I would guess that Buffalo Ford was renamed Nez Perce Ford after the indigenous Nez Perce people whose ancestral homeland included parts of Montana. So beautiful!

Native Montanan here, happy to have you here. I was living in Minnesota for over a decade and doing a lot of fishing out there, but not fly fishing. Moved home a year ago and used my fly rod for the first time in years. The videos on your channel are a great refresher of things I had learned about long ago, but there are many more great things I never knew about that I have learned now thanks to your videos.

@alalx jjnnz I agree with you that I should have explored the fly fishing spots in MN & WI when I lived there. I was really having fun fishing for bass, crappie, walleye, and pike. Wanted to hook a muskie but that never happened.

Incredibly jealous. After I retired, 7 yrs ago this past June, my wife and I took 3 or 4 weeks and drove from SE PA to Yellowstone. Stayed in the park for a week. Waters in the park were too high from spring runoff to fish, but the park is breathtaking. Spent some time at Ft Smith at a local lodge. Fished the Bighorn for a few days. Spectacular area. Can't wait to see the rest of your trip. Thanks for the great, interesting videos.

I have the same bug. Family Vacation started in 1977. Fished the same places. Slough and Lamar, Gallatin are amazing. Both my parents are now gone, but Every year less a few its back to YNP. What a place.

I could spend a whole lifetime driving and fishing Northwest Wyoming and Southern Montana. It never gets old. Yellowstone NP was the first place I ever saw flyfishermen in 1982 or so. Definitely, a developmental moment in my life. I hope you have a great trip.

So the adventure begins. I'm looking forward to the next one and always love the subtle humour Brian. I watched this will sorting my gear for an afternoon and evening on one of Wiltshire's chalk streams tomorrow(Wild browns and grayling only). I'm just glad I won't need to shout "hey bear" as I wade!

Living in Ennis MT gives us the opportunity to go to the park quite often it’s such a wonderful place . I remember fishing Buffalo Ford in 1991 and catching fish on almost every cast , it was one of those days . 2021 has been an awakening hot weather smoke and low rivers everywhere in MT . Looking over the Madison as I type this and it’s low . I’m sure you will have a great time with Kelly and his crew , who wouldn’t . Enjoy your stay in MT.
    Happy Trails

Thanks for this. We couldn't get out there this year (reservations in for next summer😀) and I can't explain the yearning as I watch your adventure. We've never fished in Yellowstone before and I told my wife I wasn't going out again without a fly outfit. We stopped in at your store a few weeks ago and Katie helped us pick out a bunch of stuff and a couple of the Redington field kits. At 62 I haven't fly fished in decades and I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying it! Thanks to you and your staff! Good luck.

Great stuff. According to Yellowstone Place Names - it was originally known as Nez Perce Ford or Chief Joesph's Crossing. Buffalo Ford was a name it picked up in 1946 after a couple of rangers found Bison frozen in the ice there. I'm a new angler who has learned a lot watching your videos. I was fishing that area just last weekend and didn't catch a thing either. Nice to know even the experts don't catch much there. I did watch a couple of anglers on the other side of the river catch a couple as well as a family of otters do pretty good. Hopefully the cutthroat will be back again in numbers some day. Thanks again for great content.

I live in Mt, and spend a lot of time in the park every summer, though I don't really fish in the park, I do outside the park around West Yellowstone. Some of your footage from Norris Geyser Basin, reminded me I once took a automotive laser thermometer, and some of the little geysers right next to the trail measured 178 degrees! Glad you get to visit, and thank you, I learned a LOT about fly fishing from your channel, and wish I could be your guide to repay some your wisdom.

I’ve never fished upper Slough Creek, but I have fished it below the campground. Very tricky currents and technical fishing. My favorite stream is Soda Butte about a quarter mile above its confluence with the Lamar. But last time I was there there was a flood and that section of the river was all braided and pretty much unfishable . That was about 10 years ago- perhaps it has re- channelized and fishes well again

Brian, I could not agree with more regarding the Bozeman Airport as being the best in the world and the gateway to the awesome YNP. You also were very close to the section on the Yellowstone River where I landed a 26" cutthroat in 2018, between Me Hardy Rapids and Nez Perze. On the topic of the invasive Lake Trout, there has been a project over the last few years as you know to eradicate them. A very good point regarding the lake trout, those fish being illegally introduced has to be called what it is, eco-terriorism as it has nearly exterminated those native cutts. I know a biologist from UVM who is a lake trout expert and has assisted with the project to eliminate those non-natives. Sorry for the lecture, but the topic of natives vs non-natives needs to be shared with folks who love fisheries like the Yellowstone and want to protect that place. I am a board member of Native Fish Coalition, Vermont chapter.

Hey Brian, greetings from Australia. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your special places in yellow stone with me. Even though I live over the other side of the world, I have been infatuated with the park ever since I saw the first images as I child. After many years of saving I manage 2 years ago to save enough money to travel over and see it with my own eyes. For some reason this video and you sharing your experiences with the place caused my to sob uncontrollable with happiness again as I did when I first stepped foot in the park. Weird i know but for some reason I just feel that way about the place. Always been saving ever since to return so who knows mabye one day by chance we could be unrolling loops to a returned cut throat population at buffalo Ford fingers crossed. All the best in your travels!
