- The plaintiff says he rented garage space to the defendant, who still owes him money. He’s been dodging the plaintiff for months, so he’s being sued for the outstanding amount. The defendant says the plaintiff is a strange guy who’s making stuff up. He denies owing a penny.
Case: 31-266

I've learned so much from Judge Milian. I'm working with a vendor right now - using a *"verbal"* contract. I immediately sent her a text recapping the conversation, terms of the agreement, and agreed upon amount. She responded with a confirmation. I did exactly what Judge Milian beats into our heads.
That's so cool that she responded to you. I attended only 2 years of law school, but have learned so much more from JM. If I have contractors work on my house or mechanics on my car all I ever think about is, 'What would JM say about this deal? How do I be fair to others yet, still, cover my ass if they're not fair with me.'🥰🥰🥰
@@racheldeborde8237don’t forget the coffee in the am so they’ll come yo your house first like she says too 😅 🙏 😊
I like how Judge Milian explains the correct way to do things, not just that they are wrong, very helpful and respectful

Hesitation could mean you're lying. These guys couldn't give a "yes or no" answers.
"I have a witness but they're not present." Lol. That doesn't make any sense.
He said he had proof AND a witness and has neither 🤦🏽♀️😂😂
Bwahaha that is literally the best Oxymoron I have heard in a long time.
Judge Judy quote--- " if it does not make sense, it is not true ".
$800 a month...🤯
Thank you. I thought I was alone thinking that seems absurd 🙄
I know, right? Plaintiff was mad the kid left because he was probably covering the guy's whole rent for the entire space. Kid was smart to leave.
Right?!?!?
Doug is so snarky and I'm here for it every time ... lol
Naw…. He be annoying sometimes.
That would b the LAST thing I would want ppl to think I was. Snarky...... No thanks.
“He’s the one who needs to grow up, but that’s between me and you”. Methinks there may have been a little more going on between these two than they’re willing to talk about on camera. I can’t see him letting some clearly irresponsible college dude use his space without a lease, with no promise to pay, and with all this tomfoolery, unless maybe there were some other exchanges. I’m always leery when I see an older person doing business with a much younger person, and letting so many things go though they’d have no business reason to do so and have the experience not to do it.
I didn't see any sign that something else was going on.
Ahh young love
Yeah, no... that's totally grasping.
Smells a lil methy
Ummmm, it’s usually the one accusing that has been guilty of the behavior.
😆 " There's No Miscellaneous In My World "
Four minutes into the case and the defendant already has a super hostile tone… am I the only one detecting that? 🤔
I thought the same thing. He seemed like a hot head.
I caught on within a minute lol
Defensive
You can't tell a landlord that you, "might stay or you might leave."
very sus 🤣💀
How could you have a rental agreement with no paperwork or receipts?
Because he was taking advantage of a young dude and knew he could do so easier without having anything in writing. $800 for a garage space is ridiculous. That's what some people pay for an apartment.
Welcome to the People's Court where all sorts of things just like that take place. 🤣
Sexual favors
DOUG ALWAYS COMING IN WITH HIS SAVAGE WITTYNESS IN THE END! I CANT EVERY GET OVER THAT HAHA 🤣
800 a month!!! Are they crazy!!!! Just for storage....
Plaintiff is a mechanic with a full workshop/garage and all kinds of tools but he tries to come across like he needs to hire a journeyman electrician to wire a simple outlet and a master carpenter to patch a hole in a plywood floor. Riiiight. Glad the judge didn't buy that line of crap either. He was trying to nickel and dime the kid to death to “teach him a lesson”? What?? Just because he's older doesn't make him any wiser. Sounds like the kid was the wise one to get out of there.
I Agree.
Mr. DON'T rent out your garage!!!!
"but that's between me and you."
And the rest of daytime america. We won't tell.
The After the Verdict question was a good one!!!
These two sides are a joke. What right or ability does the plaintiff have to teach anyone else any lesson? He rents space and equipment to people without paperwork or contract. Nice doesn't mean not doing thing by the book. You can have paperwork and be nice. The defendant is like all the letigents who say, "they never gave me a receipt!" Why is it only their responsibility to give you one? How do people do business like this? What world do they live in?
Both of these litigans are beyond annoying and so disrespectful to the judge constantly interrupting and talking over her
They both seem like they're on the spectrum.
Are all these people that come through this court always so stupid that they can not answer a direct question?
I appreciate the question at the end, because I’ve always wondered this.
Dude (defendant)...your not the victim here.
Do these types of litigants really think they are going to equivocate their way through a case? Bad enough no paperwork, one has a witness that isn't there, and cannot give straight answers on top of it all. No wonder JM was losing her patience with them!
We DON'T! live in a "handshake" World anymore, people are NOT! honest!
landlord was mostly wrong. use a contract it's very simple. kid acted like a kid. judge verdict was very fair this time.
I don't think the landlord was as wrong as the 'kid', he didn't have a contract and that was stupid but it doesn't negate that the 'kid' didn't give notice, pay for misc items (LOL), or pay rent. Also the 'kid' is a grown ass man, I don't know why we extend childhood for some select people.
"But that's-a between me and you." - Umm no sir, it isn't. You literally just said it to everyone watching this. 🤣🤣
I have a witness but there not present!! 😩😩😩🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️OK SO YOU DON'T HAVE A WITNESS!!!
You don’t have to be an electrician to install an outlet. 😂 Simple stuff.
i believe the defendant paid a deposit simply because nobody in this day and age rents without requiring a deposit but i also believe the defendant owed for repairs and items he used without paying for them . but again , the landord got greedy and wanted payment for the damages AND a months rent .
Bottom line is type up a contract and get receipts....
Why he dont have insurance? Since hes renting a space out.
Go Judge Milian!
the moral of the story 'get it in writing'
no one had proof of anything beyond the 'creeper'
Why do the people who pay cash always act so indignant when they can’t prove it, almost every person has a phone with a camera, video it 🤦🏽♀️
I found both of these people a bit shady.
I agree with the judge about this entire case, EXCEPT about the security deposit.
Plaintiff is absolutely 100% lying about the security deposit; go back & listen to his very 1st response when answering the judge on that subject. Perjury! Judge should have given the defendant the security deposit credit, which would zero out both claims.
800 a month for using a building and storage? WTF
"That's a funny story" is usually followed by a lie.
Ahh young love gone wrong
JM is pissy on this one 🤭
Judge did really not have time this episode she sounds irritated and done
They were being invasive and not answering her questions, and they had absolutely zero paperwork, but expected her to sort everything out.
Is English their first language 🤓
obvi plaintiff has crush on defendant. Own it and let it go
That's ridiculous. There is absolutely no indication of any kind of romantic interest on either part. Why is it going to be like that? Why can't two people just be involved in a business arrangement? What is it with sex that it has to be a part of some people's persistent everyday thoughts? Are you that horny?
I have a crush on the defendant.
One thing I noticed from watching this, if a litigants eyes will not look straight ahead, they lying. Thats how I know when someone is face to face with me, but its works here too. Everytime someone lies, their eyes go down.
No. What people do with their eyes depends on generation, race, culture-a whole number of things. There is no “aha!” to whether someone is being deceptive. That’s why there are actual experts in the field. Sit down.
@@ct6410 LMAO. Experts even say the aversion of looking you dead in the face is a sign of lying. Try again.
@@ct6410 Someone who is lying might stare or look away at a crucial moment, says Glass - a possible sign they're moving their eyes around as they try to think about what to say next. The research conducted by Geiselman at UCLA corroborated this, finding that people sometimes look away briefly when lying.
That can be one signal of deception. But if the person always does that, then it's not going to be an indication of deception. Regardless of that, remember, these people are on video chat. They're not going to be staring in their camera, they're going to be staring at their computer screen, looking at the judge and the other litigant.
@@ct6410 great answer, so much more is involved, and everybody is have so many niche and varying traits.

Yes! One more day to a 3 day weekend!!
I think the plaintiff is a bold-faced liar when it comes to whether or not the defendant gave a deposit, why did he hesitate the way he did and kind of dance around the question? If he knew for a fact that the defendant gave absolutely nothing for a deposit he would have just directly answered the question, I'm not saying the defendant is blameless but I think the plaintiff knows if he answered honestly he would have walked away with nothing or almost nothing, he knew that there was no proof so he blatantly lied to the judge and then tries to school somebody on being a man gave me a break.
Is it just me or $800 a month for storage is alot of money??
Just WHAT was this wise plaintiff trying to teach the defendant ? I saw Nothing wise about him , in fact I don't Trust either 1.
Both these guys are sketchy and annoying.
Sounds fishy.
Love the Judge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would NOT pay that turd anything........regardless of the verdict
This court doesn't deal in ect ect and finishes ruling with you own him this much for this and ect ect what lol 😆
that guy is a LIAR, anyone trying to make money off renting a space being rented to him is already shady. Why does he need a notice? I'm taking my stuff and leaving.
Both these guys r lying...and honestly this whole situation is sooo fishy....i don't know..
Was the older guy (the plaintiff) trying to do him a favour and expecting another sort of favour in return, is that why he got nasty when the younger guy said he might be leaving, there is something off about the plaintiff and I believe he is lying about certain aspects...
It's clear that the plaintiff was miffed that the defendant didn't return his romantic interest and is now retaliating by suing him.
Did I miss something? Based on what?
@@The_Real_HeatherMarie : OK Im Like Yes I don't remember hearing no love interests in this case either hmmm
@@latarareed7321 Some people see those kinds of things in all things. Most people don't.
@@mexicanspec I feel like the number of people who got the same feeling gives it some credit.
That's crazy. If the plaintiff had a romantic interest in the defendant, he wouldn't be making the defendant replace bottles of water and gasoline. He would be giving him free stuff. And he certainly wouldn't be charging him $800 a month for a garage. My goodness, you can get a two-bedroom apartment for that much.
Honestly what this case actually appears is that the old dude had a crush on the young one and got upset because he was leaving. Let's be honest, who decides from nothing to not use a written contract, to allow this person use your stuff and also find ok to chase the guy to pay the monthly rent ?! All of this only because he was trying to be nice and then after because was trying to teach a younger man ? Common that's kinda obvious.
Hopefully you can do things orally and with a 🤝 handshake 🤝

The defendant lost the case. He owes the plaintiff $800 for his last month's rent.
@@JeremiahLOsborne I think he meant in real dollars, since the show pays the verdicts.
OMG 🤦🏾♀️ Do you have evidence of a security deposit? Yes, and I have a witness.
