- Pakistan Tour of West Indies will always be remembered as one of the most hardly fought and contested series in test Series. West Indies Were a super power in Cricket at that time and Havent Lost a Test Series since 1975. Pakistan Came Very Close in Beating Them. With Series Locked at 1-1 West Indies Batsmen hung around to end a very exciting Drawn Series. Pakistan Will have to wait till 2017 to taste their first Test Series Victory in West Indies. Imran Khan was Man of the Series. A few decisions didnt went Pakistan way otherwise they would have been victorious.
This video is rarer than a unicorn. I didnt know it even existed. Any other footage from that series would be greatly appreciated. THIS IS GOLD.

for this loss, don't blame umpires much. The huge blame goes to Imran himself. He bowled 6 overs and had Salim Jaffer bowl 5-6 overs only. Qadir was overkilled with 32 overs and conceded 115, especially in the closing segment of the game when Dujon took him on for 2 massive sized, should have been replaced.
To date, I fail to understand why Imran did not use Mudassir Nazar, Salim Jaffer and himself to share the bowling load of Wasim and Qadir. Out of 268 needed for WI to win, both bowlers conceded 188. Mudassar Nazar took 2 wickets for 24 runs off his 10 overs in 1st innings. Ahh Imran, why.....
Was Imran injured in the 4th Innings?

West Indies were at their peak in the late 70s and early 80s. Viv Richards and Gordon Greenidge were 36 years old in 1988.
Yeah. My dad says this series should have been the wake up call for the authorities in the WI to put things in place to maintain or dominance. Because it meant that at keast one team was catching up. But the WICB did nothing. They essentially uned every single drop of oil in one well before looking to drill others. And we have never recovered

Players like Lawrence Rowe, Alvin Kallicharan, Collis King and Andy Roberts blame Clive for having an agenda this is never ending.
Gordon was 37; he is a year older than Viv, but Viv still batted brilliantly his actuall decline was post 1988 when his carrer avg dropped from 53.88 (after 100 tests) to 50.25...Odi avg from 54 to 48...
Players like Viv, Kapil overstayed to ruin their figures.
Even in 1988 at the age of 35 Imran was a champion bowler. This series was an ultimate contest.

Correct...Pakistan were also helped by the fact that West Indies were on a decline with Viv and Gordon were over 35 36 and 37 to be precise...Andy Roberts, Michael Holding and Joe Garner too retired by the time but they got decent replacments too....
But Pakistan has a brilliant team in those days hard to beat..

@@Warlock786 I concur with you they were still a top notch side well even till early 1990's they remianed no.1 in the rankings but its not about rankings alone again towards later 1980's their aura started to dipp fair bit...Viv dropped himself from no.3 is perhaps among the worst ideas ever a slot where he avg. 62 after 4000 test runs and 13 tons...
As i said they got replacements but Walsh great bowler not the same like a Andy Roberts and Michael Holding running in Barbados but a decent bolwer and was sharp then....I disagree that Ambrose was at peak of his powers from my memories he just debut in the same season and was a mere rockie at the time....Both Marshall and Viv Richards missed the opening game where Pak hammered Windies....
Richie Richardson was a brilliant player but not in same league as of Viv or even Greenidge especially not a player for whom Viv should be demoted from no.3....
It was actually a series between the West Indies and Australia, which Australia refused to play

I heard that in second test match , Viv was plumbed LBW on Imran khan,s bowl but was not given out and then he scored a century. Saleem Youssef had a few words with Viv at that time and Imran asked the umpire to take notice of this. If he was given LBW, result of the series would have been different

Pakistan would have won the series 2-0 but couldnt cause of atrocious West Indian umpiring.
At last I found a video proof on this series, would always wonder whether this clash of the Titans ever took place for real !!! Cant be more thankful for this upload. Very very well done & last but not the least: We want more from this series. For sure we do :p

Back then CBC Tv Barbados used to video tape the games and broadcast live the session of play after tea. That was the voice of Andy Thornhill (who worked for CBC during that time) on the video

The dream that Imran had, to beat wi in wi was shattered by many not so nice decisions by umpires. This was a norm by home sides. Thankfully TV broad cast wasn't good enough. Otherwise many record holders around the globe would have been ashamed to face their children.

This series marked the rise of Pakistan as a world beating side. One of the first maybe only team to draw against the windies at home during their reign at the top. Pakistan should have won this series if it was'nt for the biased umpiring

The Best Part I liked about the Courage and Grim Determination of the West Indies Cricketers. Winston Benjamin who is Basically a Bowler ,made life miserable for Wasim Akram,Imran Khan,Abdul Qadir Etc. On the other hand overconfidence of Imran Khan and his team mates was the main reason why Pakistan Lost. Congratulations to Winston Benjamin and Jeff Dujon for showing Courage to take West Indies to Victory and level the Series. Imran Khan's dream of Defeating West Indies in Pakistan remained unfilled. @@timcampbell1540 Pak reduced them to 80/4 too If i recall but Viv Richards take it away from them; Wasim also got wayaward to scare Viv kept bowling bouncers and beamers from 20 yards that settle Viv..
You have to believe Viv and Gordon were also in twilight of their carrers; with Roberts, Holding, Garner and Croft werent around that was not same Windies side like between 1978 to 1984..Curtly was also a young kid.

why there is no footage of cricket matches in west indies before 1990? I mean there were no TV rights or something? Considering we have lots of TV footages of NZ, PAK, INDIA, AUS, ENG, why not WI on internet?

I still remember at that time I was a kid in school with passion of cricket listening to the commentary on transistor radio in the bed with difficulty understanding WI accent commentary and remember after every over a Pakistan radio personality explain a bit in Urdu for the listeners. I wish I could have the whole series footage

IK bravely used neutral umpires in 1986 series but WI didn't and both series ended in 1-1 even next series also ended in 1-1 tied in 1990 No one can beat PAK, WI, NZ in any test series in80s in home ground The 2nd test was more exciting then the 2 of three test ended when PAK needed 34 runs with one wicket left

The argument stopped the match, and footage of the English cricket captain and the umpire shouting at each other with fingers pointed in each other's faces was widely broadcast. Rana accused Gatting of cheating and both were accused of using foul language, much of which was heard by a worldwide TV audience via the stump microphone.[2] Shakoor refused to stand again in that Test until he received an unconditional apology from Gatting for the language used in the dispute. Gatting was threatened with being stripped of the England captaincy and was forced into issuing a written apology to Rana. Gatting issued a written apology and has since expressed regret at his part in the row.[2]
from 1980 to 1995 WI was unbeated in test series but in this series they almost defeated by pakistan.... that 9th wkt partnership of 60+ saved WI..........what a gr8 test series that was...........have must say some umpiring decision were questionable which went against pakistan
And? The WI had been the victims of poor umpiring too. Javed Miandad was never given out LBW in Pakistan for example. And even in the era of so called neutral umpires, Brian Lara was wrongfully given out in 3 out of 4 innings in Australia in 2006. That they were the beneficiaries of one or two debatable decisions does not diminish their fifteen year unbeaten run

Current Pak team is nowhere around the team of 90's . They just play to amass wealth and prolong their careers.
Only Aussie and Indian umpires were criticized for their cheating. But West Indies umpires were no longer behind. But pure gold video is uploaded indeed.
And Pakistani umpires were famous for their fair decisions, of course.

So, this match was actually broadcast (albeit in Barbados)? Lucky for all those people on the island to witness this, as it has taken 30+ years for a few minutes of it to surface on the internet via RUclips. Question is: why have CBC TV Barbados withheld footage of one of the most memorable test matches/test series of all time? Surely it's about time to release it.
@Kanto Bein Yeah, I read somewhere that since Sky Sports covered the 1990 England tour of West Indies that tv broadcasts started to pick up in the Caribbean.
So were there tv broadcasts of other home series in the '80s? There was leaked footage of Viv Richards (then) fastest century in 1986, with Henry Blofeld commentating, but that video is no longer on RUclips. Have always wanted to see Patrick Patterson's debut from the same series, which apparently scared the crap out of the English batsmen.

Neutral umpire would have changed the outcome of this test.
Pakistan dropped catches , and the blatant cheating of WI umpires, made WI draw the series, otherwise Pakistan had won the series.
What about Shakoor Rana?
Pakistani umpiring was biased to some extent too. Especially before the introduction of neutral umpires.
