A very underrated song. Billy Joel has always been a phenomenal talent! 🎶🎶🎶🎶
No, it isn't 'underrated'. Do you understand the meaning of the word?
omg this is so true it also annoys me when people us overrated as bad like overrated does not equal bad@josephbennett4236
My current favorite Billy Joel song.🎉
His playing and singing is amazing! Also his composition and arrangement is outstanding!
The original drummer of this song was Elvis' drummer Ron Tutt. But, a lot of people have been more familiar with Liberty DeVitto, and now, Chuck Burgi, being there for Billy.
Rhys Clark@@delbertgrady413
I don't enjoy Chuck's drumming, too stiff, lacks passion. Liberty all the way!
@@carlosconesa Liberty tends to be very aggressive with his drumming.
Phenomenal performance... he's so young here. Married the "Uptown Girl."
Billy is still doing shows! Keep on doing what you love! ❤
Happy Holidays! 🎄🎁
Happy Tuesday... thank you for sharing! 💖
These were great albums of his laundry list of amazing albums. The audience is literally mesmerized.
Had his .45 record “Piano Man” as a young teen; Billy Joel’s a fantastic soothsayer who weaves stories in our mind. Great performance here 🎹🌟
As a teen saw these amazing Maestros a few years later in Memphis,TN at the Mid-South Coliseum, where thankfully they did this one. Until that point I had never seen anyone hit as hard and in control as Liberty DeVitto - changed my playing style entirely. One reason I got a ticket for one of the first five rows was to watch and learn from Liberty.
And liberty got alot of his style from this guy who he replaced. Rhys Clark
One of the very best Billy Joel songs ever.
I had a friend who was a big Billy Joel fan. We were in high school when “Glass Houses” (GH) came out. But that friend played that cassette tape in his car - I don’t think CD players were available for a few more years - until he wore it out. I’m a minor Billy Joel fan - get it? - but GH is easily my favorite album of his.
We watched Midnight Special every week when I was a kid. It inspired me to have a long career in music and I am very grateful. We need more shows like this where the artists actually writes the music, plays the instruments and shows kids there is more out there. Sadly I think learning is to difficult for kids in this "right now" society.
Thank you for the wonderful compliment, Burt Sugarman
Our generation was the generation of the "singer-songwriter" ... Until Lennon-McCartney came along, almost wrote their own material ... I also think you understand the level of creativity in today's kids - the difference is that they now all have the toys we wanted when we were kids, because we had them made ... Finally, "learning is to difficult" doesn't make your case very well ...
Rare Band ... Transitional period between the Rhys Clark/Larry Russell era to the Liberty DiVitto era... Doug Stegmeyer's first tour!!! Rhys leaves and Doug brings in his friends from the band Topper to fill out billy's band .. .thats the classic lineup of Javors, DiVitto, Brown, Stegmeyer, and Cannata... the best motherfuckers ever.
Superb band. Now, that's live music. I'm not familiar with his band musicians. Was wondering who the guitar player is. Absolutely on it.

No aregument here, your honor!
Excellent 👍
Billy Joel a legend👍👍👍
So ypung. I remember him like this❤
Very interesting, Young Joel with a different band and as always an incredible song.
If modern music is so superior, how come there’s no modern version of Midnight Special? Answer: Modern music is cooked up in a lab and served to us lukewarm.
Pre packaged
Great!
Great version of the song. Perfect tempo. His piano playing is impeccable. The band is tight.
I guess that Billy’s dad Howard - born Helmut in Germany - moved to the US and was a classically-trained pianist. But then Howard later moved back to Europe and lived in Vienna as he didn’t like America. In 1957 Howard considered Americans “uneducated and materialistic.” I wonder what Howard would think of us now. I shudder to think about it.
Howard might be sounding the warning bell.
He was and is 1000% CORRECT✅💯
Before liberty
An awesome artist and an amazing song 🎉🎉, gracing the stage of the Midnight Special 🎉🎉
Oyster Bay ❤ My home town
Incredible performance, as always, and incredible song!
Billy Joel all the way back from the midnight special. Up to Billy Joel doing twin concerts with elton john in stadium's across the united states. REMEMBER. ?
Billy Joel was phenomenal then and still is today
. Billy joel and elton john are my two favorite artist of all time
It's too bad he didn't do this show more. I think this is the only time he did it.
Oh, man! 😢
Because this show soon started having all the performances be playback, and I’m sure Billy Joel would never ever do that
One of the greatest storytellers in rock! I got to see him in 2016. He was still amazing then! I love him! 🤩👏👏💜
He sounds the same in his old age.
@@gregoryduncan3067 He sure does!😍
He is the best!
I saw him in 79 only because my gf at the time wanted to see him. Big Shot was on the radio every hour it seemed. I still have the concert program. The concert was over three hours long and it was outstanding. Actually happy my gf talked me into it.
ha ha ha Stephanie you love everybody! 👍🤣😘
Bach , Beethoven ,Billy …✔️
Yes!!! Billy!!
I was introduced to Billy Joel by my high school buddy, who had Glass Houses on 8-track. (I’m that old). But I have been a fan since then, and I especially love the Songs in the Attic album with his live versions of songs that he thought sounded better in specific live settings. You’ve got to check it out if you’ve never heard it because he’s absolutely correct. The live versions of the songs on SITA are better than the album versions!
I met Billy as well! We were on vacation in Newport RI, and he was there with a few friends, his saxophone player, Richie Cannata. We met him coming back from one of the bars and he was telling us he was working on his collaboration project, with Richard Joo that turned out to be the Fantasies and Delusions CD, such amazing talent!
Breathless!!! Thank you TMS!
Great!:Thanks
Just incredible.
Oyster Bay, Centre Island, Bayville-and on out to Huntington and Northport. The rocky North Shore beaches. This album came out when I was in grammar school in Nassau County. How did I get so old? The seems better now than it did then.. Maybe being older gives a new appreciation, perspective, understanding.
Man I hope we get to see the performance of “Travelin’ Prayer” soon, Billy’s band really shines on that track especially the rhythm section, Doug Stegmeyer is an underrated bass player
he could sing, he could write, but boy, can he play piano!
Insanely good.
Damn these boys are tight, liberty snaps and pops like Stewart Copeland.
Liberty transforms this song
Everything he plays, really.
billy Joel!
👍👍
👏👏👏👏👏❤🙌♥️
Richie and Doug are there, was surprised no liberty there
IMO Billy doesn’t get enough credit as a pianist, nor do his pre-Stranger albums. This version is so different, there’s no harmonica at the beginning like on the album and the piano sounds like it came out of an old west saloon
Sing me a song! Your the piano man?
*You're
is that Liberty on drums?
No, that's Rhys Clark.
Rhys Clark
Looks nothing like Liberty...it is definitely Rhys Clark
Who's the drummer here?
I thought Billy The Kid was shot🤔
Did you bother to listen to the lyrics of the song once? It never mentions him being hanged to death does it? Billy the Kid WAS captured, and the Judge DID order him to be hanged to death. He killed 2 deputies and escaped later that night. Pat Garrett caught up with him and shot him down afterwards.
Great ballad. But Billy McCarty did not start out in Wheeling, West VA. Not sure why Billy Joel has him starting his life or life of crime from there.
I don’t think this is actually played live sadly
It is live. That's how good Billy and the boys are....
Well you got that wrong - it is
@@fretfix1 I’m pretty sure they are just miming
@@fretfix1I think @thekivster is being sarcastic.
That was the whole premise of the show and why it stood out for being such a phenomenal music show. Every performer played live. You had to perform live. You weren't allowed to lip sync or mime your songs.
