Yeah I don't get it. They worked to purge marinemaster out of their lexicon, then randomly brought it back on an arbitrary watch. I thought a Marinemaster had some consistency to it, like all 300M watches and up, or something with a pattern. I don't get the random decisions.
This looks fantastic and I love the dimensions. However, pressed indices, pathetic bracelet and $2800.00 price tag make this an instant no. Seiko marketing must be based on "there's a sucker born every minute."
Looks-wise, it's not for me, but that's subjective. What isn't though is how poorly those end links integrate with the lugs. This bracelet was specifically made for the watch, why doesn't it fit? What were they thinking?
It's because of the 62mas connection of the lugs. So the only way to make it perfect is to make it square and they don't want to do that. so the round and square mixture never really works well. Rolex datejust endinks does not fit in perfect as well it's like a desired look love it or hate it. It has a tucked in look I showed on the most recent datejust review. And part of the Jubilee sticks up above the lug it's a really cool look.
Pros: Good thickness and size Lovely case finishing 6L37 Movement Aligns??? Cheaper than the 62MAS Cons: Bracelet doesn't match the case Clasp is trash Bezel is ugly Unsigned crown (WTF Seiko?)
Thanks for taking a look at this one, as I've been waiting to see a good hands on review. I think the dial is cool, and the hands are gorgeous. It's a shame Seiko still can't use applied markers at this price, but I'm also not going to be lookin at it on a macro level. It's not a deal breaker. It's frustrating that Seiko can't spend a few Yen on signing the crown on a Seiko LX model. I would love to get into a discussion with the person or people that made the decision to really only do that on their Presage models. I personally think anything above Seiko Essentials should have one. I think the bezel looks great, but I'd prefer if those edges were brushed. I'm sure it would help the grip a bit too, but it does look great and a bit more high end with the choice they made. I do actually appreciate the display case back, but it's really just Seiko bending to modern tastes. A smart brand doesn't ignore what customers want though, and that goes for the date as well. While I get the watch fan's desire for a no date model for ease of setting, I actually still appreciate the date. I think I use it more than I think, because when I wear one of my watches without a date, I inevitably get annoyed when I have to dig my phone out of my pocket to look up the date. My now aging eyes (you'll get there eventually haha) would probably struggle with a date that small though. I recall when Monta added a no date option to the Ocean King line. I asked them later about the sales break down, and I recall the no date was only about 30% of sales. I think the no date crowd is just a vocal minority. I really don't care for the way the end link contrasts so much with the case. I wish they would have gone another route in the design, but I also can't say I have a suggestion on how to fix it. I'd just send them back to the drawing board. The links themselves look fantastic though. Only 2 micro adjusts is a bit frustrating, but I guess they're trying to balance elegance with functionality in this level of watch. I think even just a 3rd slot would be a huge win. I have some watches with 5 micro adjust slots and I just don't use them all, plus it makes for a bulkier clasp. Seiko really just needs to engineer their own quick adjust clasp. Overall, I think this is a nice release though. I might end up putting it on a nice rubber strap if I pick one up. The fact that these are not limited (unlike the SJE093) is exciting news.
Thanks for sharing. But for the applied indices it's not a cost issue it's a philosophy issue. They think that a Pro Diver should have no fail points on the dial which is a shame. The seiko rep I spoke to told me they stamped the dial if I remember correctly nine times and it's a high failure rate and they throw out a lot of dials it probably cost them more to do the stamp dial. Remember they do applied indices on $70 Seiko 5s
Excellent review as usual! Like Rolex, Seiko seems to be moving aways from a tool look to a jewelry look. I prefer an aluminum bezel and a non-textured dial. I also do not care for the 15-30-45 bezel. I've always preferred the Seiko fully graduated 10-20-30-40-50 bezel. This is something different, so I'm sure these will sell - Seiko knows what they re doing.
Agreed. The display case back is also a move away from tool look. I hope for a solid caseback version in the future and maybe a sunray dial next year. Also, a lot of people are saying this is not a real marinemaster when the first ever Seiko Marinemaster was a Qaurtz 100m watch. Sooo as much as customer like to talk and me included, nobody knows more about SEIKO then SEIKO. So I agree they know what they are doing. My best guess is they will do MM teirs. 100m for quarts, 200m for 62mas, 300m for new mm300 and 1000m MM will stay the Tunas.
I actually like them a lot even tho I won’t buy it for myself. I simply see no reason to replace my spb143 but for a marinemaster 300 (big one). But it’s really good for them to have a modern skindiver in their premium segment which they where lacking.
It could be a crack in the polish as the markers aren't finished well. But the dust was basically zero on the under top side of the sapphire and dial. Hands were pretty perfect as well.
@@EscapementWatch ok, but doesn't look the same on other divers; with rectangular indices... I haven't seen in person tho so I'll take ur word for it... I notice rough edges in all videos so far
Yeah the top coat is cracking. Other pressed divers they use say a sunray dial which doesn't seem to crack. But this is just a guess from my examining. I could be way off.
I liked those big knucle-busting MarineMasters, either quatrz or self winding, but they SAID MareineMaster on them above the 6.!!!! Now available used only. Why does not Seiko bring those back? The black dial Seiko Turtle I have on my wrist cost $295 on a rubber strap in Dec. 2016. Had a new movememt put in June, 2023 for Total of $175. Runs great, looks great. Got to losing 10 min in 3 days. The 4R36 is still very available, so I had a new one put in. Cheap. He could not regulate the one that was acting up. Now the Turtle s around $350, so for half the price I had my mint Turtle get a new movement.
Seiko has lost it here. Give me the 033 quartz with the shiny case. ~$1100 used on eBay. Love that watch that says MarineMaster on it. Quartz. Absolute icon!!!!!!! They need to re-assign some people at Seiko for this mistake. Like he says, Rolex didn't drop "Submariner" from their dial. Can you imagine if you tried to convince Rolex to do that?? Bring back the Marinemaster and you'll sell plenty, Seiko.
Too expensive is what I call it. Seiko needs to show it has confidence in it's movements, you can't charge that money and give basic selitta guarantees and if there is dust on the dial at that price then send it back.
$2800 and hour markers poorly finished? No monocoque back? So-so lume? Not a good buy. Sounds like a watch that would be a good purchase in the $1500 price tier.
@@EscapementWatch Technically you’re correct but each of those two watches has something unique at least: quartz movement specifically manufactured for the quartz version and monocoque case for the automatic (plus world’s best lume AND world class hand and dial finishing)…
It looks beautiful. However, I won't be spending that kind of money on a watch only to have to purchase an aftermarket bracelet to get a proper fit. Wtf with only 2 microadjusts?! C'mon Seiko, enough is enough!
Excellent release overall!!! I would prefer a sunburst dial. The bezel edge reminds me of the Aquis. Nice looking bracelet, but the clasp is disappointing. Is the bezel insert ceramic or treated steel?
“Unsigned Crown Crisis” always amusing. How much time do you spend looking at the crown on your watch? Do strangers say to you “Nice dial - do you mind if I take a peek at the crown?”. Signed/unsigned never a dealbreaker for me however on this watch the crown at least points in right direction which is “thumbs down”. 👎🤠
Unfinished hour markers on a $2800 Seiko. Seiko testing the market: “Let’s see- cut corners here(dial) and there(crown), slap label on dial (Marine Master), and hope it flies.” Time to hold Seiko’s feet to the fire on this one. It may fly, but it’s a turkey. 🤡👎👎👎
I’ve really got a huge block on these watches. I adore Seiko divers and own five of them so this should be right up my alley but …. I think it’s a disaster for the money and a really incoherent design. The design of the hands is the bright spot for me. I appreciate all your videos FT, and I know you give your honest opinions rather than try and sell every watch to us, but this a rare instance where I respectfully disagree with your take.
No problem man we all have different tastes. This one does have its negatives which I made sure to highlight, but despite its negatives it quickly became my favorite Seiko which is really difficult. I'm a big fan of the 62 mas but this just takes it to a completely new level just in my opinion. the overall watch community seems to hate the watch I would say 70% hate it from the reaction I've been getting. Which actually benefits me because I can probably get a bigger discount at kavar Jewelers once the hype dies down 😂 but might wait for a sunray dialed version as the dial is a bit too omega for me and if I really dislike any connection with omega.
I love your channel but i dislike the fact that you have to bring down Omega or Rolex just so you can bring up Seiko. Each are different and are in different leagues of their own. Waves on the seamaster are beautiful and the process is way more expensive to make than what seiko is using.
Looks great. Nico be like don't ever pay more than £1000 for a Seiko even though they've been making watches longer than most of the Swiss big name brands, like Seiko doesn't know how to make watches after 100 plus years! Let's face it, what you gonna dive with a £3000 made to be used diver by Seiko or a 10k+ second hand Rolex which has just become a posers fashion item and gets taken off just to go in a swimming pool 😂 I'll take the Seiko or a Tag Heuer at 3k or an Omega at 5k any day.
Nico isn't that that guy who works for a company that sells used watches??? I think he's just a used Rolex salesman and he's making profit for his company. I could be wrong but that's my impression anyways. And I heard him call G-Shock God like or something and it sounded so sarcastic like when you call your friend really good at a sport and he's the opposite. Anyways don't listen to a guy who says don't buy a Seiko over a thousand dollars he obviously is a pandering snob who doesn't know anything about watches.
@@EscapementWatch he owns Pride and Pinion, he actually loves Casio and Seiko, just doesn't think you should pay more than 1k for one, he's actually really funny and one of the biggest luxury watch sellers in the world. He very opinionated and doesn't hold back what he thinks, he's Irish what more can I say, they speak their mind 🤣 He's actually very knowledgeable more so than most people, especially the history of Swiss watches.
I admit I've only seen 1 or maybe 2? vids of his and maybe only 30s-1min on each. But his uninformed remark about high-end Seiko watches immediately leads me to dismiss him. Just my personal opinion. But good on him for being a great business man and crushing.
@@EscapementWatch he's been into watches since he was a kid, it's why he knows so much about everything. He was hating on GS too up until this year, now they've improved quality and distanced themselves from their parent company, most of his comments are pretty valid, why would you pay 3-5k for a Seiko when it's in King Seiko and low end GS price range, Seiko is damaging sales of both brands but, add to that the second hand prices and how much value lost it makes sense. But they are Japanese and do weird stuff, just like removing names from their watches like your video says.
it will always look like that unless they do squared endlinks, which they do not want to do. Because the 62MAS trademark trait has that flat connection between the links.
I've been a life-long fan and collector of Seiko divers. I still own many of them. My current daily driver for the last 3yrs is the Prospex Kinetic GMT (SUN019P), AKA 'Kinetic Tuna', and I absolutely love it. However, it continues to blow my mind how often Seiko drops the ball. Even at this price point they don't equip their SS bracelets with proper clasps and ratcheting dive extensions. You have to get the MM 300 for that I believe. Meanwhile Citizen's Promaster Aqualand series do, at a much lower price and are some of the best ratcheting clasps in the industry. For a real diver like myself who lives on an island and dives most of the year this mistake is not easy to forgive. That's why when I'm in the water I wear my titanium Citizen Promaster Aquamount as my backup and my Seiko stays at home.

@@EscapementWatch Oh, that's really interesting. Thanks for that info! I never thought of it like that.
Sorry, the date at 4:30 is a complete turn off to me.
This watch would look so much better with more simple dials
Always enjoy your reviews! Way to go seiko for bringing it back, loveee the new look!
Glad you like them!
Great video! Can you tell me what watch (blue dial) you wear in the start of the video? Cheers.
Grand Seiko Kishun Sbgw283
I actually like them a lot even tho I won’t buy it for myself. I simply see no reason to replace my spb143 but for a marinemaster 300 (big one).
But it’s really good for them to have a modern skindiver in their premium segment which they where lacking.
0:47 Wow which watch is that?
Spring Driver LX line. SNR045 super rare and IMPOSSIBLE TO GET. I did a video on it ruclips.net/video/yKPJeX3mFOA/видео.html
Thank you for the nice video and nice telling.
Is there a dust particle on the 8 marker or am I wronning ?
It could be a crack in the polish as the markers aren't finished well. But the dust was basically zero on the under top side of the sapphire and dial. Hands were pretty perfect as well.
Referring to the bracelet links... You referred to them as "eclipse-shaped". I think you meant to say "ellipse-shaped"
yes correct
Hey, is the bazel ceramic or not? 😢
steel coated in black titanium carbon
@@EscapementWatch so, is it scratch resistant?
it can still scratch but the coating is very hard
@@EscapementWatch and when it get scratches can it be polished?
@@EscapementWatch hey, I saw at Seiko boutique website that the bezel have a sapphire cap
I love this watch 😍nice review
Thanks for watching!
That pressed divers extension is a crime against Horology
Not a fan of the overly-aggressive bezel edge. The rest of it is pretty fantastic.
This new movement has me excited for the future of Seiko divers
2.900us$ ?? ?? ??? ??? ?/
Seriously ? ? ? ?
Is it made out of gold?
Why are them indices so rough on the edges of such a beautiful watch???
It looks to be because of that layered paint job on the top. Because the indices are pressed through
@@EscapementWatch ok, but doesn't look the same on other divers; with rectangular indices... I haven't seen in person tho so I'll take ur word for it... I notice rough edges in all videos so far
Yeah the top coat is cracking. Other pressed divers they use say a sunray dial which doesn't seem to crack. But this is just a guess from my examining. I could be way off.
Nice watch
Sure is
I think the face striations look like an Aqua Terra , not the Seamaster.
isn't the official name of that watch "Seamaster Aqua Tera" tho?
Not a wave pattern though; more “decking” apparently. That’s why I thought you were referring to the diver
A porthole date window and it's at 430? That's a huge 1,2 punch from Seiko and not in a good way.
I knew it!
They ABSOLUTELY bit off the Ginault silent service.
I❤❤it
I liked those big knucle-busting MarineMasters, either quatrz or self winding, but they SAID MareineMaster on them above the 6.!!!!
$20 clasp on a $3,000 watch 😂
It's a $800 watch, they are just selling it for $3000. But your comment is still valid for a $800 watch.
@@Luke-w5qrolecs is also a £ 500 watch but they sell for over £ 10k
At that price i expect a quality clasp and better finishing. Those indicies are rough!
I love my 62mas mocachino on the brown rubber strap.
Too expensive is what I call it. Seiko needs to show it has confidence in it's movements, you can't charge that money and give basic selitta guarantees and if there is dust on the dial at that price then send it back.
No signed crown I no buy!
Does anyone know if this bracelet is compatible with spb143?
nkuwan I love you so much and watching your videos makes my day brighter
When will Seiko realize they don’t need to put the Prospex X on the dial…
Decades probably once they rebrand ProSpeX
$2800 and hour markers poorly finished? No monocoque back? So-so lume? Not a good buy. Sounds like a watch that would be a good purchase in the $1500 price tier.
p.s. Slapping “Marine Master” on dial sullies the TRUE Marinemaster- kinda like the all electric “Mustang.”
The first ever Seiko marinemaster was a 100 m quartz. So even the marinemaster 300 Sully's the name of marinemaster and isn't a true Marine master.
Yeah doesn’t look like a marinemaster imho
@@EscapementWatch Technically you’re correct but each of those two watches has something unique at least: quartz movement specifically manufactured for the quartz version and monocoque case for the automatic (plus world’s best lume AND world class hand and dial finishing)…
It looks beautiful. However, I won't be spending that kind of money on a watch only to have to purchase an aftermarket bracelet to get a proper fit. Wtf with only 2 microadjusts?! C'mon Seiko, enough is enough!
Pity they didn’t ditch the pro-spec logo from the dial and have it etched into the crown instead.
hopeing for that to be a trend in 24
Excellent release overall!!! I would prefer a sunburst dial. The bezel edge reminds me of the Aquis. Nice looking bracelet, but the clasp is disappointing. Is the bezel insert ceramic or treated steel?
Steel. You can see the base steel on the sje097 model. I had a text pop up while I was turning the bezel but I did not say it out loud.
why do crowns need to be signed?
I'm not sure but people always complain when they're not
“Unsigned Crown Crisis” always amusing. How much time do you spend looking at the crown on your watch? Do strangers say to you “Nice dial - do you mind if I take a peek at the crown?”. Signed/unsigned never a dealbreaker for me however on this watch the crown at least points in right direction which
is “thumbs down”.
Because it means unfinished
@@daeyeoplim Incorrect. Surface IS finished. A flat finish.
When did signed crowns become essential!? I’m super confused when it’s claimed to be an obvious negative
Is it a Marinemaster or a Prospex? For the sake of dial real estate it should not be both!
Thanks for the excellent review. I love so many Seiko models and to my relief, this is not one of them. The overall look doesn't win my heart.
My Seiko Sports 5 I bought it on March 2024 is really fine but run faster 2 to 5 minutes per day.
I don’t care they changed the original case it looks beautiful
That’s a good size.. nice review.
put them on a Divecore HP strap and ouuuu
So its still a 40mm watch?!
technically. Wears smaller for sure tho.
Thanks seiko i hate the date window still 🤡
What material is the bezel made of?
Steel coated in Titanium Carbon for the 099 and 101. The 097 is just steel.
It still carries the Prospex logo. Why Seiko, why!?
He very opinionated and doesn't hold back what he thinks, he's Irish what more can I say, they speak their mind 🤣
He's actually very knowledgeable more so than most people, especially the history of Swiss watches.
The bracelet endlink is just lazy. It looks like it was designed for another watch, taken and truncated, then shoehorned between the lugs.
it will always look like that unless they do squared endlinks, which they do not want to do. Because the 62MAS trademark trait has that flat connection between the links.
But.... it's a SEIKO! :)))
The X on the dial is a shame.
Yeah would love a non-X and put Marinemaster where the X is now. But that probably wont happen
@@EscapementWatch - yup, yet another reason I’m glad to have my SLA017- 62mas…no X, polished rehaut, sunray grey dial, proper hands, gorgeous crystal, signed crown, drilled lugs, smooth, accurate 28.8k movement, 40mm size…very happy owner.
