our editor, will be going over 3 exchanges and giving out play-by-plays. You can check that out here! - ruclips.net/video/Ua5JobgKWtM/видео.html
    That's not to say that we won't be doing any regular videos with commentary, no those will still happen.

      You show a lot of weapons, longswords especially.
      As a dark souls fan, I'd like to see things like the Estoc to see if they would be as effective as it is in dark souls 3.

    As for me real sparring of HEMA looks much more exciting than holywood stage sword fighting. Stage sword fighting in 99% cases looks as totall stupidness. HEMA should be used in movies.

      We have to split cinema fights from Real fights. a Real duel is fast and dirty, and only a skilled swordsman could do it making it spectacular and comprehensible for the people at the same time.
      for this, I suggest you to seek Adorea, a coreographical fencing school which is awesome in this

      The Star Wars prequels actually feature a number of historical techniques, especially in the Mustafar duel. With some...exceptions.

      Sceptis sparring videos take the longest to edit, so for now once a month is all we can do. But they're not going anywhere!

    I'm happy to see the red circles on the contact points, I suggested it on another video and now you do it :). Don't know if you actually listened to me or took it from another source but it's good to see you try to improve. Keep the good work up! Thanks for creating such amazing videos :)

      Acepunydefoc I usually use them actually, I thought that with the commentary it wasn't entirely necessary. But I'll make sure to just generally keep them in.

    Kevin is nimble and has great positioning, but he never strikes with enough strength so his blows are easily deflected. I love his style though.
    He's got a shitton of potential to become a great master.

    You guys need to make a hit detection system for your swords similar to that of olympic fencing, its so hard to tell whos hitting who and when.

    • @jaketheasianguy3307
      @jaketheasianguy3307 3 года назад

      It works in olympic fencing because those car antena they are using is very light, not even close to a real sword. If you put those detectors on HEMA gears, they will be broken really fast since practice longsword, messer, sabre...are very identical to the real thing, the blows from them will be too much. Besides, detector will signal the moment sword in contact with the clothes, so a light tap would trigger it and no one wants that since a proper cut that severed human limbs must have proper rotation

    This isn't meant as a criticism or anything but why are tip cuts considered to be insufficient contact in scoring? Judging by other HEMA content creators' tests it seems to be the most effective means of defeating 'light' armour such as gambeson which would be in line with a cut centric approach, to me it seems as though the most effective strike earns no points... or did I misunderstand something?...

    • @BloodandIronHEMA
      @BloodandIronHEMA  7 лет назад +7

      enoughofyourkoicarp The tip can sometimes get through heavy clothing, but that's about it. Tip cuts against a lot of medium get stopped quickly due to the lack of structure in that part of a blade and the quantity of material is has to get through. So you'd get through the fabric, but that's about it. The rest of the sword is just as effective at cutting heavy clothing, providing your cutting mechanics are good. We proved this in an earlier cutting video where Sean and Lee cut through a Gambison sleeve through a tatami mat. You should check it out

    • @breaden4381
      @breaden4381 7 лет назад

      You guys do Meyer right? If so, at that time longswords for the most part didn't have very wide tips, which are important for tip cutting.

    • @cihancakal4963
      @cihancakal4963 5 лет назад

      And this is blossfecthen so a tip cut would still be a nice gash

  • @DERyuga
    @DERyuga 7 лет назад

    can you do the slow downs after you show the original contact? Its a little disappointing to have it slow down right when something is going to happen. I get including it for a sake of clarity but you can always do that afterwards. Its a small nitpick but it is a little annoying. Great video otherwise, I always love to see sparring showcases.

    • @HEMASimian
      @HEMASimian 7 лет назад +1

      DERyuga Yeah, finding a format that works for everyone is a little rough. While I agree that it'd be better for each isolated exchange to have the slow mo after, I believe this way helps each exchange flow into the next better, in my opinion. Especially if score is being counted. I'm still playing around with it and doubt I'll come up with a standardized format.

    none of you use actually good looking gear, smh. seriously, blood and iron still uses oldschool hema gear (aside from the feders maybe) and it all looks to clunky and padded and all that awkward early longsword armour stuff.
    you guys still go with the old thing hema fencers used to do a few years earlier, which is "as much protection as humanly possible." you dont need the skirts, the fencing trousers are fine. that much leg armour? do you really get hit on the leg that hard that commonly? still using the spes heavy gloves? those things are MASSIVE and so fricking heavy, and the cuffs on them make your target area so much bigger. almost all your jackets are these old versions, which i dont blame you for not changing, buying a jacket every year certainly isnt all that economical. but a lot of you do use the destroy modz gorget as far as i remember, so theres that, the only modern piece of kit you use is the one we dont see.
    quick tip for aesthetics: when buying for example shin guards, go for things that really look anatomical, you know that fencer look, go for it man. especially with the baggy hema trousers and anatomical shin guards/socks combined, it looks so good.
    look like a swordsman, not a teddy bear with plastic limbs.
