    I got diagnosed with IBD more specifically ulcerative colitis in early 2021 and was wondering if it would still be possible to get a gastric sleeve with this condition? And if so would there be complications?

    • @DenverHealth
      @DenverHealth  2 года назад +1

      Ivy, thank you for the good question! According to our experts in the Denver Health Bariatric Surgery Center, Bariatric surgery is possible and can be successful in patients with ulcerative colitits. An individualized approach is best depending on any prior surgeries that you have had, as well as any medications that you are on that might effect wound healing, so please talk to your doctor or provider. So the short answer is yes the sleeve is possible!

    I had a mesh put in for diastasis recti. Would I still be able to have this surgery seeing as they go in through the stomach?

      Hi Sabrina. According to our doctors in the Denver Health Bariatric Surgery Center, yes, we can still do the surgery in the setting of prior mesh. Please be sure to talk to your doctor or provider for more information.

      Yes, Dr. Altamirano does it at the same time he is doing the sleeve. I think he only charges about $300 (2023) as he is doing the sleeve surgery, because it can cause reflux if not done.

      @tawogtrailers a patient should not drink water while eating because it fills the small area that needs to be filled with nutritious foods. It can also make food slide through too quickly, which means it's not digested well. The rule for bariatric patients is to drink, wait 30 minutes, eat their meal and then wait 30 minutes.

    After Having gastric sleeve surgery I’ve noticed my bowel movements are only maybe once a week, is this normal?

    • @DenverHealth
      @DenverHealth  3 года назад

      Thank you Sheila for your question! Our experts in the Denver Health Bariatric Surgery Center said that sometimes after surgery you can experience a change in the frequency of bowel movements. This is especially true with the Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass, though it can happen with the Gastric Sleeve surgery as well. If you had a bowel movement every day before surgery, it may be every 2-3 days after surgery. If you have bowel movements less frequently than daily, you may need to take medication like “MiraLAX” to keep from becoming constipated, but please consult with your medical provider before doing that. It’s most common for the month or so immediately after surgery because your provider will have you concentrating more on protein and less on fiber. This will usually resolve once you are able to eat more fiber. You can learn more about life after bariatric surgery on our website: www.denverhealth.org/services/surgery/bariatric/life-after-surgery
