    What I’ve learned from this video and trying it myself; correct me if I’m wrong-
    The BS is how you hit with a ranged weapon or gun in the shooting phase.
    The strength versus toughness wound roll comes into affect next.
    After removing the dice that failed to penetrate the armor of your opponent, Your opponent makes a saving throw with the remaining dice; and can save with their model’s SV.
    If your opponent fails the SV throw; the remaining dice is treated as damage (Wounds) equal to the attacking model’s damage (D) per dice.
    The wounds caused only goes to the models equal to the amount of dice remaining.
    It’s the same thing for making Attacks (A) in the fight phase only use WS instead of BS.
    God that’s a lot to remember when you’re a newcomer or getting back into it.

    With a blast weapon you actually count how many models there are in the unit if 6 or more you always get at least 3 hits and 11 or more you always get 6 hits.

    I appreciate this. I'm in a weird position. I have painted 3 armies in the past year and played no games since 4th edition! You can read and paint through the whole pandemic, but there is very little walkthrough of the very basics here on RUclips. It's very helpful. The basic mechanics haven't changed all that much since 4th, just a bit more complexity.

  • @wezab
    @wezab 4 года назад +2

    You made a mistake in the charge phase. Each charge must end within engagement range but not base to base. This is because you may have multiple combats on the go at the same time. Once all your charges are completed then you select a charging unit and that unit Piles In, which means all models in the unit move up to 3" to get base to base with the enemy. If models can not get into base contact with the enemy they must still move forward as close as possible. (If you think about it, this allows you to differentiate between new charges and ongoing fights. This is important because all charging units fight first).
    Models that can fight are models that are within Engagement range of an enemy unit it charged or models that are within 1/2" of a model in its own unit that is within 1/2" of the enemy unit.
    The significance of the engagement range is that it is up to an inch out from the defending unit. In the past the rule required base to base contact for a successful charge. Now a charge only requires closing into engagement range. The subtle difference is that while an enemy unit might be 8" away. The actual engagement range is only 7" away. However the rules do state that you can only charge if you are within 12" of an enemy unit. (Unless you are evil like me and use Banshee's who get a bonus 3" to their charge range and their rules allow them to charge from up to 15" away, not to mention charging after Advancing, que evil giggle).

    Hi...Recently retired and got into 40k at the end of 8th so now contending with changes to 9th. I have watched many instruction vids and battle report to learn the game and read the rules. The common theme I have and my struggle to learn is that you all know the game too well. You all have too much familiarity with the rules. I know this sounds backward but it seems to me that those traits make it very hard to "dumb it down" at a speed that allows the newbie to absorb and learn. I know you are all trying to pass on your love of the game and to encourage people to join in, but, as each sentence is uttered 5 questions appear in the brain. 40k is an involving and very enjoyable game but it's complexity is vast. GW do not help with rules spread over a battlefield of information and I often find myself searching for far too long to find a solution to a question. Quick note......wounds and damage, to my mind, are different entities and you mentioned that a weapons is damage 2 so he gets wounded twice. Is it not confusing as wounds travel yet damage does not ? Also, the abilities of models in a unit to fire is dependant on a models range and LOS not the units range and LOS ? Sorry, I've ranted on but thought feedback might be of value from someone still at the low end of the learning curve.

    • @davidwasilewski
      @davidwasilewski 4 года назад

      Roy Lewis it’s such a complex game, the reality is that the only way you will learn how to play is to be shown how to play, face to face by someone else who knows how to play already. After you’ve done this about 3 times, then you can go away and read the rules and they’ll make sense. In the meantime while Covid is still raging, I’d suggest you collect, build and paint an army and some terrain. There are plenty of army lists on the internet for your faction if you’re not sure what to buy.

    How does one charge with vehicle-borne infantry this edition? Would i have to leave an impulsor stationary as the models disembark to move,shoot, assault? Would they only be able to shoot/assault? Also, how do grav-chutes work? I used to use jumppack marines. it seems that all jumppack units can assault from deepstrike, but grav-chutes can't.

    • @phrikaphrak40k
      @phrikaphrak40k 4 года назад +2

      For most vehicles (leaving out the impulsor because I believe it has a special rule allowing units to disembark after the transport has moved) you must have the unit/s embarked proceed to disembark before their transport has moved. They can then act normally (meaning move, shoot, and charge as you see fit).
      Jump packs on space marines give the marines a special rule allowing them to deep strike 9" away guaranteed, at the end of your movement phase (besides on turn one). They grant their wearers the FLY and JUMPPACK keywords, allowing them to move over models and ignore terrain height, etc.
      Grav chutes are different in that they, like jetpacks, allow you to deep strike in the same way, but do not grant you the fly keyword, meaning you are going to be walking like any other base infantry.
      Hopefully that answered your questions fully.

    I cannot comprehend the math in Warhammer.. or modifiers. Which honestly is whats turning me off from wanting to play and just collect and paint.
    Example given: 4+ Sv. Weapons Ap -1. 4-1=3. How is it 5+. And then after says you "deduct" Hows that deducting? Youre adding.. 6+ sv for orks against a weapon with AP-1. Wouldnt that be a 5+ to save since 6-1 is 5?
    Ive watches several how to play videos and this is what always confuses the hell out of me. And no offense, noone has done a good job or even elaborates or explained this.
