When you release music through a distributor and they put it on YT, it goes to a topic channel. With DistroKid you can claim that topic channel with your current YT channel and get an official artist channel which also opens up some things and of course adds any music you distribute to your current channel.
You can have up to 3 songs that are under 10 minutes each and still maintain single status. After that it would go up to EP if it’s between 4 to 6 songs (and under 30 minutes total run time). And anything above that is considered an album.
Yeah I thought I would record the process in case some newer subscribers would be interested and never saw the previous video. Have you released anything through them yet? Thank you for continuing to watch. Keep creating! 👊👍
@audio tech tv...Good afternoon.. I uploaded a single to distrokid and when I hit preview there was no audio just the cover... would you might know what to do?
Have you tried refreshing the page just to make sure it wasn’t a glitch with the browser or maybe time needed to process the audio? If there still isn’t audio contact DistroKid and let them know what’s going on. They can fix things like this.
great video!! what if i want to release a single that contains 1-3 songs. since some artists’ releases a “single” with 1-4 songs, does distrokid have this option?
I don’t think it’s DistroKid that sets it as “single” “ep” or “album”. Spotify, iTunes and the individual stores. It’s an automatic thing based on track count and run time. So I don’t think you can specify that it’s a single on those platforms but when you promote it on your social media channels you can call it a 4 track single. I’ve seen people call 3 track releases EPs. However you want to promote it is up to you.
Hi Zane, I still don't understand how you can upload COVERS to Distrokid for possible income on RUclips when All covers that I've uploaded over the past 7 years have been ad copyrighted by the big gun companies of the artists I have covered ? Okay, So I'm just an amateur BUT from what you are saying here is that I could take ALL my covers on my channel and upload them to Distrokid with a New Name and make possible finance from them ? How can that be if RUclips come down on me like a ton of bricks every single time I upload a COVER and state This cover cannot be monetised and then they put ads on all of them for their own revenue ? Please can you explain and thanks
When you upload through DistroKid you have to go through the process of getting the license for the song which DistroKid walks you through. Once you have that license and they upload it to RUclips then you have a license to use that song so you can monetize it. When you just upload to RUclips without acquiring a license then you do not have the rights to use that song therefore the person who does have the rights can monetize your video because it is their song. It does cost extra money to get the license ($12) per song. So you may want to try it with 1 or two of your more popular songs first.
@@AudioTechTV thank you for that Zane, now I understand but unfortunately most of my covers were song under the influence of morphine for a lengthy kidney cancer recovery lol so I may actually do them again as my vocals have got better and higher and clearer than being zonked out on painkillers. You have inspired me actually to start doing a mix of covers and originals but $12 would take quite some time to recover from ad revenue and I suppose it's a bit like magix music maker loops from magix to use them retail. I suppose it would be better to create an obscure name on Distrokid compared to RUclips, ... maybe .. ok you have inspired me this Saturday morning in New Zealand. Is it worth dabbling in bandlab or others or straight to Distrokid? And how to you find people who want to collab ? I'm so new to this thing as I've only done music for the buzz it gives. Thanks Zane
I don’t really know where you would go to find people to collab with other than in real life places. You can try some fb groups for music making. Maybe Reddit posts. But if you start making music and posting it maybe people will approach you to collab with them. Which is something you could try, maybe find another artist that’s not a huge star and see if they would like to collab. For other spots to post music I like to use Bandcamp. It’s the only other place I use other than DistroKid stores.
If you are releasing the exact same song, its the same edit and nothing has changed. You can include it in your track listing for your album and where it says "already got an isrc code?" (in the audio upload section) click on that and then paste the isrc code in the box that appears. You still attach the audio to the track but this will show that it's the same song and all of the spins for that song will get recorded as one no matter if someone listened to the single or the album. If this is a newly mastered version or some sort of updated version you can put in the "version" section something like "Album Version" or "Re-Mastered". Something along those lines.
Reference your Question over YOUR genre of music in The Electric Shark then is there such a thing as INDIE POP ? I think you might fit in there. I'll subscribe to your music channel and make it 38 but my subscriptions are all public. Indie Pop sounds COOL. Have a FAB weekend Zane
I don’t know if Indie Pop is an option on there but I appreciate the feedback and will have to check to see if that’s an option next time. Thank you for continuing to watch. Keep creating! 👊👍

you are so nice and helpful, watched a bunch of your videos already, subscribing
Hi great video, I was wondering is there a way of adding a B side and mentaining the single status

Mmm different angle 😉

Is it possible to let my singles on yt music (with distrokid) appear without being single-video-playlists?
Trouble is, I already downloaded the Creepers song the other day with YT Downloader. 😎
Firefox Downloader add on by DISHITA is pretty cool
